Actresses - Feel so cross - ruined by plastic surgery

Thisisnotreallymyname · 06/02/2021 20:03

Feel so sad - been watching TV and why is it that women ( in the main ) feel the need to absolutely ruin their faces with fillers, Botox, face lifts, to the point where they look deformed, or like they are wearing shiny masks.
Felicity Kendal last night on Graham Norton, Fern Britton on Mastermind, Sally Thomsett on Pointless Celeb........
Do they not see what we see when they look in the mirror ?
I’ve nothing against PSurgery, but my God, please know when to stop !

IABU - they look fine
IANBU -they look awful .

not quite sure how many actual MRAs there are out there fighting for women to lose their own female identities and be merged with those of men

That wasn't particularly clear - I meant fighting to allow women to enjoy the same considerations and privileges as men by 'promoting' them to the 'superior' male status and not wanting them to be held down as automatically-assumed second-class humans.

LindyLou2020 · 06/02/2021 21:55

@RickiTarr

Mange tout, Rodders, mange tout.

😂🤣

Never heard of "de rigueur"? It's derived from French. Look it up, get educated, and stop taking the p**s and trying to look clever 🤣🤣🤣
wowier · 06/02/2021 21:55

Surely it's ok to talk about it though? Most celebs know not to google themselves.

What does talking about it mean? Does it mean:
  1. Let’s have a good old bitch about how horrific and awful they look tee hee!

Or

  1. Let’s promote/ support women on the basis of their talent and inherent self worth and move away from judging them only on their looks
SunshineCake · 06/02/2021 22:00

@gnomeisland

Actors. Female or male actors.
Embarrassingly try hard.

Of course it is. We're all effected by it. Standards of beauty are influenced by what the celebs do. Hence why getting lip fillers is as normal for so many 21 year olds as getting a haircut.
ThenCatoJumpedOut · 06/02/2021 22:02

I don’t even know who any of these people are Grin

But I don’t mind about people doing stuff to their face, it’s kind of fascinating (and their choice)

wowier · 06/02/2021 22:02

@Russellbrandshair I don't think either of this is right. It's ok to talk about why anyone chooses surgery & why it's mainly women & the pressure that puts on others. I work in a school, the girls all want bloody lip injections & butt ones.

VinylDetective · 06/02/2021 22:02

What does talking about it mean?

Maybe it means a discussion about how pressure on women in the public eye to erase the signs of ageing is yet another symptom of sexism. Maybe it means that the world we’re handing on to our daughters is every bit as bad as the one we came into. And if that’s what we really want.

LadyEloise · 06/02/2021 22:04

I just think it's such a shame that these female actors believe they have to do this to get work.
It's also sort of normalising a very odd look.
It often starts off very subtle and really improving how someone looks but it appears that it gets addictive and then people go too far.
"Raising the bar" too for ordinary women who don't have the financial resources to begin it.
SlightlyJaded I think most some of the women in that link have had work done.
I can't stand celebrities insisting that they've not had work done and it's all down to whatever cosmetic they are paid to promote, when they clearly have had work done.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 06/02/2021 22:04

Or we could just age. Why does ageing need solutions?

You only have to see the threads on here where people in their 40s or older refuse to be called middle aged and those in their 70s similarly consider 'old' or 'elderly' to be an unmitigated insult - rather than just a neutral statement of numerical fact and no indication whatsoever as to how you as an individual are living/thriving/struggling/behaving at that particular age. MN is appalling for ageism.

In the same way, we are now also told that 'actress' is an offensive term, because it is a specifically female term - and being/admitting to being female is apparently considered by the 'up-to-date' folk as an automatic insult and a slur, tantamount to acknowledging your own (imputed) very limited capabilities, as opposed to the boundless abilities of the superior default male members of your profession.

Figgygal · 06/02/2021 22:05

It’s Nicole Kidman I can’t believe how much she’s changed

Male artist here but Johnny rzeznick lead singer of goo goo dolls was beautiful and now his face is an utter shambles. Such a shame

overnightangel · 06/02/2021 22:05

I used to model a teeny bit (late 90s) & was naturally thin. No 6 pack though & never felt the need for one. Roll on ten yrs or so and for the first time I felt pressure to look a certain way. I felt bad after having my first dc that I didn't have "abs"

TatianaBis · 06/02/2021 22:06

It’s not just actresses it’s a plague taking over the country.

There are a lot of Stepford wives round here. One of my neighbours, who was naturally very attractive, has had fillers and Botox to the point of looking fishy.

I don’t understand why women who do this can’t see what a fright they look. That signs of ageing are so much less offputting than distorting and disfiguring your face.

What do they see in the mirror? Do they not see a fish looking back?

oakleaffy · 06/02/2021 22:07

Had to Google Felicity Kendall- only a still but ye gods- a gurning, grotesque parody of a once lovely face.
It looked zombie like.
My stepmum is 81 and looks more alive and vibrant in my opinion!

Crankley · 06/02/2021 22:08

I saw the photograph of Felicity Kendal and am sorry she did that to her own face. Same with plenty of other actors. Her neck and hands are crepey and really she looks every day of her 74 years. I've seen really old Hollywood actresses being interviewed and it looks like their face has been embalmed. There is barely any movement at all.

Obviously it's their choice and is probably born out of desperation but if it doesn't go well, their chances of getting acting parts presumably reduce to zero.

I also wonder whether this person can even speak?:

I'm an actor. At the moment, I would never have plastic surgery. At the moment, I quite like the extra character ageing is bringing to my face. At the moment, I still look good. For my age....

But god, it's really hard. So much of my career is based on how I look. I'm up for a film role next week. They're casting for the mother of a 20 year old. The casting brief is for a 30-40 yo woman...

I think what I'm saying is it's an insane industry, and it leads women to make insane choices.

wowier · 06/02/2021 22:08

@SlightlyJaded some of those women in your link have said no to surgery because needles are considered plastic surgery.

oakleaffy · 06/02/2021 22:09

Mum at 81 zero surgery on the far left at cemetery

But back to the actual question of the thread, it's up to anybody to do what they like with their own face; but you just never seem to see anybody who objectively looks better or even as good as they did prior to the surgery.

Baffles me as to why anybody would choose to pay a lot of money and undergo risky surgery in order to look (in almost every case) much, much worse.

wowier · 06/02/2021 22:10

Why do they do this?! I like seeing different aged women on tv. It's like when it's normal in films for a 60 yr old to have a 30 yr old wife/partner. Why can't they be the same age!!!

Talking about how pressure to have cosmetic procedures is affecting young women is a good thing to talk about.

But that’s not what this thread is- it’s a point and laugh “ew she looks gross !” thing. That’s fine if you’d be happy to have that same attitude directed at YOUR looks but I’m guessing that most in this thread wouldn’t like it if someone told them they looked awful/ hideous/ ruined etc

I think if it’s good work you don’t notice it!
