For thinking what's the fucking point anymore?

"You shouldn't say that because you don't know what people are going though!"
Which is what a woman said to me when I asked her to pull up her mask yesterday. Right back at you. How the fuck does she think me and my colleagues feel having to deal with Covidiots like her on a daily basis? (I work in a supermarket.) She had her nose sticking out and kept pulling her mask away from her face, but because she's struggling and trying her best (so am I) that makes it acceptable? She didn't say she was exempt, and honestly if you're wearing a mask wear the damned thing properly! I then overheard her say 'How dare she say that to me?" to one of my colleagues in a really angry voice. I couldn't have been more fucking polite about it if I'd tried!
(I wish I'd said what I was thinking, that I dare because I'm more scared of getting Covid and dying from it than I am of shitty customers, but that might not have helped.)
I'm getting to the stage where I just want to lock myself in my house and refuse to come out until this is all over. I'm having panic attacks, my mental health is shot, and I don't feel like I can do this anymore. I'm also autistic and find certain things hard to cope with. The only reason I go to work is because I work with some lovely people who are keeping me sane at the moment.

Added to that the two women I was working with yesterday were agreeing with her. I spoke to my manager who confirmed I'd done the right thing, and when I told them that they got shirty with me too.

Then there was the fuckwit I dealt with on Friday. Again, I asked him to pull his mask up over his nose. "I don't think so' he said, and pulled one of those sunflower lanyards out of his shirt. Apparently he's exempt because he's autistic, but chooses to wear a mask. (See above, I was also standing next to a colleague of mine who's autistic.) I couldn't quite believe it, either wear one or don't, they don't work if your nose is sticking out, he was with a young woman who was wearing hers properly and another bloke who also had his nose sticking out. (I've noticed in my area it's men who are more likely to want to share their germs with everyone else.)

Then there are the people who walk in without wearing one at all, I was doing my shopping after work and three people, not a mask among them. I asked them if they had masks, the two women pulled theirs out and the bloke said he didn't have one, but of course he didn't bother going to where we keep the spare ones, he just carried on walking along. Twat.

@RoxanneMonke

Because it is their fucking business if they catch covid from exposure to yet another idiot who feels their right to not wear a mask for whatever reason trumps the shop staff’s right to feel safe whilst just trying to do their job. Science shows that masks give protection, it’s not preaching shit ffs.
Would you be happy to wear a mask forever just incase you ever passed on flu to another person?

You can buy the exemption lanyards on ebay and you can google an exemption thing to download on your phone. As previous posters have stated if you are SO vunerable that you cannot wear a mask/face shield you should not even be in a supermarket, you should be shielding at home and doing your shopping online or have someone to do it for you.

MrsBlue4 · 07/02/2021 23:12

@RoxanneMonke

It’s not flu is it. Bloody hell. Yes course I’d wear a mask if it saves lives.
Did I say it was flu? So you'd be happy to wear a mask forever then? What about not seeing family and friends forever? You know just incase you have a virus you don't know about? The fear around this is absolutely insane. Yes there is a virus but where do we start living again instead of living in fear that everyone is infectious and will definitely kill someone if they don't wear a piece of fabric over their nose!
thenightsky · 07/02/2021 23:25

People have lost all common sense. People actively walking round someone because they think they are going to catch something by brushing past them. The world has gone fucking mad. And if you think a piece of cloth being over your nose is going to make a blind bit of difference then carry on preaching your shit and calling anyone who disagrees a covidiot.

Yeah, this.

CountessFrog · 07/02/2021 23:33

Totally agree about loss of common sense. I comply with the rules, but I’m really bloody sick of people out walking with their virtue signalling throwing themselves into bushes to avoid walking past people, ‘giving way’ on paths and generally expecting that all other people have equally lost their fucking minds and agree with playing their pointless game.

And don’t get me started on these people actually shouting at people or making passive aggressive comments.

The chances of catching a virus by walking past somebody on a country lane are vanishingly small. People with this level of anxiety ought to avoid going out.

