You cannot change the laws with a post like that saying that parents can't support their kids, whatever age. I did with mine

The whole fiasco is showing all the ridiculousness of our class system for what it is. People who aren’t very bright being given massive wealth and privilege so they can sit in Palaces and pretend they’re useful. We paid for Harry’s wedding. How have they repaid the goodwill and cost of it to the British people?

I agree with some of this.

Is the latest thing that they have to repay the wedding? I need to know

Covidcorvid · 19/02/2021 19:56

It said on the news some courtesy titles will be stripped.....does that include duke and duchess of Sussex or do they keep those?

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 19/02/2021 19:56

@radiohaha

On the whole, in my view - this is what it boils down to:

The British welcomed MM with open arms and felt she was a breath of fresh air and were delighted to see PH so happy.

Whilst there was and is some disgusting racism towards her,
overall I don't think this is a factor in the antogonism towards them now.

Other newcomers intothe RF have been treated just as badly in the past by the press including Diana, Sarah, Camilla and Kate.

People have turned against H&M because they are increasingly seen as privileged, lecturing, preaching hypocrites who come out with comical psychobabble which we don't relate to.

It's really, really sad that this is how things have turned out Sad

Spot on. I really liked her at first. I liked them both.

It was the hypocritical lecturing and then the ‘we have such terrible lives’ whilst standing in a 3rd world country that really put me off them.

It would be nice if they acknowledged how very fortunate they are.

I think you’re arguing with a metaphor you seem to have completely misunderstood

Who is?
I understand it perfectly

(I am answering you because I posted it)

I imagine she's taking about me @Roussette!

Then there are two complete clowns signing $$$$$$ contracts for something they have no track record in, with an extremely wooly description of their content

Take it up with Netflix 🤷‍♀️

If you work in the industry, you’ll know all too well it’s not all about talent and great content. Names sell.

Should others too?

Lookingforwardto2021 · 19/02/2021 20:22

So, Royal family being patronising while funded by the taxpayer

HM being patronising while being funded by big media

I ‘prefer’ the latter. At least I am not paying for it 😃

AngeloMysterioso · 19/02/2021 20:25

@RickiTarr

I'm sure people will say 'the royals also get to sit around doing nothing because of their status' which is true enough. But they haven't been banging on about wanting financial independence or new progressive roles as private citizens, none of which H&M actually seem to have yet either. Don't make out they've somehow elevated themselves above the 'workshy' royals. They haven't.

That to me is what makes H&M marginally more irritating than the Royals.

The Royals are constantly trying to hide their wealth, big up their “work”, spread themselves thinly and count each fifteen minute activity as a separate “engagement” to make them look busier than they are. When that fails they get out the crowns and gowns or publish photos of the cute royal children for people to cluck over. They get away with it because some people are blind monarchists, most republicans are resigned to being stuck with them, the media goes easy on them (mostly) and because a lot of us slightly pity them as being captives in a gilded cage.

OTOH, H&M burst out, bugger off, take Papa’s cash by the bucket load, use an inherited fortune & family money to secure a massive mortgage while jobless, then sign contracts and brag about their non-job jobs, wont present their kid for cooing over, make themselves a luxury lifestyle that involves no real work and call it “freedom” and “service”.

At least Buckingham Palace know they’re lying to us. The Sussexes are deluded.

I will also give credit for this being a more entertaining circus ATM. Better value than we normally get.

Don’t ask me to pick a side though.

Agree with every word of this.
AngeloMysterioso · 19/02/2021 20:28

@TheKeatingFive

use an inherited fortune & family money to secure a massive mortgage while jobless

I really doubt they needed a mortgage.

Plenty of people take out mortgages when they can afford to buy their massive houses several times over. I used to work for a private mortgage broker, we had clients who were ridiculously wealthy. One was the daughter and sole heiress of a deceased Russian billionaire. She still got a mortgage.
StoneofDestiny · 19/02/2021 20:29

I'm a Republican and want rid of the whole lot of the Royal sponging millionaires. However I don't get the hostility to Meghan and Harry. They want to give an interview as private individuals then let them.

Andrew gave an interview as an 'active' (don't make me laugh) royal. Look what happened there.
Diana did - admitted dysfunctional family and affair
Charles did - admitted affair
Anne just has made a documentary on her life
Fergie has done interviews - lots

AngeloMysterioso · 19/02/2021 20:30

Didn’t Sophie Wessex volunteer at a food bank type place at the start of the pandemic? It wasn’t PR’d to death though so I think it largely went unnoticed til another volunteer took a pic of her and sent it to the DM. That’s what I’d do in their position tbh, volunteer as much as I can but keep it on the downlow...

TheKeatingFive · 19/02/2021 20:38

Plenty of people take out mortgages when they can afford to buy their massive houses several times over

Well that’s interesting. I don’t think the bank was concerned with their ability to repay however.

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 19/02/2021 20:42

@MissTrip82

Not sure why someone keeps arguing about their place in the ‘Royal pyramid’. The metaphor doesn’t relate to just the Royal Family, it’s the whole of British society. It’s a social pyramid with members of the royal family at the top. It’s not a sophisticated metaphor, sure, but it’s clear.

I think you’re arguing with a metaphor you seem to have completely misunderstood.

"Imagine a society founded on a class structure with the (white) British royal family at the top as determined by birth and by blood. A biracial woman enters the top of the pyramid by marriage"

It literally says it's talking about the white British royal family, into which Meghan married, being at the top of the pyramid. Not sure why it's my lack of understanding of 'metaphors' that's being called into question here

Roussette · 19/02/2021 20:49

Fergie has done interviews - lots

Along with flogging plates with the royal emblem, and a child's book about having Tea with the Queen, Weightwatchers, and selling access to Andrew.

derxa · 19/02/2021 20:50

I think 'they're a pair of twats' covers it

Roussette · 19/02/2021 20:50

Oh, and an excrutiating interview with Ophrah about her time in the RF and stories about Diana

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 19/02/2021 20:51

@Roussette

Fergie has done interviews - lots

And she has long been regarded as the biggest joke of the lot! She has had unlimited flak from the press, let's not pretend she hasn't.
Roussette · 19/02/2021 20:52

Along with Andrew of course.

I hope.

No actually I don’t mind Netflix. They had a deal with Shondaland to make Bridgerton, first series all shot in UK from Autumn 2019 to March 2020. Loads of British crew (not me) worked it on fixed term contracts. A week after their contracts were up Lockdown 1 etc kicked off and all filming of everything shut down. All the jobs the Bridgerton crew had lined up were just cancelled overnight and most of them couldn’t access the self employed help because they’re PAYE contractors. Netflix/Shondaland got together and offered every single crew member who wanted it Furlough when it was announced. They didn’t need to. It was outside the cut off date and the crew was huge but they did it. I have a lot of respect for that. They completely saved some households with only freelancing adults.

Netflix are a better organisation than many.

Roussette · 19/02/2021 20:53

Good to hear.

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 19/02/2021 20:56

@RickiTarr that is reassuring indeed that a company as big as Netflix did that.

RickiTarr · 19/02/2021 20:58

It is, isn’t it?

OTOH, I heard some awful stories about some UK media companies, but I don’t want to get sued so I won’t go there. Grin

I completely agree. New titles? The Twat and Twatess of whatever vegan latte paradise they reside in.
TheKeatingFive · 19/02/2021 21:03

Great to hear that.

Entirely by the by, but I love Shonda Rimes’ stuff.
