What is your all time favourite comfort food?

The best snack, or meal that makes you happy everytime you eat it

OP posts:
Inextremis · 02/02/2021 04:35

Tarka dal, hot, spicy and with a squeeze of lemon juice
French onion soup with a gruyere-coated crouton
Fried black pudding with grilled tomatoes, lots of black pepper
Twice-cooked baked potato with spring onions, cheese and chorizo
Custard doughnuts
Bubble 'n squeak
Really good sweet black or red grapes wrapped in slices of Serrano ham
French bread, Brie de Meaux, drizzle of truffle honey

Foos is my comfort :)

KellyJonesLeatherTrousers · 02/02/2021 04:43

Loving these - and yes to the still warm egg Mayo in white bread!

Mushroom risotto loaded with Parmesan
Crisp butty on white bread
Steak & kidney pudding, chips, mushy peas & gravy (when things are really bad!)
Sticky toffee pudding and custard

NaughtyButNice · 02/02/2021 06:45

For a snack it has to be plantain chips with really creamy coleslaw. Just dip the chips in and scoop up the coleslaw.

For something more substantial homemade beef stew with mash and dumplings, crusty buttered bread is optional but amazing too.

Happynow001 · 02/02/2021 07:42

For breakfast or supper: Rolled oats microwaved with banana and dark cherries or blueberries, pumpkin seeds and chopped Brazil nuts followed with large dollops of thick, plain live yoghurt, followed up with a large green tea.. 🌹

Saywhatyoumeanandmeanwhatyousa · 02/02/2021 07:49

Mashed potato with loads of salt and butter.

Rhubarb crumble or gooseberry crumble

A cheese and onion crisp sandwich with butter on white bread

myusernamewastakenbyme · 02/02/2021 09:15

Wetherspoons Eggs Benedict.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 02/02/2021 09:33

Macaroni cheese, cheese/marmite toasties, baked Camembert. Basically cheese is a stand alone food group for me...

Ileflottante · 02/02/2021 15:55

Sushi.

Or crusty French bread with room temperature salty butter.

Mia184 · 02/02/2021 17:39

Pasta with red pesto, tuna and lots of parmesan

Bakedpotatoandgin · 02/02/2021 17:53

Cheesy mashed potato, with sweetcorn if I'm feeling in need of a vitamin (reminds me of "sweetcorn pie" we had as kids which was just that, browned under the grill). If I'm still miserable the next day then I can make the leftovers into toasties with sliced white bread.
Or spinach and red lentil soup/ dhal.
If it's not a full meal, then a cup of tea with milk and 2 sugars and a couple of dark chocolate digestives.

LittleSilverBird · 02/02/2021 18:23

Dirty mash with a shitload lot of butter or substitute, salt and pepper and a blob of tom sauce.

SlipperTripper · 02/02/2021 18:41
  • Cheese and onion crisp sandwich, with white bread and butter. Have to be walkers crisps.
  • Plastic ham and Mayo sandwich.
  • Coco pops.
  • Sliced apple with Nutella.
  • Panang curry, with noodles instead of rice.
  • Milkybar yoghurts
  • And a Terry's Chocolate Orange.
SlipperTripper · 02/02/2021 18:42

Or mashed potato, with strong cheddar, bacon, onion and tomatoes. Ideally, eaten with tiger bread and butter 🥰

blueballetshoes · 02/02/2021 18:42

Treacle sponge pudding and custard.

MirandaMarple · 02/02/2021 18:44

Cold roast meat (usually leftovers) with baked beans and roast potatoes or oven chips.

hansgrueber · 02/02/2021 18:47

Pea and ham soup. As a meal I'd go for chips, good ham, two very runny eggs over the chips.

Tangledtresses · 02/02/2021 18:47

Chicken pie
Mash
Gravy
Red cabbage from Xmas (frozen of course) I make huge amounts for this very reason

MirandaMarple · 02/02/2021 18:49

@myusernamewastakenbyme

Wetherspoons Eggs Benedict.
I ordered this once but poached eggs were out of stock.

Similarly I was in a chain steakhouse in America once and I wanted my steak medium-rare. Those were sold out, too.

LethbridgeStewart · 02/02/2021 18:49

I have loads.

My current favourite is Chips and bacon in a bowl smothered in melted chocolate and golden syrup.

Pancakes and nutella or golden syrup.

Golden syrup porridge with chocolate sprinkles.

Very addicted to golden syrup at the mo!

Ready salted crisps and butter sandwich.

Vimto fizzy sweets.

Creme eggs.

I also tried the new white chocolate snickers this week and they were amazing.

hansgrueber · 02/02/2021 18:49

@MirandaMarple

Cold roast meat (usually leftovers) with baked beans and roast potatoes or oven chips.
My late father would not eat left overs off the roast, don't know why, so if we 'd been to Sunday lunch, or even just knew there's been a roast cooked, we would make a point of 'dropping in' on Monday!
MirandaMarple · 02/02/2021 18:55

@hansgrueber pleasure 😊

It's actually a Boxing Day tradition from my DH's childhood. His Grandad called the turkey leftovers 'thumb bits'

SpudsandGravy · 02/02/2021 19:02

A massive plate of chicken wings, roasted until crispy and seasoned only with salt and pepper. Yum! Crunch, crunch...

FolkyFoxFace · 02/02/2021 19:28

Thickly sliced white toast with loads of butter. Dunked in really sweet tea.

OR

Homemade chunky veg soup.

TastyTicklemore · 02/02/2021 19:29

A really good jacket potato, butter, cheese, coleslaw.

Fucking A.

Bloodybridget · 02/02/2021 22:50

Noticeable how many posts mention cheese, potatoes, pasta and bread!
