It's teenage to think glasses are sexy??!

I hated them as a teenager - have only come to appreciate them as a Man!

I love M&S too. We (me and my mum and maybe my DSs) think its a day out to go to the very big one 15 miles down the road from us - how sad is that!

They have a fab coffee shop too so we even have lunch there too.

The cakes are lovely - they just taste less manufactured and more homemade than any of the other supermarkets.

I like that all their tea and coffee is Fair Trade.

It just seems better quality although you do pay for the privelage. I try not go in more than once every couple of months and then keep very quiet about how much it all cost.

Squiffy · 01/11/2007 17:08

the bank I work in is next door to an M&S with a huge food hall.

I am still a size 18, a year after having DD.

I somehow suspect these two facts are not entirely uncorrelated.

boo64 · 01/11/2007 19:16

UDad - not only do you like 40 somethings but you like specs wearers (mine are just like those too). Music to my ears!

UnquietDad · 01/11/2007 21:22

I think it's a Gillian Anderson thing. That woman is sex in spex.

marthaboo · 01/11/2007 21:24

UD, thanks for enlightening me as to what "crisp glasses" are (with illustrations, to boot) That first pair are like mine, and I'm almost 40, and I shop in M&S...though, sadly, I am never to be seen in anything bearing pinstripes.

Pruners, I hated my glasses when I was a teenager (mind you, I did have NHS ones). In fact I missed a lot of buses because I was too vain to put them on. But now I do think glasses are sexy...yet I mostly wear contact lenses. People always tell me I look clever with my glasses on (presumably I look like a halfwit without them).

UnquietDad · 01/11/2007 21:27

But glasses these days - new one, anyway - are made to look so much more stylish and sexy. Remember those horrible big plastic monsters people wore in the 80s? Even 90s Hugh Grant/4 Weddings style look horribly dated now.

marthaboo · 01/11/2007 21:29

I had some huge black and white ones when I went to University - you could barely see my face; it was all glasses. One term and I discovered the "boys don't make passes..." saying was true. Got a Christmas job, saved up for contact lenses, never looked back

I was getting back into X-Files on ftn on freeview when the plug got pulled! I now have to resort to naughty copyright-infringing websites!

marthaboo · 01/11/2007 21:36

Scully's gorgeous. I used to like Mulder but I've decided he has an oddly-shaped face. Keep meaning to watch that sex thing on Channel 5 - Californication?

We had some X-Files videos but I gave them to the charrideee shop.

YABU - it is no better than Waitrose!

paulaplumpbottom · 01/11/2007 23:41

I buy my grocerys at local shops, butcher's bakers greengrocers, family run grocers etc. I find they always have the best stuff. Even better than M&S

sunnydelight · 02/11/2007 03:09

Nooooooooooo! I'm now sitting here (in Sydney) CRAVING M&S food which of course I can't get - and knowing that because it's the middle of the night for you guys I won't even get any sympathy replies

You don't really get ready meals here and although I quite like cooking and the fresh ingredients are fab, it was so nice to be able to pick up something from their cafe range and have a yummy dinner at home with zero effort. When they opened a food only outlet at Brighton station (which DH passed on his way home every night) my cup runneth over...........

claireybang · 02/11/2007 15:20

If I ever want a ready meal, I'll go to m&s. They don't have that ick aftertaste that all the others seem to.

Sunshinemummy · 02/11/2007 15:22

I love M&S but Waitrose as well. M&S Chinese Takeaway Crispy Chilli Beef and Singapore Noodles are definitely the best.

nappyaddict · 03/11/2007 00:16

they never have that god damn chocolate pudding

boo64 · 03/11/2007 18:27

uh oh unquiet - my mother in law thinks I'm the spitting image of Gillian Anderson....but luckily I'm not a 40 something yet so Mrs Unquiet needn't worry!

Raided M&S today and bought loads of fab Cook range stuff - I love it! Lazy decent food.
