Have you had a cold since March 2020?

Just that, really!

As a visiting teacher working in a petri dish schools, this is probably my longest period of not having a cold, thanks to covid and all the increased hygiene measures. It feels slightly odd not to have had days on the sofa surrounded by a sea of tissues.

What does this mean for the common cold? I'm hoping it won't be back with a vengeance!

YABU - I've had a cold since March 2020
YANBU - I've been cold-free since then!

Or just read this thread:

People are gross.

MrsHusky · 27/01/2021 19:57

after years of working in nurseries, schools and retail, i generally have quite a good immune system where coughs/colds are concerned, and i've been ColdFree for a long time.. i might get a 24hr sneezeathon, but then it goes

My kids both managed to catch one in september soon as they went back, but i didnt come down with it (yay)

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 27/01/2021 20:01

We all (me, DH, 2 x dc) had colds absolutely nonstop from about June until December. We were lucky to have a few days of everyone being well before another cold kicking in - it was ridiculous! The amount of Covid tests we had between us is crazy - all negative.

SilverDragonfly1 · 27/01/2021 20:06

No, and it's been wonderful. I've been taking vitamins, getting more exercise and my adult onset asthma (caused by a bout of pneumonia and pleurisy in 2018) has vanished.

I had either 3 viruses in quick succession or one that kept recurring over dec/jan 2020 and was just wiped out entirely. Loads of coughing, both dry and productive, swollen glands, the works.

I've always suffered badly from colds though and envy the people who are able to say 'it's just a cold, they only last a few days'! Try 2 weeks plus with a lingering cough and headaches beyond that... At school, I ended up giving up my singing lessons as I had to miss half of them with coughs and colds.

Planning to keep up with hand sanitising, wearing a mask in flu season on the bus and other measures post covid in hopes that I can continue to minimise colds.

BoomBoomsCousin · 27/01/2021 20:07

I've had slight snivelling quite a few times, but I'm unsure if it's a v. minor cold or allergies. Its definitely the least cold-filled year I've had that I can remember.

Trinacham · 27/01/2021 20:08

yes, I have had at least one cold. Pretty sure I caught it at work (this is the only place I meet people!)

HeronLanyon · 27/01/2021 20:09

The cold virus must be hopping mad !

Mammyloveswine · 27/01/2021 20:10

Yes I had a nasty cold and cough!

MrsPworkingmummy · 27/01/2021 20:13

Yes, I was really poorly with a cold/covid/flu last March before testing became common. In November and December, I seemed to have a permanent cold. Now, in January, I'm full of cold again. However, I started a job in a secure school/SEMH school in September and am surrounded by unhygienic and voltile teens in close quarters, my ds attends nursery and DD is as school so we're a complete mixing pot for spreading germs. Fortunately, we now test via lateral flow twice a week so at least are better prepared.

singlemum81 · 27/01/2021 20:16

Nope. If there's a cold going around I'll catch it. And it'll be full on for weeks. I haven't had one in over a year. I'm a full time teacher with 2 little ones so plenty of germs around. Both kids and students have had colds but I didn't catch it. Starting to think there's a reason Hmm

30not13 · 27/01/2021 20:16

Just the one the week I went back to work in August after being furloughed since 23rd March (early years setting)

We were talking today about the fact there is barely any illness among the children this year, no streaming drivers of green snot and no winter vomiting bug.

lilfoxfur · 27/01/2021 20:16

No! I've not been ill at all. It's the only good thing.

kowari · 27/01/2021 20:21

Yes, a few, only mild though. DS was only off school March to May and I've worked outside the home throughout. I use soap when I use the loo, and hand sanitiser when directed to do so. I don't own any hand sanitiser or alcohol wipes and I use my mask until I do a wash then I dry it on the radiator overnight.

LakieLady · 27/01/2021 20:21

No cold for me, but I think I had Covid around the time the first lockdown started (lost my sense of smell for 6 weeks or so).

If it wasn't Covid, it must have been some other sort of virus (sore throat, cough, chills and achey muscles).

DaisyDreaming · 27/01/2021 20:21

As a shielder I’ve loved a whole year without catching things!

ILovemyCatsSoSoMuch · 27/01/2021 20:25

No

But we got threadworms from DC2 in the summer when they went back to school for 4 weeks... mega hygiene fail.

LadyMayoGoodway · 27/01/2021 20:25

One caught from DC2 when schools went back in Sept. We isolated for a bit and got tests but knew it probably wasn’t because of the snot!!!

Crispyturtle · 27/01/2021 20:33

I’ve had one. More impressively, the kids (5 & 3) have only had one, too. Normally they have colds every other week from October to April. 5y/o is in village school two days a week, but it’s tiny & they seem really careful about hygiene etc. 3y/o is at childminders two days a week with other kids.

Oblomov20 · 27/01/2021 20:46

No.
But then I haven't had one for years. Can't remember the last one. 10 years?
I'm never ill.

FolkSongSweet · 27/01/2021 20:46

None of us (DH, me and toddler DS) have had a cold since 2019. But DS has had two bouts of a fever which lasted about 24 hours without any other symptoms. Covid tests negative both times. He’s not in childcare and we hadn’t been anywhere so no idea what it was or where he got it. Funnily enough I actually feel like I’m coming down with one now though...hope it’s a cold and not covid!

BalthazarImpresario · 27/01/2021 20:48

None for me kids each had one when they were at school/college but that’s it.

bluetongue · 27/01/2021 20:54

No cold since Feb last year. I suffer from cough variant asthma so it’s been one of the few positives of the pandemic for me. Usually I’ll have a shocking cough that lasts for weeks after a cold. I’ll end up losing sleep and straining muscles because of it.

nancy75 · 27/01/2021 21:01

The only cold we’ve had was straight after Dd went back to school in September (not covid, we had tests) the whole school came down with it.
I’m one of those people that copes very badly with a cold, it usually knocks me for 6 & I normally get 2 or 3 every winter. It’s been lovely to have an almost cold free year

AngeloMysterioso · 27/01/2021 21:21

I pretty much never don’t have a cold.

Although I do also have year-round hay fever and sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference.

Gindrinker43 · 27/01/2021 21:29

None of us have had a cold, sore throat or a tummy bug. Just shows what got respiratory and hand hygiene can do.
