of people and why? I'll start by saying as a brit I just love the Aussies for their chilled out nature and dry, self depreciating humour.

We're in Scotland, and my 14 year old attends a private girls' school. There's a lot of Chinese boarders; she loves them and they love her! There does seem to be real affinity on both sides. So although she's never been, my 14 year old would say China Grin

strudsespark · 11/02/2021 18:00

Ultimately my own country, because this is what I know (Scandi).

But,
UK for the sense of humor
France for food
Belgium even better foodwise (French food in Dutch portion sizes Grin)
The Netherlands lovely welcoming people when we lived there
Germany for the sausages

LynetteScavo · 11/02/2021 18:00

@NeedToKnow101

I was going to say the Ranganation first though.
Grin That prior made me laugh!
FelicityPike · 11/02/2021 18:02

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing

The Dutch always seem lovely. Never met a Dutch person who wasn’t lovely and friendly.
My ex....total rat bastard.
LynetteScavo · 11/02/2021 18:08

I'd think Germans have a lot of good qualities. The language is easier than others to learn, they wear Birkenstock's. And the Irish. Because I've married in to an Irish family and haven't seen my in laws for ages so quite like them atm

But neither are renowned for their fashion. I must value friendly drinking buddies over fashionistas.

I liked Canadians when I went to Canada. Very little weirdness apart from ailing and saying hello for no reason, other than being friendly.

SepiaTonedLove · 11/02/2021 18:08

Catalonia. Absolutely love everything about the place. The language, the outdoor life, the food, the history, the mishmash of cultures in Barcelona, the wine, the people... Wish I was there now!

JRUIN · 11/02/2021 18:09

England. I love the English sense of humour and tolerance. And if you don't agree, try living elsewhere.

I totally agree.

thelegohooverer · 11/02/2021 18:16

I have a secret love of the Danish - polite, laid back yet competent - but I feel it’s quite a treacherous opinion given the whole Viking situation.
To balance the cognitive dissonance I’ve convinced myself that they got rid of all their bastards by sending them out on boats to take and pillage and settle elsewhere which is why the modern Danes are invariably lovely and other nations not so much.

Toomanyradishes · 11/02/2021 18:17

strudsespark · 11/02/2021 18:23

@thelegohooverer
😂 i think it's the very first time someone has called us polite, thank you 😂.

Forgetaboutme · 11/02/2021 18:27

Any Scandinavian for me. They seem to have good family cultures and theres plenty of pretty coast areas or fjords.

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 11/02/2021 18:36

I also love the Scandinavians and secretly wish I was one but its only from what I've garnerd from TV, I have no real life experience of living there or even knowing any Scandi folk.

I might have said Italy as I love the food and the country but having worked among them on cruise ships my Britishness really struggled with their high expressed emotion over every little thing.

And yes to the PP re Australians and self depreciation, they are often ( in British eyes) very boastful and I worked with several in the past who continually compared the UK to Oz in a very negative way which gets on your nerves after a while.

scentedgeranium · 11/02/2021 18:36

Costa Rican Ticos and Ticas are so proud of what their country has become -
They're rewilding it and want everyone to come and see how amazing it is. Pura Vida is a thing.

I have a sneaking admiration for the stroppiness of the French National character: that Gallic who cares shrug.

Also Ireland and the Irish. So often warm, funny, great for a chinwag, and generous. And a beautiful country.

JRUIN · 11/02/2021 18:41

Scotland

Going to hazard a guess here that you are Scottish?

Thai people - such lovely, welcoming and friendly people. Plus the country itself is phenomenal and has so much to offer!

Frozenintime · 11/02/2021 18:50

Many different nations. They all have their own positive attributes

Dowser · 11/02/2021 19:03

I don’t have a particularly wide pool to pick from having visited so few countries and live in a not very ethnically diverse area of the uk

However at the top of my list I’d put
Canarians and Cubans..many did come from Cuba
Pakistani muslims..again lovely people, I have many friends amongst them and
Americans..from our time in Florida, for the most part open friendly
I also have a lot of time for the Irish, Welsh and Scottish

Dowser · 11/02/2021 19:06

I find the Swedish straight as a die..I don’t think they are natural rule breakers.

Dowser · 11/02/2021 19:16

I also love the English
I think we are a great nation.
I’m proud of my heritage, which also has a huge smattering of Irish and Scottish in there...and I’m welsh by adoption.

ParkheadParadise · 11/02/2021 19:16

I've had some fantastic holidays and nights out in Ireland.
Scottish and Irish get 5 stars from me👍
