If you do, where do you live? We want to uproot and start new somewhere as we’ve had enough of Cornwall. I love big cities and my partner loves the beach so trying to find somewhere that has both!

Sorry not really an aibu but wanted a big range of answers so we can explore properties.

Bournemouth/Poole/Christchurch but very expensive due to the large percentage of retired types.

ShutUpAlex · 31/01/2021 12:29

@thegcatsmother well good for you but that’s not my experience at all.

Another vote for Liverpool!

Reinventinganna · 31/01/2021 12:32

Where in Cornwall are you that it’s so backwards and racist etc?

Chouetted · 31/01/2021 12:33

I second the poster who asked how "big" a big city is to you.

Cardiff is very nice, and a capital city, but it's no London, Birmingham or Manchester. You can walk from one end of the city centre to the other in about ten minutes.

Edinburgh
Aberdeen
Inverness

Fivews · 31/01/2021 12:35

Lots of options close to Belfast. I can walk to a beautiful beach in 10 mins but also drive into the city in 20.

Southwest12 · 31/01/2021 12:36

I'm in North Liverpool, ten minutes walk to the beach and all the Gormley statues, and 15 minutes into town on the train. I moved here from London and being near the beach was such a draw.

LadyGAgain · 31/01/2021 12:38

What's your budget? Portsmouth/Southsea/Hayling Island tick a lot of your boxes but you're paying SE prices.

Mochudubh · 31/01/2021 12:40

Aberdeen. Soon be "Taps Aff" weather.Grin

Like @NotQuiteUsual I'm south northumberland too. Brilliant place to live.

Close to Newcastle, fairly convenient train to Edinburgh. Driving distance to. Countless beaches and beautiful countryside. Walking distance to lots of lovely nature walks and my nice little town.

I'd highly recomend South Northumberland for access to amenities, access to public transport links to London/Edinburgh and quality of life.

AntiHop · 31/01/2021 12:42

Plymouth

Icandothis123 · 31/01/2021 12:44

Vancouver. City, beach, woodland and mountains all in one area.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 31/01/2021 12:44

Another vote for Newcastle, it has it all

passthemustard · 31/01/2021 12:45

I'm in south Devon 10 minutes walk to the beach but only 30 minutes to Exeter or Plymouth. I prefer Exeter. Actually I love Exeter. Also London is only 3 hours on the train....

Bourbonic · 31/01/2021 12:46

I live in Liverpool. My garden backs onto the beach.

Biscoffaddict · 31/01/2021 12:46

Liverpool, Brighton, Cardiff, Newcastle, Edinburgh

CruCru · 31/01/2021 12:48

How well off are you? I grew up in Brighton but it’s now expensive. Friends who still live there get very stressed out about getting their kids into schools. The way Brighton is laid out means that if you don’t get a spot in a secondary close by, children get a bus into the centre and then out of the centre to get to school (lots of people at my school did this). Having said that, it was a great place to grow up.

I went to university in Newcastle. It was a lovely place and the beaches were fantastic. Again, it’s become far more expensive though.

FoxtrotOscarPoppet · 31/01/2021 12:49

Chichester - quite nice.
Brighton - wouldn’t bother, bit of a hole. Hove is slightly better.

BluebellCockleshell123 · 31/01/2021 12:50

Barcelona Grin

mustbebetter · 31/01/2021 12:52

brighton is brilliant - culture, sea, fun, lovely countryside nr by, but blimmin expensive for property.

Ariela · 31/01/2021 12:53

I once lived on the northern outskirts of Southampton. It was great, as you had culture & shops and cinema and skating rink (think that may have gone now) in Southampton, a short drive and you were in Winchester, you could head west to the New Forest & Christchurch/Bournemouth - good night life, pop across to the Isle of Wight (often a day trip & take bicycles) or head east to Chichester (good theatre etc) Bognor & Worthing - all within 45 minutes drive. A bit further west was Weymouth and Swanage both of which I love.
Moved for the job, sadly.

Vintagevixen · 31/01/2021 12:54

Somewhere along the Sussex coast near to Brighton?

Then you would also have quick access to London for city visits.

scubadub · 31/01/2021 12:54

Yep but I'm in Ireland

jclm · 31/01/2021 12:56

Another vote for Swansea. Can't beat It!! How much have you got to buy a house with? We can help you look :-)