Some people are exempt for mental health reasons, which does not make them more vulnerable to Covid. The guidelines allow for exemptions.. no where does it say anyone who can not wear a mask must stay at home and have shopping done for them. You are making that up.
TravellingTilbury · 07/02/2021 23:37

@RoxanneMonke

Well much scientific research says otherwise tatutata
It really doesn't.
TravellingTilbury · 07/02/2021 23:39

@RoxanneMonke

Nobody should be living their life on the basis of they might have an asymptomatic case of Covid. We need to move beyond that, or there will be nothing left for anyone to return to

Thing is, we really should. That’s the only way of getting through this and getting back to normal

Thing is, you are speaking drivel.
TravellingTilbury · 07/02/2021 23:41

@Norwayreally

It’s not difficult to wear a mask correctly and we’ve been legally obliged to do it for over six months now. I really don’t understand why people struggle so much, it goes over your mouth and your nose. They’re not comfortable, sure but neither is being in ICU so suck it up.

The medical exemption thing is tosh too, it isn’t a thing in other countries. You know, other countries who haven’t managed to lose over 112k people. If you can’t wear a mask because it affects your breathing you’re probably too vulnerable to enter a shop anyway (or you’ll have had the vaccination by now!).

More drivel alert.
MaxNormal · 07/02/2021 23:41

Well it is here, and you don't get to make additional pretend laws on the internet.

MrsBlue4 · 07/02/2021 23:41

Thank god there are some people with common sense left!

TravellingTilbury · 07/02/2021 23:44

@MrsPotatoHead2021

I don’t go in shops right now but if I did then I would wear a mask and wear it properly. YANBU, OP.

Why not go the whole hog and ban talking or, even better, get everyone to hold their breath in shops...

Still preaching about how little scientific evidence there is to suggest that the health benefits of wearing masks outweigh the bad. Whoops, no, just preaching shit.
XenoBitch · 07/02/2021 23:53

@Ladiva1971

XenoBitch what am I making up?
You are saying people who can not wear a mask should not be in shops and should have their shopping done for them. No where in the law/guidelines does it say that. People who are exempt from wearing masks are allowed to go shopping.
Annabell80 · 07/02/2021 23:56

If you don't want to wear a mask then don't go to the supermarket. I can't believe how selfish some people are!
I have no bloody choice, I have to work but don't want to die. You don't want to comply with the rules so stay the fuck at home!

Ladiva1971 · 07/02/2021 23:58

XenoBitch I Never stated that the law says that. That is my own personal opinion.

XenoBitch · 07/02/2021 23:59

People exempt from wearing masks can go shopping etc. There is nothing in the rules to say they can not. Stop making your own rules up, then getting shitty when other people don't follow them.
Ladiva1971 · 08/02/2021 00:01

Annabell80 I agree 100% I have to wear the fucking thing 10 hours a day!!! If you cannot wear it for 20 mins, shop online FFS

IsitSummeryet21 · 08/02/2021 00:01

I'm not vulnerable nor do I need to shield.
But I am exempt. I'm not going to keep out of shops.. My family has to eat.
We don't use shops that deliver.

I am exempt as my ex used to suffocate me and strangle me on a regular basis. I can't deal with anything near my face or my neck.

Whther that's a mask on face. Scarf round my neck, coat done up too high. High neck tops. I can't even wear my hair down because if it comes too far round the front it brings flashbacks.

However. I always keep 2m where I can. If for any reason I have to pass someone close I turn my head and apologise.
I wear a lanyard to avoid confrontation

I have tried. Many many times. Different types of mask. Even a shield I can't do it.
I hyperventilate and panic.

Wearing a mask brought on my 1st panic attack in 5 years the first time I wore it.

blueberryporridge · 08/02/2021 00:04

Because it's not their fucking business to tell other people what to do? There is also a lot of people in the scientific world saying that asymptomatic spread is rubbish.

Well, aren't you a charmer? Any links to your scientific research that asymptomatic spread is rubbish. Or that face coverings don't make a blind bit of difference? Or that walking round people to avoid touching them is stupid? Because I have read quite a bit of, you know, actual scientific research which actually indicates the opposite.

OP: you have my sympathies. It must be so stressful for you having to deal with so many selfish and/or thoughtless people.

Annabell80 · 08/02/2021 00:08

I didn't say if you can't wear a mask. I said if you don't want to wear a mask. Two different things.
