of people and why? I'll start by saying as a brit I just love the Aussies for their chilled out nature and dry, self depreciating humour.

OP posts:
Bairnsmum05 · 12/02/2021 19:57

Scotland or Ireland. You can make friends with people at the bus stop or in the pub toilets 😂 friendly sociable bunch with great sense of humour.

MissConductUS · 12/02/2021 20:03

I also love American East Coasters. Very dry witted people

Thanks. I find this true of New Yorkers in particular.

Fairyliz · 12/02/2021 20:03

The Swedes definitely.
Lovely people, fabulous English and hot and sexy as well what more could you want?
Who are all these people voting for the Scottish? Dour miserable lot Confused

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/02/2021 20:07

America - my second home - for the open, outgoing, incredibly friendly people with their can-do attitudes

Not a popular one to admit to on MN, though!!

MaLarkinn · 12/02/2021 20:08

Feeling very proud to be Irish Grin

OfaFrenchmind2 · 12/02/2021 20:09

Am French, and really love France and the French.

But I have also great love for England and the English. Great humor, fantastic and complex history, beautiful heritage... Even the food can be ok-ish!

"Who are all these people voting for the Scottish? Dour miserable lot confused"

I see the twats the OP was talking about have turned up. Was there any need for this?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 12/02/2021 20:15

myturf · 12/02/2021 20:17

speakout · 12/02/2021 20:17

All nations are to be celebrated
I love the differences we have.
It make for a rich tapestry of amazing culture.

Bairnsmum05 · 12/02/2021 20:21

Scottish people dour? You are having a laugh 😂😂

FraughtwithGin · 12/02/2021 20:21

Scotland - born there, feel totally at home whenever there
Germany - lived here for more than half my life & have dual nationality
Sri Lanka - beautiful, serene place and people
Ireland - great fun

Bekilted · 12/02/2021 20:21

There are bits I love about every country I've been too.
It's nice to see some pride about so many people's home nations!
I'm biased and must say Scotland is my favourite though.

EileenGC · 12/02/2021 20:34

I’ve lived in many countries and England is still top of my list. The positives far outweigh the negatives: culture, history, humour, the people. I felt they all embraced me from day 1. England for me is home, even though I’m not even remotely British. Wales is fabulous too.

Italians and French are either the most horrible or the most lovely, warm-hearted people you could meet. I have met lovely people from Italy and France who have influenced my life so much, and they’re so selfless whilst being full of life and so, so refined in a way. Don’t get me started on their food...

I’m now living in Germany and I have to say, not everything is perfect here but this country functions pretty damn well. The language is not easy to learn though, and they aren’t exactly friendly, even those friends you think you’ve made for life. But their attitude is very no non-sense allowed, and it shows in day to day life (at least in those aspects I experience). Would I want to live here forever? No. Am I enjoying having a stable income, good job prospects and being part of a respectful and very well-organised society? Hell yes.

speakout · 12/02/2021 20:42

EileenGC

I appreciate your post you have a balanced view.
I really don't think it helps to compare nations.
Unless we live is a place of deprivation or conflict, then we all have a pretty good deal.
And humans are the same globally.
We all love, we all fear, we all have dreams, aspirations, we all cae for our children.

DenisetheMenace · 12/02/2021 20:44

Travelled widely in Japan several times, for both business and pleasure, though some years ago now. Everyone we met was delightful, without exception. Memorably so.

DenisetheMenace · 12/02/2021 20:45

Actually, have known 3 Japanese families seconded to the UK, equally lovely.

EssentialHummus · 12/02/2021 20:50

The Dutch - straight-shooting, warm, great sense of fun and the absurd. We travel there a lot (or did, in the Before Times) and I always felt right at home. Also, the cheese counters in their supermarkets.

Honorable mention to the Irish though, for just the sexiest blokes ever.

MirandaMarple · 12/02/2021 20:53

@mmgirish yes, I had a 4 week trip there winter 2019. But...the humidity. Wow!

MirandaMarple · 12/02/2021 20:53

India. For their ability to make everything taste so good without meat.

ImnotCarolineHirons · 12/02/2021 20:56

@Fairyliz we are not dour or miserable. We are hilarious with our friends. We just don't waste our time being nice to cunts like you

Anystarinthesky · 12/02/2021 21:00

Slovenians

Canadians

For the same reasons, kind, friendly and polite people.

lockdownvino · 12/02/2021 21:03

@Alonelonelyloner

Me too *@Wannakisstheteacher*

Russia!

Please can I ask what it is you like about Russia? I went and I did enjoy myself but I found it all very "abrupt" if that makes sense?
serialgrannie · 12/02/2021 21:18

We have travelled a lot and lived abroad a lot when we are younger, including the Middle East. The Scots are generally lovely on an individual level, but there is a very strong anti-English vibe in their media which we found unsettling when living there. Grenada in the Caribbean is one of our favourite places in the world - lovely generous people (we stayed with locals) and the most beautiful island. The Norwegians and Scandis generally can be relied on to be wonderfully welcoming, open and friendly without always being after the tourist dollar. The Costa Ricans take some beating - they are so proud of their environment, their country, their medical facilities and their lack of a standing army. Just hope they can resist the pull of the might US dollar and not wreck their wonderful coastline. But best of all imo are the Japanese. For example, we were on a local bus in Yokohama and needed to get to a particular destination. Everyone on the bus was keen to help, and the bus driver got off, took us to the nearest junction and pointed us in the right direction, though he spoke no English. Japanese manners are incredible - and everything is so very efficient.

AdultierAdult · 12/02/2021 21:22

I'm half Irish and half Algerian and I love the English for how quiet and calm they (generally) are. At least compared to my respective extendrd families, maybe I just come from a boisterous bunch!
