To think not everyone washes their hands after every single wee when in their own home?

Anything other than a wee, yes of course.

But washing hands after every bloody wee is overkill in my opinion

OP posts:
StanfordPines · 06/02/2021 09:06

And perhaps the reason the soap in the men’s doesn’t need replacing as often is that, as a rule, there are less male staff in schools, not that all men don’t wash their hands.

Baddit · 06/02/2021 09:07

You've not died yet, but how are those threadworms coming along OP?

Blabla81 · 06/02/2021 09:07

It’s not necessarily getting wee on your hands, it’s more the touching of the flush afterwards. Which someone else could have touched after wiping their poo butt. I’m thinking children here.

BigPaperBag · 06/02/2021 09:07

Nah, not a wee.

LegoPirateMonkey · 06/02/2021 09:07

@Trinacham yes, I’ve been in public toilets and seen some horrible things but aren’t we talking about people’s homes? Even the non hand washers on here mostly say they wash hands in public toilets.

Toorapid · 06/02/2021 09:08

@StanfordPines

I can tell you that your husbands and sons never wash their hands outside the home when you don't have control.

What utter sexist nonsense. My husband is a fully grown adult and as such doesn’t need me to tell him to wash his hands. Perhaps your husband and sons behave that way but that is not indicative of all men.

Did you read what I said? The soap very rarely needs replacing in the male staff or student toilets where I work. Nothing to do with my husband or sons (although, in the real world, I don't expect their workplaces are any different).
pinkearedcow · 06/02/2021 09:09

Don't be silly. Who would want to live with a man they had to "control" to follow basic hygeine?

Trinacham · 06/02/2021 09:10
@Trinacham yes, I’ve been in public toilets and seen some horrible things but aren’t we talking about people’s homes? Even the non hand washers on here mostly say they wash hands in public toilets.
So do you think the people who do it away from home wouldn't do the same at home? I can't believe they'd be really unhygienic one minute and then be really hygienic the next!

Mummadeze · 06/02/2021 09:10

No, I don’t even wash my hands when I go to a toilet in a bar or restaurant sometimes. I have always been like this and I think it is why I rarely get ill. My grandmother used to say ‘a bit of dirt never hurt anyone’.

StanfordPines · 06/02/2021 09:10

You said @Toorapid I can tell you that your husbands and sons never wash their hands outside the home when you don't have control.

You asserted that all men and boys don’t wash their hands if their mother or wife isn’t there to check.

Mummadeze · 06/02/2021 09:11

Am talking pre-Covid however

ineedaholidaynow · 06/02/2021 09:11

@Mummadeze have you ever wondered whether you have made anyone else ill with your lack of hygiene

JS87 · 06/02/2021 09:12

Does everyone practise infection control when washing hands. Remember if you touch the tap with dirty hands it’s then dirty. If you use your freshly washed hands to turn the tap off they can then pick the bacteria up again. You should be soaping the tap as you wash or turn it off with an elbow/ wrist.

Toorapid · 06/02/2021 09:12

You said *@Toorapid* I can tell you that your husbands and sons never wash their hands outside the home when you don't have control.

You asserted that all men and boys don’t wash their hands if their mother or wife isn’t there to check.

Sigh, it wasn't entirely serious but there is a massive difference in male and female soap consumption.
Januaryissodull · 06/02/2021 09:12

@Toorapid so because of the soap situation in your particular workplace, you are concluding that men all over the UK do not wash their hands? Ok.

Reading this thread I can completely see how diseases spread. A lot of people simply have no understanding or don't care about very basic hygiene.

LegoPirateMonkey · 06/02/2021 09:12

@Trinacham that’s pretty much what the OP is claiming - she washes hands in public but not at home. It’s really baffling to me. It’s just habit, surely? If I get up in the middle of the night half asleep, I put the lid down to flush and wash and dry my hands all in the dark as no need for lights on which would jolt me awake because the routine is so instinctive.

Puzzler333 · 06/02/2021 09:12

But it does. "dirt" causes most illnesses. And it's not just you it can hurt. You not washing your hands spreads bacteria to surfaces which other people use. Including those with weakened immune systems. People die from "dirt." Your attitude is disgusting.
Blabla81 · 06/02/2021 09:13

Plus, the more I can drum the importance of hand washing after using the toilet into my children, the more confident I can feel that they will be doing it at school - not so clean toilets and not so germ free. Understatement.

pinkearedcow · 06/02/2021 09:13

Oh well, that proves it conclusively! None of our DHs or DSs wash their hands out of the house!

SimonJT · 06/02/2021 09:14

@Toorapid

I can tell you that your husbands and sons never wash their hands outside the home when you don't have control.

I work in school and my role, among other things, involves buying soap. Don't need to bother for the male toilets, they have magic soap that lasts forever Grin

You may have chosen a dirty partner, you may have chosen to raise your son to be dirty, that doesn’t mean other people have.

Well, maybe but this is my third school and I currently manage 4 sites. It's the same at all of them.

I know it's unpalatable and maybe it's not true everywhere, but it's certainly not a one off.

StanfordPines · 06/02/2021 09:16

To the ‘urine is sterile’ people.
Would you touch the inside of a urinal with your bare hands and then put your fingers in your mouth? The only thing that touches a urinal is wee after all.

Blabla81 · 06/02/2021 09:18

@Mummadeze

So it’s this sort of attitude that some children learn from. Awful. This can make other children and adults sick.
MooshWoosh · 06/02/2021 09:18

Your family will have touched the flush after number twos before washing their hands. Even if you just wee - you are still touching that handle! Surely if you wash after number twos then the same logic would apply for having a wee?

SewingWarriorQueen76 · 06/02/2021 09:19

So do you wash your hands before you prepare food? How many times have you had food poisoning?
