Trump is acquitted.

But this is the largest number of senators to vote to convict a president of their party in US history.

Lonelycrab · 13/02/2021 20:57

Not unexpected but still. Wtaf. 😞

BruceAndNosh · 13/02/2021 20:57

Not surprising but thank goodness I don't need to hear Van der Veen irritating voice any more

BruceAndNosh · 13/02/2021 20:58

43 - 57 is hardly a ringing endorsement of 'America's favourite preseident"

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/02/2021 21:00

@DuncinToffee

Seven Republicans voted guilty:

Burr
Cassidy
Collins
Murkowski
Romney
Sasse
Toomey

Goodness, Collins actually voted with her conscience. That's a first, isn't it?
ListeningQuietly · 13/02/2021 21:00

The next time the mob comes
the GOP will be in the cross hairs
and they voted for that
bring it on

lionheart · 13/02/2021 21:01

'A vote of infamy in the history of the United States Senate.'

Sen. Chuck Schumer.

minou123 · 13/02/2021 21:04

Schemer is speaking.

Roussette · 13/02/2021 21:06

Schumer is giving a very powerful speech

OP posts:
DuncinToffee · 13/02/2021 21:07

Leader Schumer: "This was about choosing country over Donald Trump, and 43 Republicans members chose Trump. They chose Trump. And it should be a weight on their conscience."

DuncinToffee · 13/02/2021 21:11

McConnell, who voted to acquit, is excoriating Trump for a "disgraceful dereliction of duty." "There's no question - none - that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day."

So why not vote 'guilty'?

ludothedog · 13/02/2021 21:12

Wtf? McConnell saying? Trump is responsible but he still voted not guilty!!! He's going to give some legal loophole as a reason.
I suppose at least he spoke out. Unbelievable AngryAngry

stockpilingallthecheese · 13/02/2021 21:13

This is baffling

minou123 · 13/02/2021 21:14

I dont understand what's going on.

Why is Mitch McConnell saying Trump incited the violence and riots! Didn't he just vote not guilty?

Once again, I ask you What the Jiminey Cricket is going on?

Roussette · 13/02/2021 21:15

How can McConnell say all this? I don't understand. He is saying it was down to Trump and his 'false lies' and 'he is practically and morally responsible' but he voted not guilty????
'He shouted this with intemperate language'
'trial by combat''
'unfounded claims. Shadowy forces are stealing our country' said Trump
'conspiracy theories by an outgoing president, and torch our institutions on the way out'
'we know he was watching the same live television as us'
'his criminals were screaming their loyalty and only Pres. Trump could end it'
'Aides begged him to do so and the President did not do his job or act quickly'
'Instead he watched television happily as the chaos unfolded. VP Pence was in serious danger, but the President sent a further tweet attacking his own VP so members of the mob saw this as a further inspiration'

And he's still talking

Why why why not guilty?

Well not unexpected but surprising.

Well done GOP, you've shown you morals.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 13/02/2021 21:16

I could not hate McConnell more than I do now. What a two-faced traitor he is.

maggiethecat · 13/02/2021 21:19

McConnell didn't have guts to convict yet trying to distance himself from Trump.

As Schumer effectively said - it will be a stain against the Senate Republicans forever.

Snowsnowglorioussnow · 13/02/2021 21:19

Has it finished, has trump been cleared??

maggiethecat · 13/02/2021 21:21

McConnell trying to justify his decision on the constitutionality point 🤬

colouringindoors · 13/02/2021 21:22

Fuckers.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 13/02/2021 21:22

Some speculation on Twitter that McConnell and Schumer did a deal that they could vote on 14(3) and bar Trump from running again in exchange for no witnesses being called? And that this speech is McConnell announcing it. I wonder?

minou123 · 13/02/2021 21:22

@maggiethecat

McConnell trying to justify his decision on the constitutionality point 🤬
Oh, I see.

Let's see how many other GOP usevrhis same excuse.

Roussette · 13/02/2021 21:22

Given his speech, I have no idea why on earth he could not say 'guilty'

He's wiping the floor with Trump

colouringindoors · 13/02/2021 21:23

McConnell has sold his soul. But to WHO? WHAT?
