To ask you to help GET THIS BABY OUT OF ME!

3cm dilated now for over a week, had 3 sweeps, midwife said she could have broken my waters there and then if allowed, baby in perfect position, having contractions but not regular, had show, lost plug ages ago, can't bloody sleep, my hips feel like jelly inside me, and just plain miserable.

I'm now waiting on a call to be induced and have my waters manually broken, I won't need pessaries apparently. Call to come within the next few days I've been told.

So help me.... What did you do to shift a stubborn baby along? I've been told to exercise, walk etc... But weather is shit here so I'm hoping there's some other things I can do at home.

Did anything work for you? I am so miserable!

I will do anything. If you tell me sticking out your tongue and rubbing your head worked, I will try it. Anything.

(Ps I know a lot of it is old wives tales and nothing is guaranteed but if you did try something and felt it made a difference just tell me so I can do it... Please... I beg).

@Indecisive12 it was genuinely a female teacher!
No idea of the science behind the statement and wasn’t interested in finding out more 😂

Birth ball
Clary sage diffuser and
Raspberry leaf tea got dd here on her Edd for me!

loubieloo4 · 02/02/2021 15:29

My midwife friend swears by nipple stimulation, get the breast pump out!

HastingsSpoon · 02/02/2021 15:35

Grin I’m only 33 weeks but went 10 days & 7 days overdue with mine (I was 4cm for over 24 hours). Bookmarking!

Scbchl · 02/02/2021 15:40

I was at a consultant appointment for a sweep at 38+5 weeks (due to severe spd). I was 4cm and she said she thought I'd be in labour that night. I carried on and was in hospital with suspected pre-eclampsia at 39+3. Turned out it wasnt and they gave me a sweep and I was 6cm dilated and not in active labour. They sent me home despite saying they could feel my waters and my last two labours being 1hour 10 and 45 mins active labour.

Went home and nothing for 24 hours. My husband made me cumin tea (google it, old Spanish wives tale to bring labour on) at 9pm and I woke at 3am fully dilated and pushing. Made it to hospital very quickly to have him.

@TreacleHart

Pineapple is supposed to help, something to do with the Bromalin.
Yep - eat half a pineapple.
Witchend · 02/02/2021 15:45

I was always told fresh pineapple. I was never sure if you were meant to eat it or put it somewhere else. Grin

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 02/02/2021 15:49

I think its the core of the pineapple?

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 02/02/2021 15:49

My waters and plug slowly came away on the Thursday@39 weeks, on Friday I measured 36 weeks as baby moved down. On the tues i was booked for a sweep. On the Monday though, at bed time we did the nipple thing. At 2.15am on the Tuesday my waters broke 4 hours later - baby was here. Definitely try the nipples.

eightxmaspaws · 02/02/2021 15:50

@PoorReg I stomped angrily round a field. For what it's worth, despite being overdue, DS was fast and a v good birth!
Although right now I'd do that, followed by orgasm, glass of wine and a nice bath.
Curry was useless imho

Absy · 02/02/2021 15:52

I think you’re meant to eat it ...?

With DS i was eating a pineapple a day, which gets boring fast so I recommend blending it with a ton of coconut milk - virgin pina colada. Way more fun (especially if you put a paper umbrella in it)

eightxmaspaws · 02/02/2021 15:52

@PoorReg I was almost 2 weeks late. so I understand! Wine

GameSetMatch · 02/02/2021 15:53

Nipple stimulation, 15 mins on each lying in a warm bed, baby will be born!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/02/2021 15:54

Is there anything you needed to do before the baby comes??

I was overdue and did all the things, but I went into Labour after I collected my Dcats meds from the vets. Suddenly realised we would be house bound for a few weeks after the birth and I needed to stock up on his meds. Few hours after that I was in Labour.

TheBigFish · 02/02/2021 15:55

My chiropractor did the pressure points on my feet when I was 10 days overdue. Barely got to the carpark before my waters went and ds was born 90 minutes later. This was after days of irregular contractions. She is a miracle worker and several friends have used her since with similar results.

Chabbylis · 02/02/2021 15:55

Fresh pineapple juice did it for me!

HikeForward · 02/02/2021 15:55

Get DH to come in a cup then rub the semen onto your cervix. The prostalgins in it can soften cervix and start contractions.

drumst1ck · 02/02/2021 15:56

Honestly, I would just try and relax (easier said than done I know!) Oxytocin is the hormone needed to get birth going and that is produced when you're calm and relaxed. Have a bath, eat some chocolate, have a nap. Do whatever you feel most comfortable doing. This baby will come out, one way or another. You got this!

Wateringcan27 · 02/02/2021 15:56

Scrubbing the skirting boards worked for me 😊
Good luck!

TheBigFish · 02/02/2021 15:57

I think you have to eat something crazy like 10 pineapples for it to have any effect

CarlottaValdez · 02/02/2021 15:58

I went two weeks over with a ridiculously long latent stage but then had a fantastic easy birth. I did a lot of walking the day he finally made an appearance!

Witchend · 02/02/2021 16:02

Oh yes, the "mustn't come now" phenomena!

I know someone who felt terribly energetic and wouldn't stop cleaning. Instead of recognising that it was nesting she thought she'd go for a nice long walk. 10 miles into rural countryside without a phone box or road in sight (pre-mobiles) the contractions started.
Then they had to walk 10 miles back again. Baby was born in their car with ambulance on the way, having had to flag down a passing tractor and ask them to go and phone for help. I believe the farmer did offer to help saying he had a lot of experience of sheep at that stage Grin

Norwayreally · 02/02/2021 16:03

Honestly, nothing worked for me at all. I made my tongue bleed eating a whole fresh pineapple, gave myself the shits eating spicy food, tried pushing toddler DS up a humongous hill in his buggy with DC2 every day, tried tweaking my nipples endlessly and all of it was pointless Grin.

WashableVelvet · 02/02/2021 16:03

There’s good evidence for the nipple twiddling, problem is it needs to be like an hour a day! www.cochrane.org/CD003392/PREG_breast-stimulation-for-cervical-ripening-and-induction-of-labour

Norwayreally · 02/02/2021 16:04

Oh and I did the crazy nesting with all of mine from about 35 weeks onwards, drank raspberry leaf tea from 32 weeks too. Nothing worked.

CandyLeBonBon · 02/02/2021 16:05

Yep. Breast pump got my contractions going and speed bumps made my waters break!
