It’s getting to us all but stop with the pile on

awaits pile on but - the last three threads I’ve looked at have people falling over themselves to be vicious.
Yes MN “tells it like it is” but right now it’s like someone could write something as innocuous as “I’ve burned the toast for dinner” and within a few posts they will be accused of not giving a fuck about the planet, trying to poison their family and probably told that their kids will despise them when they’re grown up.

Wtf is wrong with everyone?

SynchroSwimmer · 27/01/2021 23:44

It’s almost as bad as what has been going on on Facebook - on the Overheard in Aldi page.
People being put to the sword over tinned potato/frozen potato/packet potato or the actual real potato 😂

BeautifulStar · 27/01/2021 23:44

You can only moan/whinge/complain if you are dead.

MiddlesexGirl · 27/01/2021 23:46

YANBU. The replies on some of the threads where the OP is clearly suffering..... I just can't believe there are people so lacking in empathy. I'm so glad I don't have any of them in my life. Probably should report them really I guess.

StormcloakNord · 27/01/2021 23:48

Honestly I'll stick my neck out here & say I've totally contributed to this.

Not in a malicious way, I'd never sit here and actively think "fuck you OP I'm about to ruin your day" but I'm way more snippy with my replies & it's because I'm just constantly on edge/in a foul mood cause of the world imploding around me (dramatic, I know)

I do need to cool my jets & quite a few times I've typed something out and deleted it after reading it Blush

marbellamarc · 27/01/2021 23:49

I also love all the

"is that all you have to worry about?"

"get some perspective"

"people are dying"

comments. I mean if you can apply that to one thread then you can do it to all of them & "talk" should be empty.

Stupid fuckers!

2021namechanger · 27/01/2021 23:49

@MiddlesexGirl so true. Am sure some of the same posters talk at length about how lockdown is affecting mental health - then go on to give someone a good kicking who probably came here to seek a bit of help.

OP posts:
Emeraldshamrock · 27/01/2021 23:50

Yep two crazy threads with frayed tempers.
Didn't read the thread with the new mum. Sad
I think we're all slowly losing it.
You and your stupid fecking toast. Grin

ooohbriefcase · 27/01/2021 23:50

@Ileflottante I hate people like that.
OP: I want to go no contact with my mil..(explains why etc)
MN: mil's get unnecessarily treated badly by dil's like you. Mines dead. You should be grateful you still have one, even if she is serial killer.

ThreadKillxr · 27/01/2021 23:51

@marbellamarc yes, exactly. That same principal literally applies to every thread.

2021namechanger · 27/01/2021 23:53

@StormcloakNord last summer I did this. Got way too overinvested in a thread and was an absolute arse - it was about something stupid -and my ire wasn’t directed at the OP.
It actually put me in a bad mood and that made me stop and think a bit.

Sparklingbrook · 27/01/2021 23:54

There's been some right old cobblers posted on here lately TBF.I am not surprised some posters are getting a bit Hmm.

If you think someone has posted something that breaks Talk Guidelines hit the report button and let MNHQ decide.

marbellamarc · 27/01/2021 23:57

I also get confused why it's ok to tell the OP to get some perspective & question why they are posting something but that principle isn't applied to the posters own response.

Reminds me of all the lockdown posts about "I went for a jog, the park was packed" or "I drove to work & couldn't believe how much traffic there was on the roads". Surely a tiny part of their brain must be able to comprehend that if they had a valid reason to be out others might do too??!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

2021namechanger · 27/01/2021 23:57

@Sparklingbrook I’ve found myself hitting the report button on numerous occasions!

It’a the absolute vindictiveness that I find sad. Yep - op you were a twat to burn the toast is one thing. But it’s more like “your children don’t deserve a mother like you - what with your toast burning”.

OP posts:
2021namechanger · 27/01/2021 23:59

@marbellamarc yep. Huge projection from posters who then accuse the OP (or just another poster) of being unable to be objective!

Posters are allowed to disagree with all the drama queen who are making an absolute mountain of nothing. Yes, it's dark early, yes, it's probably raining and yes, we are all bored. No need to go to ridiculous lengths to make yourself more interesting.

You can check threads pre-covid: at least a couple of times a month you'll find a thread about how nasty MN is becoming, and how it was all love and rainbows in the "good old days".

It's not worst or better, the lockdown probably restrict the possible thread subjects. Less complaints about the school gates cliques, party neighbours, nasty colleagues..

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 28/01/2021 00:03

or "I drove to work & couldn't believe how much traffic there was on the roads". Surely a tiny part of their brain must be able to comprehend that if they had a valid reason to be out others might do too??!!

not really. There was next to no traffic during the first lockdown. Cars were pretty much only driven by genuine critical workers who needed to work.

The traffic is now pretty much back to normal. As we are supposed to be on lockdown, it's obvious everybody is suddenly a critical worker.

marbellamarc · 28/01/2021 00:08

not really. There was next to no traffic during the first lockdown. Cars were pretty much only driven by genuine critical workers who needed to work.

Miss the point much. The point was if you are out driving & you think the roads are busy why assume you have valid reasons & others don't?

2021namechanger · 28/01/2021 00:10

@Iknowwhatudidlastsummer Not sure what threads you mean specifically but those probably aren’t what I’m referring to.
I’m not referring to covid threads either. Those are full of people in one camp or the other and unsurprisingly polarised.

I’ve been on MN since about 2010 and not adverse to erm robust debate.

Agree with all of that.

Lockdown has eliminated the usual AIBU favourite bunfight subjects. Sad Grin
I yearn for a good old 'reclining seats on an airplane' AIBU.

marbellamarc · 28/01/2021 00:12

On a side point it makes sense there is more traffic on the roads this time & not just because everyone is a key worker who has to be on site.

StealthPolarBear · 28/01/2021 00:16

Yes I've noticed this too and I've also noticed myself taking my frustration out on here. In fact my post on another thread today, if it's not already deleted.

Yes, it feels as if every single brain fart has to be posted as a thread on MN asap. There should be a 'are you sure' button after you press 'post'.
Viviennemary · 28/01/2021 00:18

If that's all you've got to complain about think yourself lucky.
