Have you had a cold since March 2020?

Just that, really!

As a visiting teacher working in a petri dish schools, this is probably my longest period of not having a cold, thanks to covid and all the increased hygiene measures. It feels slightly odd not to have had days on the sofa surrounded by a sea of tissues.

What does this mean for the common cold? I'm hoping it won't be back with a vengeance!

YABU - I've had a cold since March 2020
YANBU - I've been cold-free since then!

I have had 2! I must be really unhygienic although I caught both from my children.

Emeraldshamrock · 27/01/2021 14:23

Yes mid September DS picked it up in school it went through the house with added viral chest infection, definitely wasn't covid.

whereisthejoy · 27/01/2021 14:23

I've also wondered this OP!

I've had covid (October) and since then the odd sore throat which lasts less than 24 hours.

When someone is under the weather I think well obviously that's covid as what else is going round Grin

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 27/01/2021 14:24

1 cold in early April last year. 3 chest infections since September (dc5(3) is in nursery & has no sense of personal space). I'm asthmatic & have a heart condition so I do pick things up easily, even with a healthy lifestyle. Dh had a cold at the same time as me in April & dc1-4 all had the same cold as Dc5 in September.

CaptainMerica · 27/01/2021 14:24

I've had two - but have had a 3 year old in nursery, so fairly inevitable.

MissCalamity · 27/01/2021 14:25

Last time I had a cold was about this time last year, not for very long about 4 days or so and I was fine to still be in work.

I hope it continues!

Trulyatraditionalman · 27/01/2021 14:25

@soundofsilence1 Definitely blame the kids. Grin

Nope. I usually have 2 a year. Nothing. Fortunately I have dodged covid and hope to continue to dodge it.

Abouttimemum · 27/01/2021 14:25

I’ve had a cold probably in October time when DS first went to nursery and was ill on and off for months and brought all sorts home. I also wondered where on earth it had come from given people weren’t supposed to be going anywhere!

JillsFlapjacks · 27/01/2021 14:25

Yes I have. Kids have brought them home from school, then hug and kiss me.

Emeraldshamrock · 27/01/2021 14:26

There was a thread a few years ago, if everyone washed their hands, cleaned down areas, sneezed into their arm could the cold/flu be erased? Looks like good hygiene helps.

DahliaMacNamara · 27/01/2021 14:26

Not so far, though I don't get a huge number of colds at any time.

Ihatesandwiches · 27/01/2021 14:26

Had a nasty cold in Feb last year. Not a sniffle since :-)

BornIn78 · 27/01/2021 14:26

No cold, no sore throat, no norovirus, absolutely nothing at all here since last January - same for DH and DS.

Trulyatraditionalman · 27/01/2021 14:26

I'm now worried that the cold I will inevitably catch will be an absolutely BEAST. Surely all these measures are ultimately not very good for building the immune system? I hope I'm wrong!

linerforlife · 27/01/2021 14:27

Had a cold last March, then another in September when it seemed to rip round everyone! Nothing other than that.

AppleKatie · 27/01/2021 14:29

I’ve had one mild cold and a stomach bug. But the latter came from food I think rather than anything infectious. It’s been quite a nice change and long may it continue- although i suspect it won’t!

Harryfrog12 · 27/01/2021 14:29

No I havent had any.
Although I think I only had maybe 1 the year before covid rather than having the usual 5 a year.
As the saying goes you cant catch the same cold twice. I think ive had them all nowGrin

LaceyBetty · 27/01/2021 14:31

Good point OP. I've not had a cold in over a year.

PickAChew · 27/01/2021 14:33

I've been clear but dh had an absolute stinker back in November.

redcarbluecar · 27/01/2021 14:33

I had a mild one IN March - nothing since, and not even many of the usual on and off symptoms.

PowerhousePatty · 27/01/2021 14:35

I had one in September, thanks to DSC bringing it back from school.

gwenneh · 27/01/2021 14:37

Yes, I have -- one. The DC have also all had one. It's probably the healthiest year we've had.

It certainly caused a lot more stress and worry than colds in previous years!

Toddlerteaplease · 27/01/2021 14:38

No, and I don't know anyone else that's had one either. My colleagues are usually dropping like flies about now!

Hollyhead · 27/01/2021 14:39

I had one in early November, which to be honest in retrospect might actually have been covid, but no typical symptoms. Headache for a week, then a classic cold, then a week of being able to smell but my nose felt like I'd snorted swimming pool water up it - all cold and dry, which I've now read sufferes of covid have had.

Normally I don't get colds, one every 3-5 years.
