Would you have reported?
I'm not a fan of reporting for reporting sake so this has shocked me.
Just what outcome was expected by sending footage to his bosses?

YABU = he deserves to lose his job.
YANBU = it's batshit he kicked a snowman.

Soz if there has been a thread already.

Would you want to work with someone mean enough to smash a kiddies snowman? What sort of person does that?

He thought (presumably) that it was funny to do something that will make a child cry. The snowmans the tip of the iceberg. Red flag. And thats how its been treated. Also from the companies point of view, he's more trouble than he's worth if that's the way he treats private property. It's the same logic by which you should always sack someone if you catch them stealing a tenner - that won't be all they've stolen. I've learnt that one the hard way and saw the snowman as similar. Plus it's a little kids happiness FFS. What a git.

willFOURbagsbeenough · 31/01/2021 14:01

When you report someone in a precarious job, in this economic climate, you know full well that a likely outcome is that they get sacked

So we can’t report inappropriate behaviour ever incase someone loses their job as a result of their own behaviour? Pull the other one.

pumpkinbump · 31/01/2021 14:02

On the fence. I'm not sure he should have lost his job, after all it's kicking snow. But, if he's that mean to so something like this, then you have to wonder what he's like in day to day life. Maybe it wasn't the first complaint they received about him.

MagicSummer · 31/01/2021 14:02

It was a rubbish snowman, anyway!

Camperbran · 31/01/2021 14:02

He sounds like a delight and probably not a huge loss to the job, but I can't imagine the pettiness level of reporting someone for kicking a snowman down. Knew there would be a sad face photo of the toddler though in the papers, anything for attention hey.

Gwenhwyfar · 31/01/2021 14:03

He shouldn't have been sacked, quiet word maybe. But I don't understand what prompts someone to destroy a snowman anyway? What's the psychology behind it? Vandalism? A power thing? Some kind of bullying?

willFOURbagsbeenough · 31/01/2021 14:03

I think the kid is only 3!

davidsSchitt · 31/01/2021 14:03

@Gwenhwyfar his clear anger issues and complete lack of respect for anything or anyone.

TwelvePaws · 31/01/2021 14:04

He explained that he "felt like the snowman was obstructing my pathway to work," adding his role as a bin man is an important one which the community relies on.

🤣🤣🤣 Nice try.

Rosehip10 · 31/01/2021 14:04

The photo of the sad faced kid is ridiculous - shame on the parents for setting that up for a shitty tabloid - were probably paid.

willFOURbagsbeenough · 31/01/2021 14:05

The snowman probably looked at his girlfriend.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 31/01/2021 14:07

This was a good excuse to get rid of him. I think what he did was just nasty and maybe he will grow up and behave like a decent person. Sad that people here think bad behaviour should be ignored/excused " because of the current situation" Hmm

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 31/01/2021 14:07

There is no way that kid built that (misses point)

Deffo shouldn't be sacked unless this is just the tip of a kicking off/poor attitude iceberg. He could have been asked to apologise. That would have been sufficient.

OhWhyNot · 31/01/2021 14:08

Who would even bother to report this

Those bored at home ....

LApprentiSorcier · 31/01/2021 14:08

Well, his girlfriend is PG so let's hope when his own child is old enough, he doesn't go round wrecking their snow creations.

willFOURbagsbeenough · 31/01/2021 14:09

He could have been asked to apologise.

He was, he refused.

Would be willing to bet he’ll have absolutely nothing to do with the kid
ScreamingBeans · 31/01/2021 14:09

If he'd done it in front of the kid, I'd say he deserved to lose his job because he's bringing his company into disrepute.

He's obviously a nob, but I'm not sure being a nob should be grounds to sack someoone.

No one would ever have a job, we can all be nobs at times.

He does sound like a really unpleasant guy though.

TwelvePaws · 31/01/2021 14:09

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis

Did you actually read anything about this incident?

Lots of kids helped to make it.

He wasn’t sacked.

He refused to apologise.

Tbf he was a nob at work.

It's bordering on abusive behaviour. The parents getting the child to pose with the melting lump of snow for the sake of a sad face picture and likely upsetting the child more.
FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 31/01/2021 14:11

It is ridiculous. It was a bloody snowman, not someone's pet cat!!

Massive overreaction resulting in this poor bloke losing his job.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 31/01/2021 14:11

Well I do hope that he at least picked up carrot and put it in the compost bin. Grin

lotusbell · 31/01/2021 14:13

As others have said, i'm not sure it warranted him losing his job but given it was agency work, it's enough reason to not ask him back. Going by his attitude and reaction, I'd not be surprised to find out he has form. Maybe he was already on a warning.
For those (on here, and in the comments on news articles) who have argued that it was only a snowman which would've melted anyway, some spectacular point missing going on. The lad was on duty in a professional role, why would anyone of his age feel the need to kick in a snowman a) while working and b) at all? Sounds like he has some growing up to do, after reading his posts online about it. You just don't behave like that while at work, whatever your job is.
Also, there's a difference between your snowman melting away in the sun/thaw and someone purposely smashing it.
I'd be inclined to go out and have a go at him and I'd probably also report him but with the intention of him losing his job
I certainly wouldn't be bleating about it to the newspapers.
