Because I refuse to believe that those appalling men would have spoken to another man the way they attempted to shout her down. She handled herself so beautifully.

Frankly I think she deserves to be Dame Jackie Weaver for services to common sense!

@Viviennemary

It's for the electorate to decide who represents them at meetings. Not Jackie Weaver.
Is that you, Aled's iPad?
LookMoreCloselier · 07/02/2021 10:04

Personally I'm sceptical of it, they knew it was being recorded and one of them even mentions the word viral. Were they perhaps playing up more than usual as it's hard to believe a bunch of adults could behave so appallingly. Its difficult to watch. Jackie is fine but that's it, she's competent while the others are not. I think we are all so bored that this is the depths of what we are talking about.

inappropriateraspberry · 07/02/2021 10:09

Ask Alexa 'Who is Jackie Weaver?' 😆

Is it?

LizzieSiddal · 07/02/2021 10:10

You do realise that this awful behaviour was not a one off? Jackie had been called in by the other counsellors, because of these men’s precious behaviour, so you are entirely wrong that they were “playing up”.

HeronLanyon · 07/02/2021 10:11

Interesting the number of phone calls going on at the beginning of the planning sub committee (the previous meeting). I can only imagine the call records when the ‘naughty step’ was in use. I’m at the criminal bar and can just imagine my application for ‘unused material’ - disclosure of same - if ever jw were a defendant !!! Or if prosecuting anyone same digging for different reasons.
Not sure anyone’s phone records of that night would be edifying though. Other than Alan the ‘member of the public’ who acquitted himself well and was actually helpful on a planning matter and helpful suggestions Re transport policy - in fact I think he did more work than anyone and with good humour too !

LookMoreCloselier · 07/02/2021 10:17

Fair enough maybe I shouldn't be surprised. Its depressing that people can behave in such a stupid manner and I'm sceptical really of most viral things!

Don't blame you for hoping it was fake, but I honestly don't think it is.
MyKingdomForACaramel · 07/02/2021 10:18

@wintermoths it’s so telling isn’t it? 😊

WestendVBroadway · 07/02/2021 10:19

I think I may need to rewatch the footage. Please don't pile on me, but I have to confess when I saw the video my immediate thought was that JW was the one being unprofessional not allowing the men to speak, and evicting them in a power hungry way.

HeronLanyon · 07/02/2021 10:21

From his behaviour I think I understand why Ab appears to have done only 6 months of a solicitors training contract (post qual) before becoming a self employed something or other. Hmm let’s hope he learns from this. When he cools down.

DinkyDaisy · 07/02/2021 10:21

Just watched the prequel to the viral meeting. Thanks, HeronLanyon for the link.
Great for background and getting to know the main characters!

TheFuckingDogs · 07/02/2021 10:21

I’m so glad other women agree with this! I watched the video at the behest of male friends, they all thought it was hilarious, my mind immediately went to the appalling behaviour of the men shouting and laughing her down

LApprentiSorcier · 07/02/2021 10:24

That's interesting, HeronLanyon - do you mean that, if a meeting like that were the subject of court proceedings, the prosecution/defence could demand that records of personal calls during the meeting be disclosed as evidence?

MyKingdomForACaramel · 07/02/2021 10:24

I think the sad thing is - they won’t learn from it. Shouty man is still behaving like a twat and pretending to be a solicitor.
“You have no authority” man is still defending his position.

My brother and best friend (who are both male), think those angry menfolk of Handforth Parish Council behaved appallingly and that JW is a hero! I don't know anyone IRL who thinks the men in that video had a leg to stand on at all.
MyKingdomForACaramel · 07/02/2021 10:26

As an aside - literally re-read JK Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy at the end of January and this video seriously reminds me of it!

trulydelicious · 07/02/2021 10:26

@Viviennemary

She wasn't elected

I agree. I bet there's more to this.

How come a council zoom meeting goes viral and makes the news?

LApprentiSorcier · 07/02/2021 10:28

How come a council zoom meeting goes viral and makes the news?

A politics student who watches local council meetings as a pastime saw this one, realised its potential, and released a highlights video on YouTube.

HenriettaHeffalump · 07/02/2021 10:29

I know...so many questions. If only there was a massive thread explaining it all 🤔.

pinkearedcow · 07/02/2021 10:30

What a bunch of bullying tossers they are and good on Jackie.

I wonder if they were elected to their posts or just slotted in because no one else stood as bigbluebus said.

Maybe we should all take a bit more interest in our Parish Councils.

HeronLanyon · 07/02/2021 10:30

LA If relevant yes. Every investigations dredges up loads of ‘stuff’ which a prosecutor might not choose to use. They have a duty to disclose stuff. It used which might harm their case or help the defence. But then there’s often loads of stuff ‘unused and undisclosed’ Defence can see it. If relevant then can be used. It was just what I thought when I saw phones in hands at start of the planning meeting (the previous meeting) and someone here using word ‘coup’ laughed inwardly at AB phone business visible on screen. Obviously all innocent is perfectly possible and likely of course ! Just made me laugh at how a humble parish council meeting was making me think

Misandry is alive and kicking, mind you

Yes, I was thinking of that book too - the bullying and petty mindedness was captured really well.
TheFuckingDogs · 07/02/2021 10:31

My husband agreed with me but like I said other male friends thought it was fine/funny
