Mr tumble drama

So old CBeebies presenter (Sarah-Jane if anyone remembers the olden days of CBeebies) is in the newspapers saying she was best friends with mr tumble but he completely ghosted her after cbeebies sacked her (without even letting her know) when she did an underwear photo for animal rights.
Now mr tumbles mum is in the papers saying its a load of rubbish.
I used to see a lot of CBeebies back then and realised I never noticed that Sarah-Jane disappeared or read about this at the time.
AIBU to think they were a bit harsh and that mr tumble shouldn’t have ignored her?

@PeskyRooks

I saw Mr Tumble at Camp Bestival and he came across as a bit of a nob to be honest.
Just before the naked on a plate debacle happened, Sarah-Jane was at our local wolf sanctuary (which has since closed) for a "meet the star of CBBC" promotional event for young children. My son was around the age where he wanted to meet her, so off we went.

Honestly, she was awful. She was "only there" to sell signed photographs - wouldn't even let the toddlers have their photos taken with her - and CDs of her music (?!). Little children were upset, parents were cross, and I'm pretty sure a fair few complaints went into the sanctuary, who'd hired her to draw the crowds to their open day, about her abrupt rudeness towards little ones who were, after all, her bread and butter (so to speak).

My son, who liked their programme, refused to go anywhere near her - which could have been shyness, but might also have been because he didn't want her to tell him off for "interrupting" her signing the bog-standard headshots and CD cases the way she did pretty much every other small child who approached her whilst we were in the vicinity Angry They were mostly all too young to understand that their ideal image of Sarah-Jane was not necessarily her in real life, and a lot got to the point of tears because of her rudeness towards them. I remember explaining to my son (because we can all have an 'off' day) that perhaps she was just having a bad day... or had a headache from the sun... or (and I didn't say this) was simply a spoilt, arrogant cow who thought she was God's Gift to CBBC, because she worked with Justin Fletcher (who was a known figure before she came along). Afterwards, every time she appeared on screen, my son would change the channel or wander off to do something else - and although he remembers 'Mr Tumble' with fond 16 year old nostalgia Grin if I mention Sarah-Jane Honeywell... "Who?!", is the puzzled answer. Which probably says it all about why she's dredging up something that happened a long time ago (did Richard Bacon voluntarily bring up his sacking from 'Blue Peter', I wonder...?!) - trying to stay relevant now that her own children, by a bit-part 'Hollyoaks' actor, are the age her once adoring young fans were.

And yes, I've heard Justin Fletcher's a bit of a pompous "believes his own hype" sort, too... and they do say that like is drawn to like, don't they? Sad

As someone mentioned him - did anyone else ever think that the relationship between Sportacus and Stephanie was a bit creepy?

Waspnest · 03/02/2021 19:58

no, that was a different show, Lazy Town.

Ah thank you.

gingganggooleywotsit · 03/02/2021 20:00

@SummerHouse 😂😂 good one!

poundoflard · 03/02/2021 20:00

@x2boys

I've always said Andy and Fatima have exactly the same faces, tho one is more manly than the other 😉

Mombie · 03/02/2021 20:00

Right, whoever shagged Mr Tumble just needs to confirm if he does that Mr Tumble laugh when he is ‘happy’.

AndddddHerewegoagain · 03/02/2021 20:01

My friend went to acting school with mr tumble aka Justin. He was an absolute player by all accounts. Different girl every few days 🤢🤢🤢

RaspberryCoulis · 03/02/2021 20:01

God I hated Sarah Jane and her squeaky annoyingness.

Mr Tumble can do no wrong.

00100001 · 03/02/2021 20:01

@VelveteenChair

The Tweenies was ruined for me when I discovered that Jake grew up to be Mr Tumble.
He's also Shaun the Sheep
BLToutanowhere · 03/02/2021 20:06

I wonder if he does the Shaun/Timmy baaaa when he's excitable.

For that mental image, no thanks is needed.

eyeblob · 03/02/2021 20:09

I've saw Mr Bloom at an event, he is nice looking and was lovely with the kids. Isn't he from Truro in Cornwall or perhaps I imagined that?

