Can we take a vote.....who will be following lockdown measures after May?

DuchessofHastings1 · 09/02/2021 17:12

There was a thread in Coronavirus but I wanted to do a vote to see actual numbers.

Vaccine roll out has been impressive. Our government seem to be digging out of the hole they got us in.
The over 50s (who count for 99%) of Covid deaths and the majority of hospital admissions will be vaccinated by end of May.

Who will be sticking to the rules once the elderly and vulnerable are vaccinated?

YANBU - NO
YABU - YES

We won’t be purposely flouting the rules to a large extent but we will be seeing family this summer no matter what.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 09/02/2021 17:14

It depends what the rules are in May and what case numbers etc are like, surely?

TingTastic · 09/02/2021 17:14

I might be naive but I think the government will only put lockdown measures in place that are needed, so will continue following them

I’m particularly concerned about mutations that mean the virus starts resisting the vaccine (eg the SA strain)

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 09/02/2021 17:15

Well if nothing opens up, then my life won't change. I would probably go and see my mum, but that's it.

PhilCornwall1 · 09/02/2021 17:15

I'll be seeing family, regardless of what the government says.

tatutata · 09/02/2021 17:15

Ffs. I can't not stick to the rules!! I can't go and visit in laws if it's illegal. Their neighbours would report us even if they let us visit, and I don't have a "coronavirus fines slush fund"!!

Thing is, I want to go on hols with my mum, but I can't because the rule of 6 bites us in the arse immediately. And every holiday accommodation now asks for details.
gamerchick · 09/02/2021 17:17

I'm not voting because it does my head in when people assign an answer Grin

I will be sticking to the guidelines for as long as it takes. Makes no odds to me anyway, my life hasn't changed a whole lot apart from one area. I'm quite enjoying not being obligated to see my family.

Uncontrollable mutations, vaccine or not should be in people's heads imo.

GreenSlide · 09/02/2021 17:19

It's too early to be making plans for this summer. Take it as it comes, if you feel it's safe to go to where you want to go in June or July then go, if you don't then stay in. But we don't know right now what the situation will be.

Veuvestar · 09/02/2021 17:23

Well you don’t know what lockdown measures will be like in May, so impossible to answer.
I’m confident lockdown measures will be eased significantly once the over 50’s are vaccinated.

Daisysflowers · 09/02/2021 17:25

Well some choices will be taken out of our hands, we can’t go to the shops if they are closed Grin

The thing I can control is who I see - I will be seeing family and close friends in my house from Easter.

Pimlicojo · 09/02/2021 17:27

How can anyone answer this when we don't know what the rules will be? May is nearly 3 months away.

Agree with this
Pollypocket21 · 09/02/2021 17:28

With new variants appearing all the time that the vaccines don't work well on, we really need to stick to the rules way beyond May.

peak2021 · 09/02/2021 17:28

I don't think you'll be able to flout those relating to overseas travel, because the countries of destination won't let you in.

TheQueef · 09/02/2021 17:30

I'm just rolling with it.
There isn't anything I need to do so it's easier for us.

mindutopia · 09/02/2021 17:30

I certainly will be, because I'm CV (and also likely have another underlying health condition, in the process of being investigated). I don't want to get ill as it could potentially have serious health consequences for me. I'm under 50 though and I don't know that all CV people will be vaccinated by then (and even so it's really the 2nd jab that matters). I don't personally want to be ill. Also, dh is self employed and time for illness is time off unpaid. God forbid he had to take 2-3 weeks of or longer, that would be really bad for us. He works alone though and sales are generally online, so there is almost no risk to him day to day.

But honestly, apart from working from home and schools being closed, lockdown hasn't massively changed our lifestyle. Friends and family all live quite far away (and nearly all of our close friends had a baby this past year - our dc are older), so it's hard for them to meet up with us anyway. We do lots of phone calls and zoom in normal times actually. Once I've had two doses of vaccine, yes, then I'll start to shift how I'm doing things though.

Ch3rish · 09/02/2021 17:31

How can anyone possibly answer

You need to tell us what the rules are going to be first, what do you expect posters to say? Has there been an announcement today?

WanderingMilly · 09/02/2021 17:32

It's too early to say what will happen in May. There will be some restrictions still and I shall follow them.
I can see family, outdoors, one at a time for a walk which I do now, so that's the same.
I shall be handing in my notice at work, I just don't think the place is safe.
I shall continue wearing a mask and gloves for a long time yet, whatever anyone else does....and keeping my distance. I have liked the fact I've had no coughs/colds/flu since we started doing this and I shall choose to continue. And that's after I get the vaccine....

toomanyspiderplants · 09/02/2021 17:32

Well. .The rules won't be the same so how can you have a meaningful vote/thread/discussion. .I will follow the rules as the situation demands at the time

Godimabitch · 09/02/2021 17:33

Depends what the situation is like tbh. If there's still alot of cases and hospitalisations then I'll follow the rules. But we're having a baby in May so I intend to spend the summer with a lot of family so long as I think it's safe for our baby. Nobody is welcome near the baby if they have any kind of cold or illness anyway. We've more than followed the rules since the first lockdown began, I'm not being locked away all summer with a baby for anything except that babys safety.

I think measures will be massively eased this summer though, I just hope it doesn't all work on a vaccination passport system as I wont be having the vaccine until I've finished breastfeeding although I've read having a recent negative test result will be allowed which is fine by me.

TinaYouFatLard · 09/02/2021 17:36

Doesn’t anyone read beyond the sensationalist, fear-mongering headlines?

The vaccines is effective at preventing severe disease and death. It is unclear how effective it is at preventing mild to moderate cases.

I am not willing to continue to live my life under house arrest to prevent someone from having to spend a few days in bed on the paracetamol. FFS.

DuchessofHastings1 · 09/02/2021 17:40

JeezHmm

If we have harsh restrictions come may, lockdown or tiers 3 and 4, will anyone be sticking to it? Didn't realise it was that hard of a question sorry.

Comes from the government saying from march last year how our only hope back to normality is the vaccine to save hospitalizations and save NHS.
Now we have it. By May over 50s will have it. Reports already show a decline in hospital admissions and deaths.

So come may, when the elderly and vulnerable are vaccinated, deaths and hospital admissions go down will you be sticking to it?

Seems like the narrative has changed.

Do we all cut our lives off incase there mutations? What if theres several of them? Does this go on for several years then?

Something has got to give.

shinynewapple2021 · 09/02/2021 17:41

I think restrictions will be lifting by that time in most areas anyway

As an aside. Are other posters able to vote using the app, as I'm not .

shinynewapple2021 · 09/02/2021 17:44

But what is the point winding people up with the idea there may still be harsh restrictions when none of us knows .

You sound disappointed that people have given sensible, thought out answers rather than hyperbole.
