Call me nosey but at 25 I’d not quite got into the sector I’m in now and at 35, I’d already started on my career path. Went to university, had my kids afterwards, but was done by the time I was 30yrs old. I’ll start £19,000 and £30,000. I will admit that it has accelerated since. But more interested in those crucial child rearing years between 25-35.

25 - £45k ish
35 - £75k
45 (now) - £100k+

I had DC at 34 and 36, went to 3 days pw after DC1 and increased to 4 days pw after DC2. I'm now back full time (investment banking). My salary did stagnate whilst I was part time and only really started picking up again once I went back FT.

FieldOverFence · 05/02/2021 15:33

25 about 28K
35 about 70K

oblada · 05/02/2021 15:35

I was working for a charity at 25 - 22k
Then had my first child and 3 more after that.
I'm 35 now and on 45k. On mat leave and looking to move to a role ideally on 50k.
Legal sector.

polexiaaphrodesia · 05/02/2021 15:39

25 around £35k
35 around £68k (work a 4 day week and had 2 years of mat leave in that time DCs at 29 and 32)

I don’t know about the motives of others, but I’m trying to gauge whether having children earlier or later is better for your career.

It depends on two things Firstly, the cost of childcare. If you have family providing free childcare then you can probably have a child and continue working on any salary. If you have no family support (we didn't) then you need to earn enough to cover your childcare costs otherwise it can feel as if you are working for nothing. When the DC were small our childcare bill was over double our mortgage (NE so housing is cheap) and half my salary but I earnt above average working PT. If you keep working through the baby years you are in a much better position to keep your career going. Even if your salary stagnates for a bit you are buiding experience.

The main factor that will affect your earnings will be if the father of the child is willing to do half the childcare. I'd recommend not having a child with a man who thinks his career is more important than yours and that he can't reduce hours to work PT or work shifted hours so he can do either the drop off or pickup at childcare. Sadly men who are willing to do their fair share are rare.

25 roughly 24000
Early 30s about the same but I work part time.

MaverickDanger · 05/02/2021 15:41

At 25, I was back at uni studying but had been earning about 30k the year before that.

I’m now 31 and on 39k with a pay rise due to take me over 40k in April. I’m on mat leave now.

Hoping to be on 45k by 35.

kikisparks · 05/02/2021 15:48

25- about £20k
33- about £40k

No children yet, if I’m lucky and IVF works my crucial child rearing years will be in my late 30s.

SAHM all that time and more. Still am at 40. I did work part time in a care home for three years and reached the dizzying heights of min wage though Sad

wonkylegs · 05/02/2021 16:08

@ 25 - nothing I was in my final year at uni

@35 - £7k I'd just started my own practice part time, lost a huge chunk of the year to a baby loss and frankly it was a bit of a shit year.

However in between I had worked up to £45k pa plus benefits (health insurance & decent pension) and had been offered a directorship starting at £70kpa unfortunately I didn't want the commute (It would have meant DH & I never saw the kids) would find the international travel tricky and needed more flexibility than the job could give.

I now earn more in my own practice than that paltry £7k but not back up to those levels however I work flexibly, part time (reducing childcare costs & meaning I can spend time with the kids) and only take on projects I want to do, which has been a godsend this past 12 months.

EasterIssland · 05/02/2021 16:13

25-£24k
33- dc , took 6m off
36-56k

Dogonahottinroof · 05/02/2021 16:14

At 25 I earned £30K (30 Years ago). A very decent salary.
At 30 I earned £16k- gone to be a teacher- education isn't a big earner. Our childcare was more than my take-home pay but it was a shared cost.

I am 55 and I earn £100k ish

MrsKoala · 05/02/2021 16:22

At 25 I’d just left uni, as I went when I was 21 and was earning £13k (2002). At 35 I was earning £24k in a call centre (2012). However I had a better job at £38k when I was 32 but in the 2009 crash my role was made redundant and pretty much ceased to exist so it meant admin temping and call centre work. I gave up at 35 to have the kids. (This was central London so not sure if region skews things)

saiditbetterthanme · 05/02/2021 16:22

25: 10,400

FooFighter99 · 05/02/2021 16:23
