To ask you to help GET THIS BABY OUT OF ME!

3cm dilated now for over a week, had 3 sweeps, midwife said she could have broken my waters there and then if allowed, baby in perfect position, having contractions but not regular, had show, lost plug ages ago, can't bloody sleep, my hips feel like jelly inside me, and just plain miserable.

I'm now waiting on a call to be induced and have my waters manually broken, I won't need pessaries apparently. Call to come within the next few days I've been told.

So help me.... What did you do to shift a stubborn baby along? I've been told to exercise, walk etc... But weather is shit here so I'm hoping there's some other things I can do at home.

Did anything work for you? I am so miserable!

I will do anything. If you tell me sticking out your tongue and rubbing your head worked, I will try it. Anything.

(Ps I know a lot of it is old wives tales and nothing is guaranteed but if you did try something and felt it made a difference just tell me so I can do it... Please... I beg).

I climbed the stairs of the hospital snd then went back down. It's the down part that does the job apparently. Most people go into labour at night (I did anyway) because it's when you're cocooned snd safe in your bed and it's dark so you are more likely to be safe with loved ones. So take a nap snd draw the curtains. Get your partner to massage you and try snd snooze. You need to rid yourself of anxiety snd anticipation because that cortisol will actively stop you going into labour...

Desmondo2016 · 02/02/2021 16:10

Whatever you do don't stick the pineapple inside you 🤣

zippityzip · 02/02/2021 16:13

@TheBigFish WHERE on your feet are these magical pressure points?!?!
I need to know so I can do them in 7 weeks time!!!!

fairydustandpixies · 02/02/2021 16:18

Dance to music you love and drink lots of pineapple juice!

Purplewithred · 02/02/2021 16:19

Orgasm. If you can manage it.

Doesabear · 02/02/2021 16:20

Another for breast pump - worked for me. Keep at it for ages though - a good 30 minutes to an hour.

WineInTheWillows · 02/02/2021 16:24

Just a word to say my contractions weren't regular at all for the entire of labour and we're still only 2-3 per 10 minutes at 9cm dilated. I went in for reduced movements- the monitor showed contractions that were irregular and the midwife said I wasn't in labour yet, but she'd like to do a quick exam just to check the situation and I was 6cm dilated. The midwife was very surprised!

So, if the contractions get really painful, don't rule out being in labour even if they're still irregular.

OlmostOlwyn · 02/02/2021 16:32

Start doing something that it will be really inconvenient if you go into labour in the middle of. Then let sod's law take care of the rest Grin

Good luck when the time comes, OP! Flowers

CurrentWife · 02/02/2021 16:32

Raspberry leaf worked for me.

My best friend used castor oil.

Good luck!

TheWumpus · 02/02/2021 16:33

When I was 12 days overdue in a very similar situation, it was Walcher's that worked for me. Just like the stories on this page, after I did it the contractions took a break and restarted half an hour later. DS was born maybe 3 hours after that.

Good luck!

Roadtohades · 02/02/2021 16:35

I remember reading when I was pregnant (a long time ago now) that 'combing' your boobs, i.e. using a comb to sweep down from the top to above the nipples, would bring on contractions. I only mention it because nobody else has - probably because it doesn't work, but it wouldn't take much effort to try out!

TheABC · 02/02/2021 16:40

On the basis you will have neither the energy or time afterwards, I would go for the bath-drink-orgasm combo. Then nipple tweaking, if you must. Even if you don't get the baby out, you will still have a good time.

Don't be discouraged if it takes longer. Even the most stubborn little bigger gets ejected in the end

QueenArseClangers · 02/02/2021 16:42

Breast pump has worked for me twice.

If you have an Italian takeaway or place that delivers, order and eat an eggplant lasagna. Not cheese or meat - must be eggplant. I don't know why but it works here.

Fatas · 02/02/2021 16:50

How do you know baby is in perfect position. Baby might not be crowning and then it won’t be. Midwives aren’t always right at this stage. May be head down but head not quite in right place.

SoCrimeaRiver · 02/02/2021 16:51

Music for me, specifically "Lost in music" by Sister Sledge on repeat. You need something to dip and move your hips to. If you have older children, get their care in place. The Sister Sledge baby arrived within 4 hours of older sibling leaving the house.

NightOwl19 · 02/02/2021 16:54

No suggestions but watching for ideas, I'm almost 39'weeks and so bloody misrable I need this baby out!

gallbladderpain · 02/02/2021 17:01

Nipple tweaking for sure along with vigourous ball bouncing.
Rather embarrassing behind a curtain on the maternity ward all the same ! lol
I was early at just under 36 weeks but had gone into labour at 28 weeks and they had managed to stop it when i was between 3-4cm but i'd had on off contractions for weeks and was having regular bleeds and reduced movements so after a big bleed they admitted me to the ward for induction the next day....the night before i was ball bouncing and nipple pulling behind that curtain and got regular contractions on the go they broke my waters a few hours later and I had a baby in my arms 4 hours after that !

EggBobbin · 02/02/2021 17:02

Oh this was me last week! Sorry to say the only thing to shift her was a midwife breaking my waters but she was born quite promptly after that...

I can recvomend bingeing ‘It’s A Sin’ if you want a weepy watch...

Ithinkhedidit · 02/02/2021 17:04

With my first our NCT course leader (who was absolutely brilliant), said her best advice to us for early labour was to chill in a warm bath with a glass of red wine! Do it!

AprilThe8th · 02/02/2021 17:05

Just remembered thT my midwife said swallowing sperm helped

PoorReg · 02/02/2021 17:07

Thanks all. After all the excitement of these things to try I had a nap 🤣 back to it now.

I'm going to try a small wine in a mo. Maybe after some vigorous ball bouncing.

Vigorous ball bouncing sounded terrible.

Sorry if my mum is reading this thread, I know she's on here 🤣

When I was in a similar situation the v experienced midwife sent us home suggesting a glass of red, sex and "plenty of nipple stimulation". Baby was born about 12 hours later. Tell your DH to get over himself - it's the last sex that's likely to happen for months!

AngelicInnocent · 02/02/2021 17:25

For me it was just a case of "the one day I don't want them to arrive".

Arrived on our wedding anniversary Grin
