Oh FFS they are going on about election fraud
Give 'em their due , they're addressing it all.

But it's embarrassing

ludothedog · 12/02/2021 20:17

Whoops, there it is, cancel culture. I'll give them their dues, they really are very good at gaslighting and double speak.

DuncinToffee · 12/02/2021 20:17

Everything Trump lawyer saying about Georgia is a lie: signature verification audit in Cobb County GA found two mismatched signatures out of 15,000 votes, zero cases of fraud

FridayNightAtTheBronze · 12/02/2021 20:17

Roussette

Also embarrassing..... Unhappy about the word 'find' being taken out of context (it wasn't). But happy to do it with the word 'fight' Confused

And this is not a smooth presentation at all. Not that they care, as they have all the votes they need to acquit. But still, it's very clunky and jarring to watch.

DuncinToffee · 12/02/2021 20:19

President Trump's lawyers conclude their case, using about 3 of a possible 16 hours to defend Trump in his second impeachment trial. A question and answer session is likely to follow, but Republicans aren't planning to ask any. Trial likely to be finished by tomorrow.

prettybird · 12/02/2021 20:19

They then had the gall to complain that the impeachment trial was taking time and effort away from dealing with Covid ShockAngry

BruceAndNosh · 12/02/2021 20:21

And van der Veen going How very DARE you call my argument frivolous and try to get me disbarred and make my family destitute?!

Uh, you're not a Public Defender. You could have declined the case when you realised it was a pile of poo instead of trying to sprinkle glitter over it

FridayNightAtTheBronze · 12/02/2021 20:22

Did he actually just say that?

"We aren't going to take very long today, because we want you to use the hours to address Covid instead."

Grin Unbelievable

AcrossthePond55 · 12/02/2021 20:36

I didn't watch 'live', but I did watch MSNBC during the breaks. All the defense team had to do was give the GOP Senators a wafer thin sliver of a nail to hang their hats on. And it looks like they've done that in spades. Doesn't matter that it's whataboutery and pure bullshit. They'll say how 'convincing' it was, hang their hats on it, and vote to acquit.

It really galls me that Doofus will crow and shout about his 'vindication'. It's not vindication at all, it's the greed and the lack of morals in the Senate GOP.

minou123 · 12/02/2021 20:44

I agree AcrossthePond55

Its so infuriating. Although I hope the Q&A will be enlightening.

Can I ask a stupid question? Do the house managers and defence team have to answer the questions?
So, if someone asks the defence team "can you explain why you lied about not receiving the house managers presentation before the trail?" - can the defencevteam refuse to answer?

DuncinToffee · 12/02/2021 21:08

They'll say how 'convincing' it was, hang their hats on it, and vote to acquit.

It seems to be working

Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., notes on the 4th day of the Impeachment trials for President Trump on Capitol Hill today. “The House Managers did not connect the dots to show President Trump knew that the attack on the Capitol was going to be violent and result in the loss of life.”

BruceAndNosh · 12/02/2021 21:10

So far Dems are questioning Managers, GOP questioning the defence.
It would be more enlightening the other way around

Roussette · 12/02/2021 21:11

I am loving some of these q's

'When did Trump exactly learn of the breach of the Capitol and what specific actions did he take and when did he take them. Please be specific'

Yamiche Alcindor @Yamiche

A moment to behold.

Senators Graham, Cruz, Marshall, Cramer: Does a politician raising bail for rioters encourage more rioting?

President Trump's defense team: "Yes."

Roussette · 12/02/2021 21:12

Defence: There is no time to answer this. The House Managers have given us no time to talk about this. Hearsay plus hearsay and no due process. That was denied.

BS

QuestionableDanceMoves · 12/02/2021 21:12

That was a spectacular non answer from trumps counsel on when he found out about the riot at the Capitol

And they didn't answer Angry blaming lack of investigation. They're Trumps counsel, why didn't they prepare for that?

In response to a Q from Collins and Murkowski about exactly when Trump learned of the breach and what steps he specifically took to end the attack, Van Der Veen says the House managers didn't investigate and didn't give any information on that.

(They did ask Trump to testify).

BruceAndNosh · 12/02/2021 21:21

Van der Veen didn't even try to answer.
He frankly can't be arsed

DuncinToffee · 12/02/2021 21:22

Sahil Kapur @sahilkapur

Impeachment trial Q&A is like Supreme Court oral arguments in that the questions asked — and who asks them — are more revelatory than the answers.

None of the defence can be bothered. I don't think any of them actually believe what they are saying anyway. They know they have the votes to acquit, so none of this matters to them.

ludothedog · 12/02/2021 21:34

But rep Castro did give evidence that Trump knew that Pence had been taken out, from Sen Turbeville (sp)

Roussette · 12/02/2021 21:35

It's really frustrating. They keep lying and say that Trump asked them to be peaceful and stop.
He didn't

What a very strange way of carrying out a Q and A. And the presiding bloke's voice! - I keep having to clear my throat Confused
