To ask you to help GET THIS BABY OUT OF ME!

3cm dilated now for over a week, had 3 sweeps, midwife said she could have broken my waters there and then if allowed, baby in perfect position, having contractions but not regular, had show, lost plug ages ago, can't bloody sleep, my hips feel like jelly inside me, and just plain miserable.

I'm now waiting on a call to be induced and have my waters manually broken, I won't need pessaries apparently. Call to come within the next few days I've been told.

So help me.... What did you do to shift a stubborn baby along? I've been told to exercise, walk etc... But weather is shit here so I'm hoping there's some other things I can do at home.

Did anything work for you? I am so miserable!

I will do anything. If you tell me sticking out your tongue and rubbing your head worked, I will try it. Anything.

(Ps I know a lot of it is old wives tales and nothing is guaranteed but if you did try something and felt it made a difference just tell me so I can do it... Please... I beg).

Hot curry did it for me. My waters popped a few hours later. I was 40+4 so very possibly a coincidence Grin Little bugger didn't hang around after that, nearly had him in the car.

Minnie6078 · 02/02/2021 22:42

Tried everything nothing worked, then went on a big walk up some stone steps in the country side Jesus I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I got to the top. Got home and was looking forward to putting feet up and getting some rest....nope constructions started 2 hours later baby was here! Just about got to the hospital

Minnie6078 · 02/02/2021 22:44

Whatever you do though not a curry! I really regret the curry the night before I had DS my poor DH was traumatised when I
Thought the baby was crowing but I actually just shit myself in the back of his car on way to birth centre! :-)

thatsforsure · 02/02/2021 22:55

Pineapple worked for me

Wanderlust20 · 02/02/2021 23:00

Oh I'm so sorry OP but some of these suggestions (and your descriptions of doing them all at once) are hilarious!

I'm also slightly terrified of what's ahead for me as currently pregnant!!

Wanderlust20 · 02/02/2021 23:00

Good luck, let us know what worked! I'll be taking notes!!!

niveacreme · 02/02/2021 23:02

nipple stimulation (lots of it) is the only thing proven to work

A glass of wine

An orgasm

Hands on knees washing the floor

trevthecat · 02/02/2021 23:04

Rotate on the ball! Get those hips going round rather than bouncing! Good luck!

Riv12345 · 02/02/2021 23:09

Sex and more sex

Riv12345 · 02/02/2021 23:09

Good luck by the way 💐

Serin · 02/02/2021 23:14

What worked for me, all 3 times was to lie down somewhere quiet and just focus on your cervix opening like a flower, petal by petal. Proper woo, but it worked.

FlamedToACrisp · 02/02/2021 23:16

Sink plunger?

Purplestorm83 · 02/02/2021 23:20

I had stop start contractions for a week 😮 Tbh the only thing that worked for me was sex, which seemed to start things off but very slowly, so the next day I went for a walk determined not to stop until I was in labour. I was 40+12 (and booked in for an induction that day) when my daughter finally made her appearance, but to be fair she was 9lb3 and I am 5ft1 so I think she spent a lot of the last two weeks getting positioned absolutely perfectly in order to come out!

Lay a trail of Smarties to lure the baby out?

OlmostOlwyn · 03/02/2021 00:07

Have you tried just crouching down and letting baby crawl out?

Roadtohades · 03/02/2021 08:03

@OlmostOlwyn that's brilliant! What's the source?

Lampsank · 03/02/2021 08:08

What worked for me was planning a really nice relaxing evening- buying my favourite food (not that I could physically fit much food in my stomach at that point...), planning what I wanted to watch, really looking forward to a final night of peace. Of course sods law was then envoked and labour came on pretty quickly, hah.

OlmostOlwyn · 03/02/2021 08:13

@Roadtohades it's by an artist called Chris Simpsons in a book called The Story of Life Grin

Screwcorona · 03/02/2021 08:18

Try expressing some colostrum....useful for after birth as well as can bring on labour.

I planned to because of difficulties establishing milk last time but midwife told me not to do this time as I need ELCS and dont want to end up in labour early.

Hankunamatata · 03/02/2021 08:22

I sat on birthing ball and used breast pump for a day and evening. Baby appeared next morning

PoorReg · 03/02/2021 08:41

Still here... Still no baby 😭

May try trail of smarties shortly.

BabyofMine · 03/02/2021 10:06

Was in slow labour for a week. Listened to a hypobirthing audio track, went for a nap, and was in active labour when I woke up after a couple of hours.

Could have been coincidence though!

Dailyhandtowelwash · 03/02/2021 10:18

It's almost all coincidence!

OP, if you, carry on relaxing. I think midwives often recommend a glass of wine because it relaxes us, which I think you've already tried! But really, it's the best thing, and also the most enjoyable of all the options at this stage.

Walking, particularly on stairs, is great when you're in labour, and definitely worth doing more today, but don't make yourself miserable with it.

If you're comfortable on the bouncy ball, just watch some of your favourite funny TV and then have a bath - only putting that in because I missed them when I had a tiny baby!
