Reporting neighbours for reserving a parking space with cones

Fully happy to admit I Abu, obviously too much time on my hands.

We live on street where it's all street parking for terraced housing. The couple opposite everyday the lady leaves the house, man runs out with parking cones to save the parking space. They have upgraded to parking cones it used to be the wheelie bins.

Aibu to report them to the council? Parking ban be limited but you can usually park a few houses up or down and most times outside your own home.

It just really riles me and to be honest it's dangerous.

Dh thinks I'm being a busy body

Report them to the highways agency for stealing traffic cones.

lottiegarbanzo · 16/02/2021 11:48

I agree that 'reporting' is the (semi)adult version of 'I'm telling on youuuuu!'.

But equally love the idea of every Council having an 'anti-social cone-use hotline', with an emergency dispatch team of cone-collection agents. (How much extra would you be willing to pay on your council tax to secure that service? After all the higher priorities in social care and education had been taken care of, of course).

ChronicallyCurious · 16/02/2021 11:48

Yep another one for just move the cones and park there

skodadoda · 16/02/2021 11:50
@ChonkyChook he sprints! There is a real danger some days of a flash from under his dressing gown the speed he moves Smile
Diagram please - of the parking situation of course 😏

TheRebelle · 16/02/2021 11:52

I’d just see this as one of those funny things neighbours do and chuckle at them to be honest, they’re not harming anyone and it obviously makes them happy.

Talking of weird things neighbours do my mum used to live next door to someone who washed his car after every use, with various special cloths for different parts of the car, it would take him hours, it was only a Ford Fiesta or similar, I would’ve understood more if it was a Bentley or something!

Penners99 · 16/02/2021 11:52

Screw the cones to the road with concrete screws? Fun to watch them try to park.

Sorry, being evil comes naturally to me.

VicarofDibley · 16/02/2021 11:55

My street is onstreet parking. They chose to live there so like everyone else they accept it's a public road .I would move the cones they can't save a space .

dannydyerismydad · 16/02/2021 11:56

We have a neighbour who does this. It's one in a long line of entitled things she does.

andyoldlabour · 16/02/2021 12:00

Public road - move the cones and park there.

SuperbGorgonzola · 16/02/2021 12:02

If it was not affecting me, i wouldn't do anything but if I needed to park, and that was the only place available, I would move the cones and park there.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 16/02/2021 12:03

@ScarfaceCwaw

Yes, seriously, what do you expect the council to do? Stop collecting their rubbish? Put them on a People We Don't Like list and throw darts at their names? Take the cones away unless they promise to play nice in future?

They have better things to do. And you should.

This made me laugh... Grin

Just park there, OP. IF you need to. The cones are de-facto litter, put them in the nearest plastic recycling skip.

TrufflyPig · 16/02/2021 12:06

My Dad's neighbour does this (as well as leaving aggressive notes on anyone's car who dares park outside his house).

Subsequently my Dad now has a shed full of cones 😂.

Ideasplease322 · 16/02/2021 12:08

This reminds me of a friend of a friend who bought a terrace house and proudly boasted it had a reserved parking space on the street.

The previous owner was disabled and so it had a disabled spot painted by he council outside. She honestly thought it belonged to her, and was outraged when she was ticketed for parking in it😂😂😂

StanfordPines · 16/02/2021 12:08

You clearly have so many better things to do that you’ve bothered to post twice on this thread.
MiddlesexGirl · 16/02/2021 12:10

I'd move the cones and I wouldn't be too careful where they ended up.

Grin does the neighbour know it is him stealing the cones?
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/02/2021 12:11

Super glue the cones to her spot so she can't park in the space st the end of the day.

ethelredonagoodday · 16/02/2021 12:11

I'd not report them, as it will get you precisely nowhere, but I would totally disregard the cones. It's public highway, and they have no right to do that.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 16/02/2021 12:12

But at least ScarfaceCwaw is amusing.

Are you the number-of-posts monitor, StanfordPines? There's a job waiting for you on a Cones-Hotline. Somewhere.

StanfordPines · 16/02/2021 12:13

It rather depends. If there isn’t too much of a problem parking then I would ignore it but if I was coming home finding that I couldn’t park and the only space had his cones in it then that would be very annoying.

TrufflyPig · 16/02/2021 12:14

does the neighbour know it is him stealing the cones?

He knows but he can't prove it 😂 drives him nuts.

PolytheneHam · 16/02/2021 12:15

We get people trying to do the same on our street, either with cones or wheelie bins. I just move them.

StanfordPines · 16/02/2021 12:15

It’s the irony of someone saying that someone else needs to find something to do with their time while they are themselves spending time on something pointless.
GabsAlot · 16/02/2021 12:16

does anyone move them op

you can report online i think but dout they will do much

nancywhitehead · 16/02/2021 12:16

I can see why it annoys you but it's much too minor to report to the council. Especially if it's not even causing you or anyone else any inconvenience. It sounds like parking is easy on your road.

What you could do is just go and talk to them and explain that they aren't actually allowed to reserve part of the public road for their own use.

They'll probably ignore you but if you're not bothered enough by it to be willing to do that then it's definitely not reasonable to go to the council.
