To think that there's something more to these famous women's dramatic weight losses?

Over the last year or so, I've seen Adele, Rebel Wilson and Kelly Osbourne dramatically lose weight. They look amazing, and completely different. It's in their faces too. Is there some new kind of weight loss surgery going around, or is it really just diet and exercise? I love all these women no matter what their size, and I struggle with weight loss myself and admire them for being healthy and looking incredibly fit. But is something going on that's not available to the masses? (no pun intended)

Probably eating healthily and exercising.

YenneferOfBattenberg · 12/02/2021 03:44

I think it's a result of hard work. But also the personal trainers, dieticians, time, and money that the average person probably doesn't have (quite the same level of) access to.

joystir59 · 12/02/2021 03:44

I lost 5 stone in a year by adopting a healthy way of eating (I was already exercising enough). When you stop grossly overeating the effect is dramatic. I've been a healthy weight for well over a year now and it's now I've had the real struggle- maintaining a healthy weight. I'm doing so by paying attention to my weighing scales!

Hazelnutlatteplease · 12/02/2021 03:45

Apps like My fitness pal is making it far easier to loose weight and maintain that weightloss.

AtlasPine · 12/02/2021 03:48

Bariatric surgery is also a possibility. But agreed, it’s more likely to be low carb/fasting which is so popular medically now.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 12/02/2021 03:49

Didn’t Kelly Osborne have gastric sleeve surgery?

blubberball · 12/02/2021 03:50

Well done @joystir59! That's fantastic!

I've been low carb/low sugar/low fat for several weeks now due to health reasons. I've barely lost anything. I think I'm just annoyed. 😅

DramaAlpaca · 12/02/2021 03:51

Yes, I'm sure Kelly Osborne had bariatric surgery. I thought Adele had admitted to it too? Don't quote me on that though. Sorry to Rebel Wilson but I haven't a clue who she is so can't comment there.

theyoungishman · 12/02/2021 03:56

I would say it would be definitely keto / low carb and intermittent fasting. obviously if you could have the funds to employ a personal chef to create all sorts of tasty keto meals that would be a good start!

I think you're going wrong with your combination.. if you're going to do low carb low sugar you need to have high fat!!

Sapho47 · 12/02/2021 03:57

Well there's that new weight loss pill that suppresses appetite and is having lots of success.

Which must be very awkward for the "its muh genetics" crowd.

blubberball · 12/02/2021 04:00

I'm not allowed high fat. I wish that I was 😢

If you have the money to pay for staff to be in charge of your access to food, and the will power to give them the instructions to keep you on 1400 calories a day no matter how hard you beg, as well as other staff to force you into a high energy burning exercise regime, then I am sure losing weight is a heck of a lot easier than it is for those of us trying to keep a larder stocked with energy fuel for hungry teens and pre-teens and juggling WFH, household management and homeschool supervision and trying to eek out regular slots for exercise amongst all that. I doubt it is any kind of secret, it's just a matter of money.

Well no you can't say its money when even you say.

"and the will power to give them the instructions to keep you on 1400 calories a day "

Its will power...

It takes the same will power no matter what, you have to walk to the larder they have to say "you're fired" and walk to the larder

Around a year ago I was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic, it was the kick up the arse I needed to sort out my diet & lifestyle. I use my fitness pal to track everything and am low carb (100g a day). Over the past year I’ve lost over 7st, I’m now at the point I want to maintain & that’s proving harder than losing the weight.

MrWendel · 12/02/2021 05:13

Yes, all of the celeb gossip blogs have well documented Adele's surgery. Apparently she has been approached to advertise for the clinic but has declined.

I do believe that it is of course possibly to lose weight through exercise, diet and yes sometimes through huge amounts of stress (though this usually ends in disordered eating), but for many celebs, surgery and sculpting is often the answer.

Iamthewombat · 12/02/2021 05:20

Yes, I'm sure Kelly Osborne had bariatric surgery

Her mother had it too, several years ago. Kelly wasn’t admitting to it easily though: it was, “my choice, my business, don’t judge me, waaah”.

I thought Adele had admitted to it too?

I don’t think that she has admitted it, but I bet that she has.

What an example to set to young women.

By the doctor or by a diet? I agree with pp that low carb needs high fat ideally.
QueenOfPain · 12/02/2021 05:37

What an example to set to young women.

Sorry, what’s your point?

That Adele had a problem with her weight so decided to have life saving surgery to take back control of her health? Weight loss surgery is proven to be the most effective method and lose weight and keep it off. I’m not sure that’s a poor example to set. Would you have preferred her to sell some shakes on her IG and put out an exercise tape?

dontgobaconmyheart · 12/02/2021 05:40

Gastric band of some sort. Sad that people will beat themselves up over not achieving the same results quickly through restrictive esting and exercise all because celebrities won't ever admit these things. Same with surgeries and awful selective wording with daft thing like "no I've never had any plastic surgery on my face" but it looks like an entirely different person's as a result of non surgical (so technically not quite a lie) filler, reshaping, retexturing and various cosmetic enhancement. Bonus points for then pretending it was 'x' skincare/product that helped achieve it, as part if a brand deal to keep the cash flowing in constantly.

It's a shameless industry. Using celebrities as a metric for how we should look is pointless.

Sheepies · 12/02/2021 05:46

The fact she has said she lost it through diet and exercise is a bad example, when it's likely she had surgery. Not the weight loss itself.

aweegc · 12/02/2021 05:53

It takes the same will power no matter what, you have to walk to the larder they have to say "you're fired" and walk to the larder

That's unlikely unless they're total cows.

I'd DEFINITELY weigh less if I didn't have to cook meals for the kids, make lunches for school. I'd weigh even less if I didn't have to prepare two meals when I'm low carb (kids need carbs and like different foods than I'd make on a low carb diet). And I'd be at my perfect weight if I had a private chef to cook my meals, eliminating the need for me to ever actually go in the kitchen (I don't actually like cooking anyway) and make food that tastes great AND is varied.

So yes, will power is needed, but I reckon it's easier to lose weight when you're extremely wealthy.

I have always said the first thing id want if I won the lottery is a private chef!

felulageller · 12/02/2021 06:00

Even if someone loses several stones of weight they will need surgery to get rid of the excess skin/ overhang. I don't begrudge any celeb doing this. Wasn't there a programme about Lisa Riley doing this? Also Michelle Mone admitted to this after she lost 8 stones.

Plenty of people do the diet and exercise thing but will never lose the weight without a gastric band then resculpting. Celebrities are no different.

Plus they are also victim to regaining it as 95% do - think of Sharon Osborne, Pauline Quirk, Claire Richards, Yvette Freeman, Roseanne Barr, Anne Diamond, Oprah, Missy Elliot amongst others.

Greendoonan · 12/02/2021 06:19

Most of them have admitted to surgery. Both to lose the weight and to get rid of loose skin.

Ginevere · 12/02/2021 06:21

@joystir59 that’s an amazing weight loss, well done! When you say healthy eating, can I ask what you ate?