DoreenWinkings · 03/02/2021 20:10

You know that he is his mother. Like Norman Bates. Only creepier.

NotBrigitteBardot · 03/02/2021 20:10

That's ruined Shaun the Sheep for me - some things are better not known

I don't believe this for a second but it made me laugh so much - thanks for that Grin
peak2021 · 03/02/2021 20:11

Two adults have fallen out with each other. No one else seems to have been harmed as a result. None of our business surely?

BrumBoo · 03/02/2021 20:12

@DoreenWinkings

I was actually thinking his mother may be Mrs Brown. Seemed more fitting somehow!
BrumBoo · 03/02/2021 20:13

He's also Shaun the Sheep

And some TootToot vehicles. The horror when trying to tidy up, half asleep, and Mr Tumble starts shouting 'I'm a car!' randomly at you....

GoryGilmore · 03/02/2021 20:15

I was a bit disappointed when I googled Robert the Robot and saw him without all his makeup and robot gear on. I quite fancy him in Justin’s House and whilst Steve Kynman looks like a perfectly normal, nice bloke, he wasn’t what I had imagined underneath all the shiny stuff!

And we love Justin in our house! I’ve never met him but prefer to believe the people who say that he is lovely. His shows have given a lot of happiness and fun to our DC.

TheFaithfulBorderBinliner · 03/02/2021 20:17

Sounds like Mr Tumble is a bit broken by fame.
He was very, very popular here ten years ish ago(possibly longer). I knew camera crew people t that time worked with him & adored him.
One mumsnetter on a very old thread met Mr Maker in a nightclub, there was much discussion about his googly eyes and the contents of the doodle drawers.

BrumBoo · 03/02/2021 20:22

I was a bit disappointed when I googled Robert the Robot and saw him without all his makeup and robot gear on.

I was the same. Then I saw him in the recent space series with the lovely Maggie (I could listen to her speak about the ingredients of a tin of baked beans), and - well let's just say I think he's also had a very comfortable lockdown. As my geek of a husband put it - 'he looks like Kryton in that series of Red Dwarf where the suit didn't fit so well...'.

I can't say much to be honest, I have both put on weight and got pregnant during lockdown. I am a full roly-poly pudding Grin.

minty133 · 03/02/2021 20:25

Me and my two sons saw Mr Maker in a coffee shop near the theatre where he was in panto. We walked past the window where he was sat and started doing shapes in front of him (my idea - I'm such an embarrassing mother). He smiled at us and looked really friendly, I think he would have loved us to come up to him for an autograph but I'd embarrassed myself too much and we shuffled off. Anyway, I'd shag and marry him for sure. He's much more handsome in real life.

YouWontBelieveYourEyes · 03/02/2021 20:28

Seen Justin Fletcher at GOSH a few times and would have a very low opinion of him except for the fact he was very nice to the children he was paid to see (wouldn’t have anything to do with the others though).

What's this? He was paid to visit sick children in hospital? And he was dismissive of the other children in the ward who did not have cash?

Apparently one of the worst visitors GOSH have had was Madonna, who was rude, grubby and only interested in promoting her book.

x2boys · 03/02/2021 20:28

I may have told my son to bite Mr Tumble when Cbeebies filmed at his special school ...

Mrsmummy90 · 03/02/2021 20:30

I read her article a while ago and it doesn't surprise me that Justin ghosted her. He has a brand to protect.

Would love to hear what his mum says though 😂

ChristMyArse · 03/02/2021 20:31

Mr Tumble is the bain of my life. I live where he filmed, and it's on CBeebies all the time.

During summer we have kids and parents galore looking for Mr Tumbles house. They will
happily interrupt my sunbathing day time drinking session to ask which house he lives at.

I'm quite apt at lying about the whole thing as the kids are expecting spotty doors etc, so I just say that if the spots aren't on the door he's not home and return to my wine

On a serious note though it does get very annoying when I just want to read my book in peace!!
