If you do, where do you live? We want to uproot and start new somewhere as we’ve had enough of Cornwall. I love big cities and my partner loves the beach so trying to find somewhere that has both!

Sorry not really an aibu but wanted a big range of answers so we can explore properties.

Just a word of warning to all those saying that the Gower and its glorious beaches are just 45 minutes to an hour away from Cardiff

Totally agree with this poster. 45-60 minutes to get from Cardiff to Swansea, yes...but most 'Gower beaches' are a fair jaunt from the motorway exit!

Re: Mumbles op, its lovely. Really lovely. But two considerations - firstly, the traffic. On a nice day or a summer weekend the traffic down to Mumbles along the front cam be RAMMED. Fine for visits, immensely frustrating to have to get through every day - we considered it and decided against.

The second consideration is Secondary schools. Living in Mumbles will put you in Bishop Gore catchment which is middling.

The better catchments are Olchfa (Sketty/Killay, but further out) or Bishopston (from West Cross/Mayals and pretty much anywhere in South Gower as far as Rhossili - really large catchment because of how rural much of it is).

For the price you'll pay for a house in Mumbles I'd personally go back a bit to Mayals or Bishopston - you're still close to mumbles, similar price but will get a far better school catchment for your money.

OP, if you're serious about Swansea this would put you in the catchment area for Bishopston School which is one of the two best schools in the Swansea area — great for sports as well as academic achievements. There's a junior school in the village, a shop, a pharmacy, a very good doctor's surgery and a community hall. Cafes, pub and other facilties a nice 20 minute walk/ short drive away. School bus stops not far from the property. Country walks in various directions.

You'd be a 15-20-minute walk from Three Cliffs Bay, a 25-minute drive from Llangennith for surfing, 15-minutes into central Swansea and 10-5 minutes into Mumbles (everywhere will take longer on a sunny weekend).

@Shedbuilder lovely house!

10 minutes to Mumbles or 15 minutes to Swansea Centre is a bit optimistic from Southgate though!

Shedbuilder · 06/02/2021 21:32

I suppose it depends on where in Swansea or Mumbles you're heading. Can be quite quick to get to, say, the university. Obviously if you're talking rush hour times, or glorious summer weekends, everything takes longer.

Don't live there but have visited many times. Was back there this summer, house-sitting for friends.

@XiCi

Yes, great beach less than 10 miles from Liverpool. Love it.

Wirral Primary Schools
We are relocating back to the Wirral and were wondering if anyone had any recent experience of Thornton Hough or St Bridgets primary school?

SummerWhisper · 25/06/2021 21:04

Liverpool has Crosby, Freshfields and Formby. Further up, Southport. It's over the water / through a tunnel from the Wirral with West Kirby, Meols, Moreton, New Brighton and other fabulous shorelines (being a peninsula). The tunnel under the Mersey between the two areas probably takes 5 minutes. Property is very affordable as is cost of living. North Wales is less than an hour away. The Lakes is less than 2 hours. Merseyside is an amazing place to live Smile
