To think not everyone washes their hands after every single wee when in their own home?

Anything other than a wee, yes of course.

But washing hands after every bloody wee is overkill in my opinion

'This is beside the point. It's basic hygiene, if people are not washing their hands enough they will spread all kinds of things.'

'What things?'

Bacteria, viruses..

StanfordPines · 06/02/2021 09:39

@Toorapid

OFGS,Typhoid Mary wasn't to do with handwashing.

Of course, everyone should be washing their hands lots, but let's not make stuff up.

Making stuff up like no men wash their hands when there isn’t a woman to check on them?

And, yes Typhoid Mary, wasn’t about hand washing but about how you can spread illness without being ill yourself.

Keratinsmooth · 06/02/2021 09:41

I think people have forgotten their biology lessons. Wash your hands people, your bacteria from your vagina and anus doesn’t miraculously turn into fairy dust because you are at home.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 06/02/2021 09:41

Good grief. Really? That’s revolting. Even if you’re single and no one else every enters your home.

Januaryissodull · 06/02/2021 09:42

It really is nothing to do with only Covid either.

People should be washing their hands after the toilet, when they get home and if at all possible before they eat or prepare food.

Tal45 · 06/02/2021 09:43

I'm all for a bit of dirt but I thought everyone washed their hands after going toilet. Well apart from maybe in the middle of the night when you know you'll get up in the morning and wash them. The idea of someone wiping their foo foo and then making me a drink or food without washing their hands is gross.

ElectraBlue · 06/02/2021 09:46

I was my hands every time I use the loo. Basic hygiene and respect for others...

Jeremyironseverything · 06/02/2021 09:46

Ew that's gross. Should be washed everytime.

Let's take the argument that you don't touch the wee, presumably you flush and that's been touched by someone who's probably just wiped their bum after a poo.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/02/2021 09:49

Yes basic hygiene , no wonder we had to have so many wash your hands ads here
You person who used the toilet before you maybe just wiped there arse, then used the flush
Bacteria isn't visible surely we all know that.

HappydaysArehere · 06/02/2021 09:53

During the day I always wash my hands after a wee. When I get up at night I don’t until the morning.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/02/2021 09:53

And, yes Typhoid Mary, wasn’t about hand washing but about how you can spread illness without being ill yourself.
And the poster I was responding to said she didn't wash her hands and was never ill herself, she could be asymptomatic with Covid or anything else.

How typhoid can be spread, there are various ways including:
^Fecal-oral transmission route
Most people in developed countries pick up typhoid bacteria while they're traveling. Once they have been infected, they can spread it to others through the fecal-oral route.^

This means that Salmonella typhi is passed in the feces and sometimes in the urine of infected people. If you eat food that has been handled by someone who has typhoid fever and who hasn't washed carefully after using the toilet, you can become infected.

FlyingLoo · 06/02/2021 09:53

@Toorapid I have three boys and as they’ve gotten older, they would never use outside toilets as they say the men’s always stink. I always come home and wash my hands when I’ve been out, ever since I can remember and have taught my boys to do this too. And yes they they do this whether I’m watching or not! All it took was putting the plug in the sink whilst they washed their hands and showing them the dirt that came off after we’d been out a few times.

Mango101 · 06/02/2021 09:59

Guessing that the infection risk is much higher if you engage in (oral) sex or keep pets. Do the fastidious hand washers deny themselves these ?

Mingkong · 06/02/2021 10:00

@Mummadeze

No, I don’t even wash my hands when I go to a toilet in a bar or restaurant sometimes. I have always been like this and I think it is why I rarely get ill. My grandmother used to say ‘a bit of dirt never hurt anyone’.
Does anyone consider anyone other than themselves ? Ever ? People are so fu*king selfish it makes me irate !!!
Useranon20 · 06/02/2021 10:01

I won’t lie, I’ve had a wee and not washed my hands, but usually this is only ever at around 3am or 4am and I’m half asleep, and go directly back to bed.

Next morning I’m up, wash hands, brush teeth and shower before doing anything.

During the day I always wash my hands after using the loo. I also wash my hands before preparing any food and I also wash my hands if I’ve touched anyone, for instance DH might ask me to scratch his back. We don’t have pets, because I’d be washing them constantly if we did.

Mingkong · 06/02/2021 10:01

This is so true. Unbelievable the ignorance of people on here . Don't get it !
CounsellorTroi · 06/02/2021 10:03

I do after every single wee. I have been wiping my vag fffs. Disgusting not to.

Washing your hands after using the toilet isn’t the sign of fastidiousness. It’s basic level hygiene. I wash my hands after using the loo because I don’t understand why you wouldn’t. It doesn’t mean I’m spraying every surface with anti bac.
HappydaysArehere · 06/02/2021 10:04

Have an image of someone going to the toilet, not washing their hands and then making a sandwich. It reminds me of someone I once knew who didn’t bother washing her hand after a wee in a public toilet but was really houseproud. Everything so tidy and perfect but probably not washing hands at home.

Useranon20 · 06/02/2021 10:05

DH washes his hands every time he uses the loo. He showers twice a day too. He’s very clean.

This thread has put me off eating at other people’s homes lol!

WithIcePlease · 06/02/2021 10:06

I think it's a good habit not because I'm covered in new bacteria after every wee but simply because it means we wash our hands regularly throughout the day

SteelMack · 06/02/2021 10:07

Those of you that say you just wash with water and not soap, or just do a quick rinse under the tap ..... think this through:

Your hands have been picking up all sorts of germs/bacteria anyway through normal daily activities
You go to the toilet, touching handles, toilet lid, toilet flush etc., therefore picking up more germs
You run your hands under the tap, achieving nothing other than wetting your still-germy hands
You dry your hands on your family hand-towel (aka wipe the germs from your hands all over the towel)
The next person that uses the bathroom goes through the whole same routine, except they are actually hygienic so they wash their hands properly with soap and water. They then dry their hands on the same towel you've just added all your germs too.
They're the ones who then get sick and it's your fault

lynsey91 · 06/02/2021 10:07

I always do. I thought everyone did.

Anyway why say "every single wee" like most people are going 20 or more times a day? How many times does the average person wee a day? I go about 4 times so hardly excessive washing of hands is it? I do, obviously, wash my hands other times too

ElizaLaLa · 06/02/2021 10:08

Everytime the loo flushes, germs are propelled upto 2 metres, so all over you, the loo seat, flush etc.
Well by your own admission you are COVERED in shit so maybe you should be stripping cleaning and scrubbing head to toe after every toilet flush. Those germs are in your clothes, in your hair, on your face, they don’t magically go away with a wash of your hands.
You filthy unwashed are revoltingly dirty people
WASH YOIR HANDS

Mmm pooy particles in your hair after every flush, you’re just as filthy

This is why you should close the lid before you flush 🙄
