To put a super king duvet on a king-size bed?

Just that. I like the look of it hanging over the sides. Does anyone have this? Is it too much?

We've done it for the past 20 years. We love it!!

We have a king duvet on a double bed. I like to be snuggled into my duvet so like the extra width.

Crimeismymiddlename · 30/01/2021 23:01

I have a king size on a small boy me-it just looks so much better

JovialNickname · 30/01/2021 23:37

You genuinely need a consensus from the general public before you'd do this?

Ponoka7 · 30/01/2021 23:47

I thought it was usual to buy one size bigger duvet. I'm single, will never share my bed with anyone again and have a small double size bed and a double duvet.

Cowgran · 31/01/2021 03:48

I always size up for the duvet otherwise there isn't enough overhang for my liking.

It's a lot of money, and a a trip to the unventilated Post office to return unsuitable purchases is high risk!

I thought everyone did this? That's why bedding sets sell the fitted sheet separately.

UsernameFail · 31/01/2021 10:00

I've just bought an emperor duvet for our super king. I thought I was being clever but oh no, it appears all you clever people knew already!

IloveJudgeJudy · 31/01/2021 10:36

Just to be contrary 😉 I wouldn't like a superking duvet on a king-sized bed. We have a king bed and matching duvet. It looks just fine with just the right amount of overhang. I do get having a bigger duvet on a normal double as that sized bed is really too small for two people.

I'm in bed now, discussing this with DH and he agrees and is a man so I must be right 😁.

It's the law.Grin

I'd managed 110 positive responses until this. What have you done? !!! I just ordered it!!! I thought I was safe!!!

@UsernameFail where did you get it from and is it hard to find linens? I've always sized up but haven't since we've had a superking size bed

UsernameFail · 31/01/2021 18:04

It is difficult to find emperor size. You dont get as much choice but Soak & Sleep, John Lewis and White Company all do the size.

I bought some beautiful French linen from Soak & Sleep and after one night, the linen softens so much our super king cover becomes an emperor! In the summer we didn't care so much but as it's got colder I land up with the thin end!

UsernameFail · 31/01/2021 18:04

Ooh that was for @HorseOfPhillipMoss

Its the best way.

But does get annoying when buying sets of bedding

Sinful8 · 31/01/2021 18:13

Also silk filed duvet is amazing it hugs you perfectly. Pricey though about 150 I think you'd pay for a super king

AntonMeyersNo1Fan · 31/01/2021 18:24

We have superking on superking which was ok until this pesky global pandemic meant that dh is home every night to share it with me Angry. If it wasn’t such a nice expensive I’d be getting 2 doubles so that the nightly icy blast wafting when dh goes to the toilet yet again stops Wink

Silverstreaks · 31/01/2021 18:37

I bought a king size quilt for a double bed. It was awful. If you get too hot you have an enormous amount of heavy quilt and cover to shove into the middle where it takes up loads of space and makes for an uncomfortable night of sleep.
It sounds counter intuitive but two singles are the way to go. 10.5 tog for the man and 7.5 Tog for the hot flushy woman. Perfection in our household.

Dessicator · 31/01/2021 19:06

We had two duvets, as my husband was always pulling my bit of duvet off me. Then my husband used to roll over and his duvet would fall on the floor so he'd pinch mine. We went back to the biggest duvet.

HorseOfPhillipMoss · 31/01/2021 20:28

@Silverstreaks mum?? 😁

Cowgran · 31/01/2021 21:14

@Silverstreaks king on a double is two sizes up. I've always used a queen duvet on double beds and it's fine.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 31/01/2021 21:18

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

I think we have a single duvet on a king-size bed - at least that's what it seems like on my side. Hmm
I've got a cot bumper in that case.

Just as well I sleep hot.

MoveAsideCherry · 03/02/2021 14:14

@cowgran in the uk we don't have queen but single, double, king, superking

MoveAsideCherry · 03/02/2021 14:15

Also i believe if you are in America your king is closer in size to our superking and the sizes differ.
