To ask what conspiracy theories you actually believe are true?

Following on from the thread where OP was looking for conspiracy theories for her kids to look at, I was wondering whether anyone actually believes any of the outlandish conspiracies.

We’ve all read about how people believe that Elvis didn’t die/Paul McCartney did die/the royals are all lizards/the earth is flat. But I’ve never encountered anyone who actually believes any of them, only people who talk about people who (apparently) believe in them.

So, what conspiracies do you actually believe and why?

Additionally, any or none of the following could have been the case: the seatbelt could have been faulty; somebody could have said "Here, let me do up your belt for you" and only pretended to; somebody could have discreetly unclipped it a second before the crash; somebody could have tampered with the belt so that it would break on impact.

All of which could have technically happened, but didn't. 30 seconds on Google will show you multiple images of Diana sitting in the back seat of that car, not wearing a seatbelt. Unless you think every Google image has been faked by sinister forces.

Sadly, these otherwise very interesting threads usually seem to go the same way: some people, instead of just giving reasons/thoughts/evidence as to why they disagree on a possible suggestion, feel the need for a full-on ad hominem attack as to why anybody not loving Big Brother questioning the official line on anything is clearly.... .

And yet, bizarrely, these same people will often hurl the same accusations of rank stupidity at you if you don't automatically agree that the governments of places like China, Iran, Russia, Syria and North Korea are conspiring to deceive or exploit corrupt practices across the board. Our leaders are all good and theirs are all bad - 'FACT'.

Western governments will often arrest relative nobodies on suspicion of conspiracy to murder/terrorism/other serious crime - and sometimes find them guilty of it; yet to question whether people who are intelligent, powerful and influential enough to get into government might also sometimes be bad and conspire to do evil things is a clear sign of your own ridiculousness.

It would save us all a lot of time if we could find an indisputable way to draw up a definitive list of all the people in the world and know which ones might conspire to do bad things and which ones most definitely never would; but then, who's to say that the former group wouldn't just conspire to mask their true intentions?

fivethirtyeight.com/features/qanons-obsession-with-savethechildren-is-making-it-harder-to-save-kids-from-traffickers/

An article, which features comments from senior persons across various anti-child-trafficking organizations, about how Pizzagate/QAnon believers are making their job (i.e., actually protecting real victims rather than indulging in extremely far-fetched, politically-motivated conspiracies) more difficult.

This stuff is not harmless.

@Extremecreme

I’ve just found the video of Meghan squatting down, heels together in the later stages of pregnancy (is this even possible?)

She stands up and her bump pops out with an audible ‘boo’ and she looks momentarily shocked but then composed herself.

I’d not heard this conspiracy before, I’m amazed and yes, I think her pregnancy was a fake.

She was 5 months' pregnant. I was never particularly agile, but I could squat down and stand relatively easily at 8 months. The supposed pop sound in the video is clearly actually a knock coming from somewhere else.
WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/01/2021 03:21

Unless you think every Google image has been faked by sinister forces.

How many people actually had access to get those clear pictures? You don't need to be a sinister force to have access to PhotoShop. The images very well may have been true, genuine, exactly as the facts showed - I'm just saying that, in the face of so many concerns from so many people - enough for there to be an inquiry in the first place - we cannot automatically take anybody's word for anything. Or do you think Diana alone among the royals and their close associates was the only one who could possibly have been lying, when she spoke openly about her fears of them 'arranging' a car crash to get rid of her?

Arobase · 28/01/2021 03:28

If the Royal Family really wanted Diana dead, it would have been child's play to arrange it in the UK by methods that would never have been detected. Why would they decide instead to arrange it in another country over whose police and medical authorities they had no influence, and in an accident that would have been entirely survivable by the simple expedient of wearing a seatbelt?

