To ask you to help GET THIS BABY OUT OF ME!

3cm dilated now for over a week, had 3 sweeps, midwife said she could have broken my waters there and then if allowed, baby in perfect position, having contractions but not regular, had show, lost plug ages ago, can't bloody sleep, my hips feel like jelly inside me, and just plain miserable.

I'm now waiting on a call to be induced and have my waters manually broken, I won't need pessaries apparently. Call to come within the next few days I've been told.

So help me.... What did you do to shift a stubborn baby along? I've been told to exercise, walk etc... But weather is shit here so I'm hoping there's some other things I can do at home.

Did anything work for you? I am so miserable!

I will do anything. If you tell me sticking out your tongue and rubbing your head worked, I will try it. Anything.

(Ps I know a lot of it is old wives tales and nothing is guaranteed but if you did try something and felt it made a difference just tell me so I can do it... Please... I beg).

Little bit of gentle hand expressing.

Eat a very large curry. Needs to be a big one Grin

Go on hands and knees and crawl around living room.

Enterthedragons · 02/02/2021 17:32

I’ve just had DC4 and tried everything - clary sage, DTD, evening primrose oil. None of which seemed to work. In hindsight the only correlation with all my births seems to be a long walk before each one got going. I also drank raspberry leaf tea non stop from 32 weeks and I’ve never had to push more than twice so I do think it tones your uterus!

jobbyjg · 02/02/2021 17:34

My 1st son was born after using breast pump and eating a Bombay bad boy pit noddle. My 2nd son refused to come out and i has to be induced . I tried everything and nothing worked

PoorReg · 02/02/2021 17:43

One thing that worries me with a hot curry... I don't have a particularly ironclad digestive system and so say if it did do the trick, I'd rather not be shitting myself more than necessary during labour put frankly!

When I was nine days overdue, I went to see a friend in the centre of London and walked back home to south west London instead of getting the tube (around 5 miles in total). I then drank 2 cups of raspberry leaf tea. Might have been coincidence but my contractions started soon afterwards and it was a relatively quick birth.

Member968405 · 02/02/2021 17:49

What worked for me was taking my eldest (age 3) to watch the trains at the local station. We were on a footbridge with glass walls- no chairs - so I was kind of squatting down for a couple of hours (very attractive). Went into labour that night

mogloveseggs · 02/02/2021 17:52

Order some shoes! That worked for me missed the delivery for a delivery of my own Grin

pursuedbyablackdog · 02/02/2021 17:54

Tell your baby you are ready to meet him/ her! Seriously might sound mad, but I think I said something along the lines of "come on mate, time to meet your mum, everything is ready so let's go, go go" and yep within 20 mins I was having proper full on contractions and two hours later out popped ds! He's still a really compliant little lad!

MustardMitt · 02/02/2021 18:03

Make some really important plan for tomorrow - that always seems to trigger something happening that spoils it for me anyway Grin

Unfortunately my only available plans right now are to go for a walk or maybe a grocery shop at a push! Grin

Hahaha OP i tried it all too walking, pineapple, hot curry, sex, nipple tweeking, I went down stairs on my bum, drove over speedbumps, gym, exercise, I had to be induced at 42 weeks, but the birthing ball really vigorous worked and then a steaming hot bath i was induced at 11am nothing all day went on birthing ball hot bath at about 2am i went from 0- 9cm could have been a mix of the pessary too but nothing was happening until the ball and bath good luck i know how you're feeling x

PoorReg · 02/02/2021 18:11

So I'm jumping on the ball now. So far I've only done quite gentle bouncing and rocking. Would you say you did quite hard bouncing? There's no way of saying it without sounding awful on a thread where sex, swallowing, orgasms and 'jizz' have been mentioned so frequently. But seriously?

I have a midwife friend who has confirmed this is a ‘thing’ and said with an eye roll ‘I don’t get why women are always so shocked the hot curries they’ve been chowing down for days are making them shit themselves. They act like it’s so unexpected and mortifying when everyone else in the room knows it’s common sense!’

I don’t think she enjoys the women who have done that Grin

Jinglebellbop · 02/02/2021 18:19

I had a big cry. Got things moving within an hour!

pumpkinpie01 · 02/02/2021 18:20

Skipping , I skipped until I had mild stabbing pains down below then went into labour a few hours later. Had the reflexology done on my feet , different pregnancy, did not work neither did sex or pineapples .

doistayordoigo · 02/02/2021 18:26

My midwife also told me that swallowing works best. I was doubtful, but it did seem to work Blush

PoorReg · 02/02/2021 19:50

Great news, DH has agreed to get it on later 😂 wish me luck!

Not necessarily a great recommendation from me as both my overdue babies ended up with long labours then c-section. But tried accupressure points to try and get things going with my 1st and my waters broke (I heard them pop! Then whoosh and contractions started soon after) when my husband firmly pushed the ankle point as shown in this article: www.healthline.com/health/pregnancy/acupressure-points-inducing-labor#bladder-60-point

AlwaysLatte · 02/02/2021 20:39

Baby no 2 came 3 days early when I was crawling through tunnels in soft play with Baby no 1 so I would recommend that kind of exercise. Positions you wouldn't normally get into!

Hopingformydb · 02/02/2021 20:49

@PoorReg on the ball it was more like fast long wide strokes proper straddle it spread your legs get that cervix wide open 🤣 then have a hot bath and continue on the ball again.. raspberry leaf tea did nothing for me it tasted vile too 😩

splishsplashsploosh · 02/02/2021 20:52

Hot Thai curry worked for me...

candycane222 · 02/02/2021 21:02

Sex and a particularly hilarious episode of Frasier have both done it for me. (Both preceded by a long walk though, neither baby was in winter, which made that bit rather easier)

savanahnana · 02/02/2021 21:58

Sorry, but lots of sex, semen and nipple stimulation worked both times for me and very quickly 🙈

Zanina · 02/02/2021 21:58

I was standing on the bed to take some photos of water leak marks on the ceiling. Forgot i was pregnant and stepped off the bed. The bed is a little high so was sort of a jump. labour started few hours later. Wishing you all the best! X

andannabegins · 02/02/2021 22:02

I was also told that actually it's swallowing of the semen that does the trick. Perhaps a theory that has been spread by desperate men who want a blow job and their heavily pregnant wives are saying no but worth a shot? See what I did there?!
