Toast of any kind. Butter, marmite, marmalade, jam, honey, cheese - I just love it all.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 01/02/2021 22:39

@Borisjohnsonshairbrush

If I'm I'll with a cold then Tom kha gai soup.

Cheesy crumpets with mustard

Cheesy crumpets with mustard sound incredible! Any particular recommendations for combos?

Always had crumpets and just butter growing up, MN has opened up a whole new crumpety world. Tried marmite, jam, stilton and brie crumpets so far, (not together, I’m not that experimental Grin)

Someone once mentioned cream cheese and smoked salmon, which sounds like comfort on a plate.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 01/02/2021 22:43

@notsosmoothie

When I'm ill, my own chicken matzo ball soup.

It's one Jewish cliché I absolutely live up to –my grandmother taught me when I was a kid and I've made a few tweaks since then, and there is NOTHING BETTER on the face of the planet.

You can’t tease us like that... now I NEED to know the recipe Grin

The ones I’ve tried are pretty lame and flavourless - could be my cooking mind Blush

Massive cup of tea with a full pack of biscuits or huge bar of chocolate

@notanotherlockdownsurely

Home made chicken and barley soup Home made ham soup Home made scotch broth They warm my soul
Can you share your recipes for both your chicken and ham soups? They sound yummy 😋
OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 01/02/2021 22:54

I guess mine depends... comfort for hangover, marmite on buttered toast and boiled eggs.

Feeling ill would be Heinz tomato soup or Batchelors chicken and leek cup a soup... with buttered bread or toast.

Feeling down and in need of a quick food hug, Batchelors chicken and mushroom pasta n sauce (mushroom and wine was my other fave but they discontinued it 🤬) but it has to be cooked my way Wink DH ruins it 😭 Or Heinz macaroni cheese on toast.

In need of a major food cwtch, homemade lasagne with garlic bread.

damn my sausages are looking sad now

DanceWithYourBalloon · 01/02/2021 22:56

Pesto pasta with an absolute carpet of cheese.

Cheese.

Magschoice · 01/02/2021 22:58

I regret asking now, this thread has just made me super hungry and thinking of food all night Grin

ParkheadParadise · 01/02/2021 23:11

This thread is the best Menu I have ever seen.

Worldwide2 · 01/02/2021 23:21

I'm definitely going to create some of these bloody genius thread 😋

SlopesOff · 01/02/2021 23:31

Fried cheese sandwich with so much cheese it runs out of the sides and some creamy coleslaw.

If I really need comfort, a bowl of mashed potato with gallons of gravy.

Baked beans in a bowl with grated cheese stirred in or a fried egg on top (or both) and soggy sliced white bread and real butter to dip in the bowl.

Chip buttie, with chips on the side.

SlopesOff · 01/02/2021 23:34

Pasta, cooked soft, not al dente, there's no comfort in that, mixed with olive oil with softened finely sliced garlic and salt, and small florets of broccoli, cheese if available but really good without.

Cherrysoup · 02/02/2021 00:18

Bread, proper big hunks of it, plus cheese. Toasted, plain, not fussed.

grassisjeweled · 02/02/2021 01:40

Freshly made, still warm egg mayo on soft wholemeal bread

Another crumble n cream fan here

Clevererthanyou · 02/02/2021 01:56

Spaghetti with spicy garlic butter. It’s fabulous, cheap and easy. Even my garlic hating husband loves it.

Clevererthanyou · 02/02/2021 02:08

Can’t believe I didn’t say Camembert or fish finger sandwiches, the guilt Sad

Pet8 · 02/02/2021 02:23

Cheesy mash;
Huge doorstep slice of tin loaf/ tiger bread with loads of salted butter and a mug of tea;
One that reminds me of being piss poor on the dole and then as a student - packet mash, tin of meatballs in gravy and tin of sweetcorn; beef curry, boiled rice from chippy.

sugarcherry · 02/02/2021 03:23

Mashed potatoes with lots of butter and cream and cheese melted on the top.

PinkFlamingo888 · 02/02/2021 04:10

Mashed swede and gravy. The only thing I would eat after getting my braces tightened! 😂