Papatron · 28/01/2021 03:31

JFK lone gunman... followed by Jack Ruby killing LHO. Just doesn't seem credible.
Jill Dando.
David Kelly.
Epstein.
Also if you look carefully at the Madeleine McCann case there are a lot of things that are not quite right. We will probably never know what happened but I'm convinced there are a lot of people who know more than they are letting on. Most mysteries have one potential solution which is much more probable than the other theories. But in that case there is no theory which works to tie up all the loose ends and oddities.

I read recently (maybe on here) the proof that the earth is not flat is that if it was cats would have pushed everything of the edge by now...

I agree. It's funny how many of the same people who are convinced that the Russians rigged Brexit etc are also convinced that everything our government says on Covid-19 or anything else is always 100% true. And who will happily believe that Putin killed his own citizens and implicated the Chechens in a false flag operation, but don't think our leaders will ever lie. There is also a tendency to believe that evil things were only done in the past. E.g. there are documented things like Iran-Contra and various CIA activities in the 1960s. And Watergate. And there is a history of Royal family misbehaviour and murder throughout the ages. But people imagine that we live in more enlightened times all of a sudden and corruption is a thing of the past. Of course the flip side is that just because one conspiracy theory turns out to be true, doesn't mean that every batshit crazy theory is also true. Which sadly seems to be the view of some 'conspiranoids' that I know.
EmmanuelleMakro · 28/01/2021 03:44

Love this thread!
I tend to assume non-conspiracy on the whole, but so much gets covered up that I definitely fo know of. Friend working for a tabloid has loads of info known to any journo that doesn’t get published but likes to gossip about privately.
Not connected to that but there was a very interesting book I read s few years back called Dark Moon’ about the landings. I heard that those points had been de-bunked on the NASA website (eg the fluttering flag/shadows in the wrong place etc) but never bothered to look

KathleenTurnerOverdrive · 28/01/2021 03:51

You don't need to be a sinister force to have access to PhotoShop

No, blur you have to be bloody good to doctor thousands and thousands of versions of multiple images so not a single version remains and obscure any trace of it having been photoshopped.

Then track down every paparazzi who was at the scene and check they didn't have an stray film depicting her sans seatbelt and then take out or silence anyone and everyone who saw her in the car that night lest they contradicted the official version of events.

You are really not thinking or are trying yourself in knots to avoid admitting your theory is completely unsustainable.

Kljnmw3459 · 28/01/2021 03:59

Only a total fool would think that officials never lie or cover up anything or that media doesn't lie. Questioning the official narrative is a part of democracy. Holding people to account as well.

I agree with you too and come from a family of scientists who would also agree

The ones who are so against this and shut it down with such vitriol have clearly not explored cyclical patterns

KathleenTurnerOverdrive · 28/01/2021 04:04

Of course politicians and journalists lie.

That isn't what a conspiracy theory requires though. It requires multiple people from multiple agencies from multiple walks of life to conspire together to lie for a pre-agreed sinister and hidden reason and no one to ever break cover.

That's vastly different in scope and scale.

SquarePeggyLeggy · 28/01/2021 04:07

I don’t think Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I have others, but believe this type of internet activity is tracked...

I won't disagree with you, and obviously the general public aren't informed of everything - but some of the stuff on this thread is just bonkers!

mummytolittledragons · 28/01/2021 05:15

Personally ( and going against my catholic upbringing ) I don't believe that Jesus Christ is the son of god.
I believe he was simply an early preacher/ looney who started a religious movement. Like we frequently here about happening in the US.
He was likely married and had a family

mummytolittledragons · 28/01/2021 05:26

Why is it any Madeline comment gets deleted ? Anything else is fair game though.

mummytolittledragons · 28/01/2021 05:44

@Thewinterofdiscontent

Barrack Obama smokes. No one mentioned it ever whilst he was president though. So you can keep things quiet if you need to.
😆 it was mentioned. It was also mentioned that he quit as he is terrified of his wife 😂 He did mention how he smoked as a teen at a college conference.
