Do you live near the sea and a city?

If you do, where do you live? We want to uproot and start new somewhere as we’ve had enough of Cornwall. I love big cities and my partner loves the beach so trying to find somewhere that has both!

Sorry not really an aibu but wanted a big range of answers so we can explore properties.

Southampton?

muddledmidget · 31/01/2021 10:50

Depending on how far you wanted to move, Exeter or Bristol are fairly near the coast, or moving further afield, Newcastle is near amazing beaches in Northumberland

HauntedPencil · 31/01/2021 10:50

Swansea/Gower area?

Portsmouth

fastwigglylines · 31/01/2021 10:51

Portobello in Edinburgh. Possibly a bit cold if you're used to Cornwall though!

fastwigglylines · 31/01/2021 10:52

(I don't live there but would love to).

Girlintheframe · 31/01/2021 10:52

Scotland.
About 40 mins from Edinburgh.
2 beaches with20 mins and a 3rd with 30 mins.

Crumpetloverrr · 31/01/2021 10:53

Cardiff

XiCi · 31/01/2021 10:53

Yes, great beach less than 10 miles from Liverpool. Love it.

CounsellorTroi · 31/01/2021 10:56

Cardiff is on the coast and handy for the Gower.

TheTrashBagIsOursCmonTrashBag · 31/01/2021 10:57

South Wales. Love it here, lots to do. As others have said Liverpool and Brighton are both great places to live and again, never short of things to do.

FoxyTheFox · 31/01/2021 10:57

North East coast of England would possibly fit your bill. You would be close to Newcastle, Sunderland, and Durham with both the beach and the countryside on your doorstep. You're in striking distance of Scotland and the Lake District if you wanted to go further afield for the day/weekend/a holiday. It has good rail links to the rest of the country and an airport so easy for travel as well.

mongoosebaby · 31/01/2021 10:57

Southsea in Portsmouth is fab- loads of quirky shops and bars, near the beach. Solent is great for sailing and water sports, quick ferry to isle of Wight, direct train to London. Good south coast weather if you are used to Cornwall!

OrigamiOwl · 31/01/2021 10:57

Norfolk? Between Norwich and the coast.

User2378901 · 31/01/2021 10:59

Not me but friends are in Exeter and it seems great.

IndiaMay · 31/01/2021 10:59

Southsea or Southampton

TheTempest · 31/01/2021 10:59

Eastbourne, beach right here and Brighton 20miles away.
London is 1.5 hours. It’s got a very old people reputation but it’s lovely!

Ilikewinter · 31/01/2021 10:59

Another vote for Southsea, we stumbled across it last year and decided we'd move there if we could.

mootymoo · 31/01/2021 10:59

Yes, well Bristol Channel, so not open ocean!

PickAChew · 31/01/2021 11:02

I'm in Durham - a small, very self contained city with Newcastle not far away, stunning countryside and a short drive to the coast.

BadEyeBri · 31/01/2021 11:02

County Down. 30mins to Belfast, 15mins to beach, 15mins to Mourne Mountains.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 31/01/2021 11:04

Cardiff? It's on the sea but no beach.

15 mins to stony beach at Penarth
30 mins to sandy beach at Barry (with associated seaside tat!}

JemIsMyNameNooneElseIsTheSame · 31/01/2021 11:05

Norwich. Not exactly 'big' but 25 minutes ish from the centre to the nearest coast.

BikeRunSki · 31/01/2021 11:08

Bristol, Newcastle, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Liverpool, Aberdeen
