Who has the master bedroom in your house ?

We were just discussing this with a friend and she thought it was odd that we have the smallest room in the house.

My dc 14 and 7. Ds originally had main bedroom and DD middle bedroom.
This then switched 2 years ago as their needs changed.
I have always had the smaller bedroom. I have my double bed and no floor space etc but I find that I only really sleep in their so it’s never bothered me.
We are planning on moving soon and I think it will be a similar set up.

How do you work out who gets what room ?

We have the biggest room - it’s en-suite, fits a king bed and two wardrobes, and just enough floor space for our bedside tables. Couldn’t fit a cot when DC were babies. Kids have same sized rooms - fits a double and a wardrobe with a bit of floor space, or a single and a wardrobe with decent floor space

I moved after divorce and my young adult daughter has biggest room with en-suite as she has more stuff and has a desk for uni work in her room , I’ll move in there when she eventually leaves home , like others say , I only sleep in mine so made much more sense for her to have biggest room

My nearly 11-year-old daughter has by far the biggest room in the house. The middle-sized room used yo be a guest room, but is now my office and my bedroom is the smallest room (although still a double).

My daughter has the most stuff and needs the most space.

My children are all grown and flown the nest. I have 4 bedrooms and I'm in the second bedroom because I like the view more than the one from the Master bedroom.

My husband and I do at the moment because we have the baby's cot and change table in our room too. But if we can't afford to upsize in a year or two, we have discussed putting all three girls in our room and then we can have the two smaller rooms as a bedroom and dressing room (wouldn't fit our bed and dresser/drawers etc in their rooms).

The master bedroom (the loft) is our playroom/spare bedroom. I wanted to be on the same floor as DS, so DH and I have the second largest room and DS has one slightly smaller than ours. It works well for us because both my parents and DH's parents live far away and stay for long periods, so this gives them lots of space - and when they aren't here, DS has lots of room to play!

DH and I do, but if we could fit a double bed, wardrobe, and chest of drawers in DD's room, I'd be more than happy to swap because we only use our room for sleeping in and I'd love her to have a lovely big bedroom. Hers is long and narrow and it just wouldn't fit a double bed.

We currently have the master with an en-suite but DS’s bedroom is very small so I’d like to swap. Not sure what age it will be safe to trust him with an en-suite though...? 🤔 5?

The other factor with us is that the big bedroom is at the front of the house - and the garden noise from our arsehole neighbour is horrendous so the kids would never have got to sleep, plus his endless barbecue smoke and garden bonfires as well. So we take the hit so they can have a chance of a sensible bedtime
