Is having three perfumes greedy?

210 replies

CrotchBurn · 30/01/2021 08:56

How many perfumes do you have? Normally I have one day perfume and one going out perfume (which is seriously underused at the moment).

Now I'm about to buy a new bottle of my usual perfume but I also want to try another one - I cant help but feel kind of greedy though?

But Chance is quite the marmite fragrance.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 30/01/2021 09:06

chance is lovely. the initial scent is a bit strong but the lingering scent is gorgeous and really lasts for me.

too many perfumes is not a thing!

Piranesio · 30/01/2021 09:06

I have loads. For summer day, summer night, winter day, winter night, posh do, big night out, and so on.

Perfume helps me evoke a mood, so I have a drawer full!

daisypond · 30/01/2021 09:06

I have none. I am not keen on perfume. I gave mine away to my daughter.

canigooutyet · 30/01/2021 09:07

I currently have at least 15 perfumes ranging fro handbag to full size. Why stand there smelling a few, trying to narrow it down to just one when you like them all? Assuming of course you can afford it.

Boboparadise · 30/01/2021 09:08

@CrotchBurn

And for those of you who are nosy (I am 😂) the one I want to buy to try is Chance - I've never knowingly smelt it!
Chanel chance is my absolute favourite ever. I wear the eau fraiche one. It's beautiful
Fiveletters · 30/01/2021 09:08

I think I have about 10, possibly more. Treat yourself!

I like Chanel Chance, but I prefer the Eau Tendre.

redandwhite1 · 30/01/2021 09:08

Err no

I think I have about 12!

pontiouspilates · 30/01/2021 09:08

No, I have 8 on the go at the moment , one of which is Chance..mine range from.Jo Loves/Jo Malone, Tom Ford and Chanel. It's nice to have variety!

ree348 · 30/01/2021 09:09

I have over 20 bottles! Owning 3 is DEFINITELY not greedy! Go treat yourself! :-)

VettiyaIruken · 30/01/2021 09:09

I don't have any because they trigger my asthma but no, 3 isn't greedy. No number is greedy. Have as many as you like.

CrotchBurn · 30/01/2021 09:09

@Boboparadise

I've read that Tendre and Fraiche are lovely too, but I'm going to start with the classic version.

Re buying stuff blind, I quite like to do that because of the surprise factor. Just adds an extra thrill to my sad Covid life. If something doesnt work for me I sell it on at a loss, sure, but I dont mind

Wait till you discover sample sites!

I used to get mine in The Perfumed Court. You can choose your size. I went through a phase of having about 30 teeny tiny samples of some of the most legendary perfumes ever made. I'd hang around the perfume boards on makeupalley do loads of research on notes and sillage. It was such a fun time!

I discovered some real gems that way and now I have 3 that are my all time favourites. Sadly I rarely wear them anymore due to my job where you can only wear fragrance if it's virtually unnoticeable. So I have a "work" perfume which is coincidentally - Chance!

The one I use is the Eau Tendre one but there are several Chance variations so my advice is buy samples of all of them and choose your favourite. Then you don't even have to buy a 50ml as some of the sample sites do decent decants like 20ml which will last a good year if not more.

CrotchBurn · 30/01/2021 09:10

@ree348
20 perfumes... Okay, sold! I can do 3 😁

About 15. Different day, different mood, different scent.

ivegotthisyeah · 30/01/2021 09:12

I have over 20 I am a collector perfume is my thing

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 30/01/2021 09:12

Haha! Take a look at the perfumista threads on Style & Beauty if you ever want to make yourself feel better.

I have a few dozen. I don’t have a ‘signature’ and it can take me ten years or more to finish a bottle. They will keep a very long time if stored somewhere dark, but they degrade very quickly in the light.

IMissFrance · 30/01/2021 09:12

Haha I hope not. I usually have between 5 and 10 on the go. But some are a few years old. In general I will get one from either DH or my mum each birthday/Christmas and then will get one at duty free before my main holiday in a year.

I don't wear it most days although have been more this lockdown as I got a new bottle of my favourite for Christmas and thought it silly I hadn't finished my previous bottle - may as well enjoy it.

LadyPenelope68 · 30/01/2021 09:12

@Candiscophonous
And I wear the posh ones during the day, because heaven knows there are barely any pleasures left these days. They enhance my life enormously.
I’ve started doing this as well and with clothes/shoes/bags as like you say, there’s not much pleasure left these days. I’m a Primary Teacher and one little boy said to me on Thursday (keyworker child in school) that he loves coming to my class as I “smell like the most beautiful thing in the world”. Made my day 😁

shittestxmasever · 30/01/2021 09:14

I have an uncountable amount Grin
I used to wear Chance to work til I went to visit my mum before work one day and she told me it smelt like 'dirty ladies' (Hmm)

I then found out that's the scent my ex-DH's OW used to wear religiously so now I can't smell it without thinking "DIRTY HORRIBLE LADYYYY!" GrinGrinGrin sorry if you walk past me in the street in the future and I scowl at you

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 30/01/2021 09:15

That is so lovely @LadyPenelope68. What were you wearing?

Spied · 30/01/2021 09:21
  1. A mix of Dior x3, Mugler x2, Chopard, Escentuals, Paco Rabanne and Carolina Herrera.
I enjoy wearing all but what I'd really like is a signature scent. I've bought all these in my quest to find 'the one'.
Calmandmeasured1 · 30/01/2021 09:22

I have 6 favourites on the go at once. As a result they all run out around the same time. I wear perfume every day usually, although I've not bothered quite as much during lockdown.

Daisy829 · 30/01/2021 09:22

I have loads! Some mini bottles some full. They are mainly gifts that build up. Chance is so nice & the scent lasts for ages too.

I also do that for the surprise factor lol. I love ordering the secret gifts from Yankee Bundles as I have no idea what's coming. Sad but true lol
