To ask if you would put child forward for the vaccine trial?

So the Oxford vaccine is now to be tested in children as young as six. Would you put your child up for for children?

Everyone calling others stupid for not wanting it can now volunteer their kids! Because, you know... you're so confident that it's perfectly safe and the right thing to do.
@Funnyfive ew why? They don't know if it's safe for your child so why would you put them at risk like that Sad
This is distasteful.
Fair enough you don't want to put yotlu

ItsNotAlrightButItsOkay · 13/02/2021 15:37

Put your child forward but stop judging those that would.

MissDollyMix · 13/02/2021 15:44

I actually clicked on the link to check it out, I most certainly would let my DC take part in the trial (if they wanted to) Unfortunately we don’t live I the right area so won’t be able to take part. I wouldn’t necessarily submit my children for any old random scientific testing but in this specific case I would have no qualms.

Maldives2006 · 13/02/2021 16:03

@GarlicMonkey

The side effects were awful for you for the vast vast majority of people who take the vaccine the worst they’ll get is a bit of a headache and a temp. Not sure its worth taking the option or the informed choice away from your 15year old.

Adancewithdragons · 13/02/2021 16:08

Stage 3 clinical....yes! They know it’s safe just not the efficacy

Conkergame · 13/02/2021 16:10

@MaLarkinn what a truly horrible and ignorant attitude. You do realise your family owe a huge debt of gratitude to anyone who has taken in part in trials for any vaccine you have ever taken?

I feel so sorry for your children having such an ignorant, rude mother who will no doubt be passing such horrible thoughts onto them Sad Hopefully they grow up to be better than you.

TinaYouFatLard · 13/02/2021 16:10

Nope. No way.

ArianaVenti · 13/02/2021 16:11

Thank you @Sirzy i got all excited then but unfortunately live in the wrong area. I think they started with those areas for the original trial and then rolled it out further didn't they - hopefully they'll do the same this time too.

Funnyfive · 13/02/2021 16:13

I’ve just checked and we are literally 1 postcode away from a trial area - a pity because i would otherwise be talking to and encouraging both my kids to get involved.

Pyewhacket · 13/02/2021 16:14

Yes, I would.

Tellto · 13/02/2021 16:18

yes, but my wife has been working on the creation of the vaccines and is thoroughly comfortable with them. also no concerns with fertility with the vaccine whilst getting covid itself is proven to impact fertility so its would be a clear choice for us.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 13/02/2021 16:23

If it protects 40 somethings from Long Covid and 80 somethings from getting seriously ill and dying why not. It's less of a risk than losing a year of their childhood where they can't go to school or even play with other children.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 13/02/2021 16:24

@Maldives2006 You could say something very similar about Covid itself. Esp if those who are actually at risk get vaccinated themselves.

LadyMayoGoodway · 13/02/2021 16:25

Why would you have any reason to think it effects your fertility OP? Have other vaccines effected your fertility? Planning more children?

I smell a rat. I think you are using this as bait to make a point about the vaccine.

Angel2702 · 13/02/2021 16:26

I can’t get any of the links to work for me.

TheGoogleMum · 13/02/2021 16:28

DD is only 2 so doesn't doesn't apply to me. Tbh probably not, covid isn't very risky to kids so it's less needed.

MargaretThursday · 13/02/2021 16:30

I would for dd1 and dd2 when they were that age. I'd be more reluctant for ds (and suspect they might not take him) because he has a history of reacting badly, but not in a severe type way.
He'll have a temperature of 39-40+ for a couple of days (plus vomiting and about 50% of the time a non-fading rash) after every single injections he's had since a baby. When he was a baby they would only do one injection at a time because of this.

@TheGoogleMum

We currently have a six year old pupil in hospital with COVID, try telling his Mum it's not very risky!

Fembot123 · 13/02/2021 16:45

I don’t see the joined up thinking in not wanting a jab because of the immune response being grotty surely you can see that your bodies response to the actual virus could be a lot worse

Angel2702 · 13/02/2021 17:10

Finally got link to work. My eldest (14) isn’t eligible I assume due to being on medication? He has the same conditions as his sister (9) who has passed the initial screening form. My 12 year old decided not to volunteer as it’s at weekends as he doesn’t want to risk letting his sports team down for follow up appointments.

My daughter would love to do it if she’s selected, she loves hospitals and blood tests, the only person I know who asks when she can go to hospital next.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 13/02/2021 17:10

Spanieleyes loads of kids are hospitalised every year with chicken pox. Still no vaccine available on NHS despite years of safety studies.....

Tryingtryingandtrying · 13/02/2021 17:12

@fembot123 I think the point is that for children the virus itself is usually asymptomatic or a cold. So the risk benefit factor on an individual level does not work for such a new vaccine.

CharlotteRose90 · 13/02/2021 17:24

Older children I think should have it yes younger children no chance. Although I had my vaccine today and feel absolutely vile so I wouldn’t want children going through what I am currently

Sorry my response was about an adult not wanting the second jab ☺️
