Is having three perfumes greedy?

How many perfumes do you have? Normally I have one day perfume and one going out perfume (which is seriously underused at the moment).

Now I'm about to buy a new bottle of my usual perfume but I also want to try another one - I cant help but feel kind of greedy though?

Also, perfume can last a very long time if stored out of heat and light. Ideally, in its box in a drawer or cupboard. I've got some perfume that's well over 50 years old and it smells incredible. It still has its box so whoever had it before me looked after it.

Hi OP
I've got the following perfumes
Chanel No5
Chanel Allure Sensuelle
Dior Hypnotic Poison
Fracas Robert Piquet
Just Cavilli Roberto Cavilli
Angel Thierry Mugler
Clinique Aromatics Elixir
Clinique Wrappings
Jean Paul Gaultier 2
Mon Guerlain Intense
Gucci Bloom Ambrosia di Fiori
Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal By Night
and a tin of L'ARTISAN perfumes

Unicornsbumhole · 30/01/2021 17:00

My absolute favourite is creed spring flowers, lasts forever but costs a fortune, I see no issue with having more than one perfume, in fact my husband has about 4 or 5 aftershaves on the go

DieSchottin93 · 30/01/2021 17:03

3 is nothing, I've got about 12 perfumes/eau de toilettes on the go just now. My 2 favourite brands are Calvin Klein and Ghost though so I can usually buy them at reasonable prices Smile

AprilThe8th · 30/01/2021 17:12

15 atm.

bebarkered · 30/01/2021 17:15

I forgot, I've also got Jimmy Choo

ButtWormHole · 30/01/2021 17:16

Just the one - where do I find samples?

bestbitsbetter · 30/01/2021 17:17

I was just thinking about ordering some perfume, and then saw this thread!

My 'general' one is Princess by Vera Wang, because it's light, sweet and cheap on Amazon.

My favourite is Chanel Chance eau tendre, which is the slightly pink version of Chance. It's a bit lighter, more citrussy-sweet, and I LOVE it.

Jeremyironseverything · 30/01/2021 17:18

The Christmas before last I asked for three expensive ones as I'd fallen in love with them. Added to my usual two, I've now got more than I ever have... Since the first lockdown I rarely wear any of them. No point if no-one ever gets closer than two metres.

AwkwardSquad · 30/01/2021 17:21

@ButtWormHole

Just the one - where do I find samples?
I’m taking part in a blind testing of samples organised by the beauty retailer Escentual. Seemed like a bit of fun whilst we’re all locked down, with a social element. The February selection is based around ‘chypre’ which I believe comprises citrus, oak moss, patchouli and amber notes.
LadyWhistledownthe1st · 30/01/2021 17:23

Oh gosh no! I have 3 categories - work, out and day to day. Oh and holiday ones 😂
I do love perfume.
I’ve got a few in each “category”

Treat yourself!!!

Given that most people have said it's not greedy, I don't understand why the voting is roughly 50/50/.
Is it because people weren't sure what the vote was. I voted YABU to consider it greedy, but read another way it could have been YANBU to buy another perfume, so maybe that's how others voted.

LunaNorth · 30/01/2021 17:30

Ahem.

Nah, you’re fine.

Aneley · 30/01/2021 18:00

Around 20, I think. Several are full sized because those are my 'go-to' classics, then there's a few in mid-size bottles (those that I don't wear regularly) and then small bottles of those I'm not yet sure about.

MissBattleaxe · 30/01/2021 18:15

@ButtWormHole Here's my recent blog post about how to get perfume samples bit.ly/ISDS2021

MissMarpleDarling · 30/01/2021 18:40

I've got loads peopke have got me throughout the years but I only wear my fav. Defo buy it! 3 isn't alot.

happymummy12345 · 30/01/2021 18:50

I have several on the go. I also have several body sprays and several deodorants as well. I alternate which ones I use so they last ages. I like to have a choice. Price ranges from expensive to not expensive at all, I go with what I personally like, price is irrelevant to me, if I like it I'll buy it and wear it.

happymummy12345 · 30/01/2021 19:02

To clarify because I don't want my previous post to sound or seem like I'm boasting. I don't mean price is irrelevant because I can afford any perfumes I want or anything like that. I mean that I don't go on or by the price of a perfume. I go by if I like the fragrance then I'll buy it and wear it.
My favourite perfume costs over £100 for a 100ml bottle. Another perfume I absolutely love costs between £20 to £25 for a 100ml bottle.

StepOutOfLine · 30/01/2021 22:34

I've got about 250, so, on balance, nope. Not greedy Grin
I have my perfume "wardrobes" (old wicker baskets) summer, winter, my vintage collection, my samples. I have six or seven versions of some classics that I collect.

Pukkatea · 30/01/2021 22:45

Perfume was my lockdown obsession. I dread to think how much I've spent on it in the last year. I discovered a love of gourmand notes and jasmine. I have a wishlist of about 20.

partyatthepalace · 30/01/2021 22:47

Love a big perfume collection 🌷

I've got 74. I've been writing a perfume blog for 8 years though.

Is Jean Patou Chaldée nice? I want to try it.

LadyJaye · 30/01/2021 22:52

I wear perfume every day, even if I don't leave the house, and I have a particular thing for high-end scents - my favourites are from Penhaligon and Diptyque, as well as smaller independent houses.

Smell is highly tied to mood, and I wear a scent either according to how I feel or to make myself feel better - money well spent!

MissBattleaxe · 31/01/2021 12:03

@Oreservoir I haven't tried that one, although I do have Jean Patou 1000. According to Fragrantica ( a brilliant website by the way) the notes in Chaldee are orange flower, hyacinth, narcissus , jasmine, lilac, amber, incense and vanilla.

Jean Patou was brought by LVMH two years ago so they are no longer in production. You can still buy them, so do so! but when they're gone they won't be making any more.
