My neighbours have put their house on the market recently so I had a nosey online and saw that they have a toilet in the bedroom Grin. A bath, sink and loo but no screening or bifold doors for privacy.
Even if there wasn't anyone in the room while you used it it's bloody odd isn't it?
I don't get it. Have seen it quite often on escape to the country/grand designs etc...
If you have one why? Confused

I thought you meant several toilets together!
I do remember a nightclub where they had some double cubicles in the ladies. Possibly in the gents but I never went in there to check!

Someone asked why I would want an ensuite if the family bathroom is close. Answer because its mine. The bubbles are mine and ds doesn't help himself. The bath stays clean as no one goes hill running and cleans their trainers in it. No one cleans their teeth in the shower and spits the debris out as they stand there. I find no badly bagged condoms in it and no-one shaves and fails to wipe out the sink. Towels are hung up and flannels are used for faces not motorbikes. Just a few reasons I like to only share with dh.

I’ve never heard of this before!

avamiah · 29/01/2021 18:03

I went to a fancy hotel with a boyfriend many many years ago (lol) and there was one of those free standing baths in the middle of the room .
The shower, toilet, wash basin was in the en-suite thank god.
To be honest with you that’s not my cup of tea and I couldn’t sleep in a room with a toilet looking at me .
Lol

No way, my OH stinks the bathroom out, wouldn’t want the bedroom to be the same 🤢

So ask him to use a different loo then. Does your en suite not have a window that opens?
TrixieMixie · 29/01/2021 18:38

My grandparents had an outside loo and thought toilets in the house were unhygienic and horrible - far better to keep such functions at the far end of the back yard, in their view. Goodness knows what they would have thought about a loo in the bedroom - though they of course did have a pot under the bed.

I have an en suite in my bedroom . I'm retired and disabled so it makes life easier . I live with family so they had it installed to make my life easier . The other good thing is that they are able to be a band lower on their council tax because of installing this for me .

Ginfordinner · 29/01/2021 18:48

I think that the anti en suite mustn't clean their bathrooms very often. Ours doesn't smell.

sorryiasked · 29/01/2021 18:48

A house we viewed had this, it was very strange, couldn't understand why they hadn't just put a wall in.

We don’t shower consecutively! We shower at different times

Don’t you all have a shower in the morning before you start your day?

ZippedyDooDa · 29/01/2021 18:57

I would never use a toilet in the middle of a bedroom (unless I lived alone); but worse, I would not like to go to bed with a toilet staring me in the face.
Stayed in a hotel room once where the shower cubilce was just in the bedroom. Odd and horrible.

Middersweekly · 29/01/2021 18:58

Yep that is weird! I wouldn’t like to be sitting in bed with a full view of DH having a dump in the toilet 🚽
We have an en-suit but there’s a small walkway to it in our bedroom and it has a door!!!
We did once live in a house that had sinks in every bedroom which didn’t strike me as odd but one of the bedrooms had a small shower installed in a wardrobe which I thought was bizzare! It was a large rental so I guessed that sometimes they leased individual rooms to people.

christmasathomeagain · 29/01/2021 19:00

I love my en suit. Best thing about our house. We did have a weekend away with a room with a bath in the bedroom. There was a separate en suit.

I wouldn't want it in my room all the time as its nice to be able to shut the door.

winkywonky · 29/01/2021 19:01

Wow OP, yes that toilet is super weird. I love our ensuite but each to their own. I think it also depends on the size of the room. Our bathroom backs on to our bedroom, however our ensuite is at the other far end of the room which is a decent size. I could hear people pissing in the night far clearer from the bathroom than the ensuite! Think it's all about design probably.

Wannabegreenfingers · 29/01/2021 19:01

The hatred for ensuites is weird. I love mine. I close the door. No shit wafts through to the bedroom.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 29/01/2021 19:02

I saw a grand designs recently - gorgeous house of course but with a huge bath plonked in the bedroom - NO.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 29/01/2021 19:08

I love my en suite and will nip I during the night for a wee but either of us would dream of using it for a poo if the other one was in the bedroom, we wait or use the downstairs loo if urgent. No would never have a loo openly in the actual bedroom.

Weird.

I like my bedroom not smelling of shit.

FamilyOfAliens · 29/01/2021 19:15

How do you cope in hotels?

This has already been answered several times on the thread.

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 29/01/2021 19:16

I really don't understand the hatred of en-suited on this site, I am have recently acquired one and as a lady of a certain who needs to pee multiple times each night, it's quite revolutionary. It does have a door though!

winniestone37 · 29/01/2021 19:20

Crying and the scathing judgements on people who have en-suites 😂 It feels a bit like the lady doth protest too much- so bitter that they don’t have an extra porcelain throne they bitch about and put down anyone who does.
