Call me nosey but at 25 I’d not quite got into the sector I’m in now and at 35, I’d already started on my career path. Went to university, had my kids afterwards, but was done by the time I was 30yrs old. I’ll start £19,000 and £30,000. I will admit that it has accelerated since. But more interested in those crucial child rearing years between 25-35.

@MrsMattMurdock

Wow all these people on £40k+ in their twenties. So glad I didn't earn that much I would have been very irresponsible with it! Fair play to you all
I was pretty dull in my 20s and saved all of my bonuses. I worked too hard to have the time to spend it, and spent a lot of time travelling with work giving me even less time. Plus I was on a lot more than most of my friends for various reasons which meant I was still going on cheap holidays, fairly cheap nights out, etc.
Zebraaa · 05/02/2021 14:37

Great, ANOTHER one of these threads to make people feel shit about themselves and how much they earn 👍🏼

DisgruntledPelican · 05/02/2021 14:39

I am in vaguely the same type of job, although I have moved from private to public sector.

At 25 I was on £23k
At 35 I was on £36k.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 05/02/2021 14:40

At 25 - £0, I was backpacking around the world.

At 35 - £30,000.

MrsSimonBasset · 05/02/2021 14:40

[flowers]@Tehmina23 That sounds tough.

afrikat · 05/02/2021 14:44

I was insanely sensible in my 20s and it's paid dividends later on. I overpaid my mortgage and upped my pension provision.

My career tanked when I got engaged as management assumed I would have children so I started to be managed out. I didn't actually mind and made just enough noise to get a decent redundancy payout but I underestimated how long it would take me to get back to previous earnings while also having DC. But a large part of that was the global economic crisis coinciding nicely with my change in career/having kids.

Freshprincess · 05/02/2021 14:55

25 - low £20ks
35 - £40k
45 - after two DCs and redundancy £22k

Now almost 50, £35

Moral, don’t go part time for DCs if you want to maintain your earning power.

Forrasee · 05/02/2021 14:59

25 - £24k
30 - £50K

Hope to be on around £80k by 35.

Public sector, but London. No plans to have kids before then.

PlanDeRaccordement · 05/02/2021 15:00

Not going to list numbers, but my salary steadily climbed. But then that was my choice because I only took 12 weeks maternity with each DC. I went right back to my job and carried on.

Halfwreckedbykids · 05/02/2021 15:02

25 =45k
35 = 130k
Gave it up when i had my twins at 39, had 3 under 2 1/2
Thought it was a fantastic idea but kids are harder than work was and really missed the wage

I know what you mean. I think a lot of people who earn below average wages either aren't on mumsnet or haven't posted on this thread.

I don't think the wages posted on here are typical everywhere.

ExConstance · 05/02/2021 15:04

this is an interesting one!
I was earning £10k as a qualified solicitor in local government at age 25 in 1981. The year before I got £6k when I qualified in private practice. I lived in a terraced house in Walthamstow.

10 years later I was a partner in a legal firm in the South West and getting around £40k plus a company BMW nice house in the country with paddocks and a horse. - a lot changed in 10 years!

eurochick · 05/02/2021 15:04

25 - around 12k (trainee lawyer)

35 - around 100-120k (senior but non-partner level lawyer). I can't remember exactly.

whatswithtodaytoday · 05/02/2021 15:05

25 - around 24k
35 - around 35k, pretty good for my crappy-paid industry

But I didn't have a child until I was 36. I'm now in 30k part-time.
