Now, i'm very respectful to Captain Tom. A wonderful man, very sad news this week about his death. AIBU though to suggest this is a crass thing to do and not a worthwhile tribute?

All while i've read numerous accounts on here and elsewhere (including my own local facebook page) of people being harangued for not going out to clap the other night. It all seems to have gone too far. The poor man wouldn't have wanted this.

Oh good god.

WombatStewForTea · 05/02/2021 19:02

You have to admit that's some serious skill however crass it is

Nighthawker · 05/02/2021 19:02

YANBU. It is crass attention seeking.

Topseyt · 05/02/2021 19:05

That sounds grotesque. I wish people would just leave his memory and his family in peace now.

The lady is clearly very talented, yes. I think this is in very poor taste though.

Tribute my arse. Anything for social media.

Redcrayons · 05/02/2021 19:07

I very much admire the skill behind it.

A touch Attention seeking, but very skilful.

She’s very talented but this is 100% self promotion.

littlepattilou · 05/02/2021 19:23

I think it's really good. Can't anyone do ANYthing without being called crass and attention-seeking? Confused

littlepattilou · 05/02/2021 19:24

I mean so what if it's for social media likes?? Most people post stuff for attention and 'likes' whether they admit it or not.

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 05/02/2021 19:25

I don’t think anyone should be horrible here.
The lady has autism, and has used her talent to try to honour Captain Tom in the way she sees fit. And how is it actually different from a talented artist painting a portrait of him?

I know a person with autism who has a similar talent for make up. I don’t think we should run it down as a skill or look down our noses. Or cast aspersions on this lady’s motives.

Let’s not be unkind here. It’s a bit of a bandwagon. But I think her intentions are likely to be genuine, and none of us want to shit on someone who’s trying to do a nice thing or be arseholes, do we?

Icecreamsoda99 · 05/02/2021 19:26

People who are saying it's okay, if your dad or grandad had just died would you like people making themselves up to look like him?

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 05/02/2021 19:26

So are people saying you can do what you like if you're autistic?
Bit offensive for set the bar so low for people with autism imo.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 05/02/2021 19:29

I think its crass but she obviously doesnt see it that way. I think outpourings of grief on fb are a bit tasteless too but that doesnt stop others finding comfort that way.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/02/2021 19:30

@CaramelCandle

It also says she has autism. Maybe that is why her tribute isn't in the best taste.
Maybe she’s just ridiculous.
user1467048527 · 05/02/2021 19:31

I would hate to have someone make themselves up as me. So, no, I don’t like this as a tribute at all.

TinyCake · 05/02/2021 19:32

The article says she has Autism so I'm being kind and thinking it was well intentioned.
But I would be horrified if someone did a tribute like that for any of my family members.

I saw this the other day. It's mortifying what people will do

So what is it , other than attention seeking?
Moondust001 · 05/02/2021 19:34

It might be crass. It might be attention seeking. She might have autism. It's the Daily Mail who chose to make something of it though. Otherwise she'd have been two dozen likes on social media. I'm assuming that the Daily Mail ought to have known this is offensive and in very poor taste. If that was a member of my family being parodied in this way for millions, I'd rip them a new one.

TinyCake · 05/02/2021 19:34

Not saying she can do what she likes, just that as I don't know how her Autism presents I am being kind and saying maybe that has some influence on why she wouldn't think some people would find it distasteful. It might not but I don't know.
byebyeboyee · 05/02/2021 19:36

I feel the fact she's topless is a bit worse for some reason
