I love M&S food too and always end up spending far too much in there.

ScottishMummy · 31/10/2007 16:08

ah but i am partial to the Macon village

hifi · 31/10/2007 17:30

bit peeved at mo as they have "improved" recipe for childrens cottage pie and dd wont eat it now.

NorthernLurker · 31/10/2007 17:30

I love M&S - but I wish they would start doing the chocolate filled pancakes again instead of just the blinking lemon ones!!!!

NorthernLurker · 31/10/2007 17:31

hifi - dd2 doesn't like the gravy that comes with the Yorkshire pudding meal and so I have the same problem with that

hifi · 31/10/2007 17:36

it was the only easy meal i did for her, she wont eat any veg, no potatoes in any for either, i could trick her with the cottage pie.

superwitch · 31/10/2007 17:53

Just had poached salmon and dauphinoise potatoes yum yum

Tomorrow night macaroni cheese with wiltshire ham hock - it looks lovely.

love the food, hate the 'food porn' adverts, though they do make me hungry so i suppose the advertisers are doing their job properly

NKF · 31/10/2007 22:09

Their fruit is the best but, overall, Waitrose is better than anything.

smeeinit · 31/10/2007 22:12

dare i add to this thread at the risk of being shot down for boasting!! and say yes indeed marks' food is by far the best and i do most of my shopping there. the bread is delicous!

LucifersLuckyUnderpants · 31/10/2007 22:13

'its not just food, its M&S food'. it is just food! unless there is something they put in it that they are not telling us about

Must admit their sushi is nice

smeeinit · 31/10/2007 22:16

although i reeeeealy love m&s food i ahve to say that my bro in laws sister ( ) works at a salad packing place and tells me that all the salad that are packed are the same just different bags, i.e morrisons, aldi and asda are the same salad as m&s just more expensive and in diffrent bags! ALLEDGEDLY!!

peachygirl · 31/10/2007 22:17

Gastropub range is excellent. DH loves the the meatballs. They come with a portion of potatoes that is big enough to split into two, so we have them for the next nights meal too

boo64 · 31/10/2007 22:19

Perpetual - practically every night is ready meal night in our house I must confess.

Love their bakery counter (we are lucky enough to have one!) - fresh croissants and cookies there are yum.
Their fruit is always so much nicer than Waitrose too.
Bring back the strawberry cheesecake though.

laura032004 · 31/10/2007 22:24

smeeinit - I think the sell by dates on M&S foods are more stringent that other supermarkets though, so the salad etc is always fresher. Be interesting to know if this really is the case though.

laura032004 · 31/10/2007 22:26

Might have to start doing more shopping there soon. Have a bad habit of not eating when DH isn't around, and he's going on a 3 wk course soon At least I'd be eating then, even if it's a ready meal. Otherwise I survive on toast and chocolate!

Do Waitrose do good ready meals? I've only really bought 'ingredients' from there.

catsmother · 31/10/2007 22:31

I think M&S food is pretty much on a par with Waitrose stuff, but luckily for me I don't live that close to either or my regular bills would skyrocket.

IM (past) E, their Count On Us range is head and shoulders above all other "diet" food 'cos it actually tastes appetising and is a decent sized portion.

WitchTwoOh · 31/10/2007 22:31

i'd really recommend the gastropub boeuf bourgignon, it's good value in that for £6.99 (or maybe £5.99) it feeds me, dh and dd with just the addition of some frozen peas. we stock up when they do their buy one get one half price.

WitchTwoOh · 31/10/2007 22:32

but i do find it absolutely excruciatingly expensive for general 'stuff'.

MrsJohnCusack · 31/10/2007 22:32

the thing that I most often hear expats say they miss is M&S food

I really miss it, especially now picnic season is here

squishie · 31/10/2007 22:34

processed crap dressed up with adverts.

WitchTwoOh · 31/10/2007 22:37

it's not processed crap, though, is it? it's processed M&S crap, you dreadful killjoy.

Lazarou · 31/10/2007 22:40

I'm not keen. It's expensive and ordinary. Lots of packaging as well. Apart from that I love it!

francagoestohollywood · 31/10/2007 22:41

Have spent an indecent amount of money at M&S this afternoon and I blame this thread.

MrsJohnCusack · 31/10/2007 22:42

it's DELICIOUS processed crap

actually, you can't really get decent ready meals here in NZ and I do eat better as a result

but I would still have loved an M&S picnic to take to the beach yesterday
