I was so Remain, I was devastated when we left. But the EU trying to steal our vac and casually invoking Article 16 has really left me aghast. I can't believe they are lashing out this way, I don't understand why.

Listening in what context did they say this ? Do you have the link to whole conversation ?

ListeningQuietly · 30/01/2021 23:06

This thread is about the actions of the EU pushing people to believe in Brexit
not sure how any of my posts have diverted from that

and where I am from / live is really sideways to the reality of Brexit

Ihatefish · 30/01/2021 23:06

All the EU has done is act exactly like many of the well informed Leave Voters said they would in such circumstances, the structure of the EU esp the commission meant that this type of reaction was inevitable at some point. The history of tensions between the MS is and always was a ticking time bomb.

What I hope this has done has made people think about all the well structured arguments that often appear both on here and other sites which are dismissed out of hand with shouts of racist, stupid, selfish conspiracy theorist etc. What I hope is that it has encouraged critical experimental thinking. But probably not.

Not when you claiming to know how all the European nations feel about the vaccination mistake & Article 16.

As a European with family in 3 countries I disagree.

Avondklok · 30/01/2021 23:13

The EU want their contractually agreed vaccines. Be all end all. For obvious reasons. It's not about Brexit or punishing the U.K. or stealing vaccines. This is a story hyped up by British press about evil bullying EU.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 30/01/2021 23:14

Listening i apologised for my error

What so non of yesterday happened ?
I fully understand them wanting to get the vaccinations they ordered but should of remained between them and AZ

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 30/01/2021 23:17

Listening it is kind of relevent where you live as if you don't live in uk , brexit won't really matter as the uk are irrelevant to eu

UnityUnited · 30/01/2021 23:20

Why did Michel Barnier tell the EU to back down if all this was about was the EU wanting their contractually agreed vaccines?

marbellamarc · 30/01/2021 23:21

The EU want their contractually agreed vaccines.

Except that it's not clear what the contract actually agrees with regards to diverting UK made vaccine. Or do you know more?

marbellamarc · 30/01/2021 23:23

This is a story hyped up by British press about evil bullying EU.

The EU threw ROI under the bus & then towed back when criticised. No need for hype.

Avondklok · 30/01/2021 23:27

Do you even know what article 16 is, why it was mentioned in relation to the vaccine?Boris threatened last week to invoke it.

marbellamarc · 30/01/2021 23:29

Who's that for?

Avondklok · 30/01/2021 23:30

The U.K. have spent 4 years on proposals that undermine the GFA. There is now a border in the Irish Sea causing all manner of supply issues. The EU had one tiny blip, since corrected and this is all their fault?

marbellamarc · 30/01/2021 23:30

I have criticised them heavily for that & the main reason I voted remain.

Evil bullying of the EU 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Good grief I don't even know where to start with that🤦‍♀️

Yes the press hype everything up bit if you knock that away. Then the bullying if you want to call it that. Lands squarely at the tactics and behaviour of the EU.

AZ is a non profit vaccine

They had yield issues after a late start because of EU

They spoke to EU and already agreed to try and up the delivery as soon as possible

Any issues should have been spoken about behind closed doors

The EU politicians were slagging off the UK and saying we are taking there vaccine

The government has always said once the UK citizens safe. We will help other countries with vaccine. The government and oxford scientists were the once to ask AZ to do this non profit.

The Irish boarder is not something use as a weapon or negotiation tool. That is dangerous.

So yes the press got all daft but for once they were not making a mountain out of a mole hill.

marbellamarc · 30/01/2021 23:33

The vaccination handling is not a blip.

What are you referring to by "all this"?

UnityUnited · 30/01/2021 23:36

one tiny blip Shock

What the heck are you on about a slip???

This is way more than a slip. That is why not just the UK but Ireland, USA, the WHO and a lot of other countries has condemn it. As well as some countries with in the EU. Even Macron has said he was not consulted and is unhappy.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 30/01/2021 23:38

*blip

Suzeyshoes · 30/01/2021 23:41

Boris Johnson and his government have acted massive twats the whole way through the negotiation process. He broke the law on several occasions. The EU didn’t. Sounds like a bit of ‘we can act like shits but they can’t’ to me.

The EU has acted with such utter class in comparison, until now.
Honestly, I think they’re allowed a moment’s weakness, especially if it means maintaining the aim of the EU. ie, to protect its own.

So yes, to change from remain to leave because of one singular act is utterly stupid.

UnityUnited · 30/01/2021 23:43

I can’t believe the hypocrisy I am reading on this thread.

Avondklok · 30/01/2021 23:45

What damage has been caused by the EU yesterday evening vs supply issues to NI caused by British govt?

marbellamarc · 30/01/2021 23:47

one tiny blip

It's disingenuous to palm it off whilst simultaneously pretending you care about Ireland.

marbellamarc · 30/01/2021 23:48

From the Taoiseach

“The tone of my discussions with president von der Leyen was reasonable and constructive but also firm, pointing out the issues and the implications, which the president took time to reflect and meeting with her own advisers.
“We had a number of discussions and I think the president understood very quickly – this should not have happened very clearly but there was a quick realization by the commission of the implications and it reversed its decision.”
Mr Martin said the Government had received no advance warning from the European Commission of its intention to activate article 16 and that would be something that would form part of future discussions with the commission.–

Not a blip
