Just that really I would be interested to hear everyone’s opinions?

Let's criticise Islam. Ah yeah....too afraid.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 14/02/2021 12:07

@Flipflops85 was trying to get child in bath. They’re probably the top few off Google. Gimme a while and I’ll be back with plenty about the uk in the meantime start with www.iicsa.org.uk/ hun it might teach you a thing or two about your precious vicars you seem to revere so much, maybe email your local diocese and ask for stats and see what your local leaders think about it all

Blueeyedgirl21 · 14/02/2021 12:08

@Marmunia11975 absolutely not. Just not as familiar with it. Same with Orthodox Judaism - anyone seen Unorthodox? Massive criticism of a religion there. Horrifying abuse also

Flipflops85 · 14/02/2021 12:27

Thanks hun

CofE christianity is the national religion, the fact that the reigning monarch is the head of the church, so likely most of us that have gone through the education system in Britain have been indoctrinated by the state religion into believing something that isnt demonstrably true, so when some people realise theyve been duped and become atheist doesnt mean they havent retained some of the nonsense they were taught

Absolutely. This turned into a Christianity bashing thread so fast.

Nope. As has been repeatedly pointed out, if you're a white English person (especially if you live in a not very multicultural area, like me), you may well not have enough knowledge or experience of Islam to have a barrage of specific criticisms of it.

However, I am not even a teensy bit afraid of levelling my main criticism of Christianity against Islam too: Its god does not exist. Will that do? .

Evangelical and Pentecostal churches are thriving in the UK.

I'm not 'too afraid'. I criticise every ridiculous and poisonous belief system out there. Believe me, it's far easier to criticise any religion compared to new, modern fundamentalist beliefs these days.
BrumBoo · 14/02/2021 13:41

I mean that in terms of repercussions of course, to add to my previous post. Criticising religion has much less of a chance of someone of that belief trying to ruin your life as criticising new-age beliefs does.

VinylDetective · 14/02/2021 13:42
@Flipflops85 you’re welcome. Hope being an abuse apologist makes for a fun Val day 🥰
That was grossly unfair. I’ve just read all her posts nowhere has she been an apologist for abuse.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 14/02/2021 13:49

@VinylDetective think refusing to read or acknowledge facts is telling though

DNHandTNS · 14/02/2021 14:34

Most of the posts here are singling out Christianity though and yes, why are most of your posts from the US? Running out of hate proof are we?

Blueeyedgirl21 · 14/02/2021 14:47

I’ve got nothing more to at. Carry on burying your head in the sand, don’t look at IICSA, carry on giving your money and time to an institution that gives not a shit about you. It’s a free country.

lazylinguist · 14/02/2021 15:02

Yes, VinylDetective, we are singling out Christianity. Is it really so hard understand that people are more likely to criticise a religion that they are familiar with because it has surrounded them growing up, and is still part of the institutions of the country they live in, even though most people don't believe in it any more? My dc's village primary school (and practically all the primary schools in the area) are CofE. There are no Islamic primary schools here.

lazylinguist · 14/02/2021 15:03

Sorry, tagged the wrong poster. I meant @DNHandTNS

The thread started with religion as a concept. There was no need to single out any specific religion.
DNHandTNS · 14/02/2021 15:05

Perhaps instead of singling out Christians for their faith and their right to choose what faith they believe in, you might consider getting therapy for your angry views and the belief that all people are bad if they believe in the bible.
It has never worked singling out a group of people as BAD. It has gone very badly throughout history and is not even legal in the UK to condemn people for the right to follow the faith of their choosing.

DNHandTNS · 14/02/2021 15:08

It would not matter which faith your hatred was aimed at, but you clearly have a lack of tolerance for anyone believing anything that you clearly do not believe in.

It does seem that you have a particular hatred for Christianity, which you may want to get therapy for if you have had bad experiences in your past, rather than carrying it with you painfully.

lightand · 14/02/2021 15:19

I was beginning to think exactly the same thing @DNHandTNSe
Or perhaps posters have some other sort of hate they are carrying around.

BrumBoo · 14/02/2021 15:32

@DNHandTNS

Hatred is a strong word, many people have a genuine dislike for religion for many reasons. Same with tolerance - most people (bar far right nutters) tolerate religion and beliefs - that doesn't mean you have to agree or even like them. To tolerate something just means you put up with it, as there's not much else to be done. That doesn't mean it's not to be criticised.

Christianity is the main religion of the UK (thats why it's notably declining vs other religions) and still has too much of a grasp on our society. If it was just a case that 'well some people believe, but it's completely personal so keep your anti-theology opinions to yourself' you may have a point. The fact it's still a huge part of our education system, that many English schools are religious in their stance and acceptance, that we have Christians who feel it's ok to harass us on the streets or even on our own doorsteps with zero consequences, that people of faith can harass women outside abortion clinics... I mean this is not a small group with faith that are just keeping to themselves.

The moment religion stops making a nuisance in society is the moment people will stop pointing out exactly why they don't want to hear about it or why they believe it's nonsense.

AnitaB888 · 14/02/2021 15:36

OP it depends what 'religion' you mean?

Islam is on the increase.

If you are talking about Christianity, then Western Orthodox and Evangelical are increasing.

DNHandTNS · 14/02/2021 16:14

Those with a faith can pray and put down all the burdens that those without a faith are burdened by. We have a hope and peace, for this life and the next. It is what it is.
