Have you had a cold since March 2020?

Just that, really!

As a visiting teacher working in a petri dish schools, this is probably my longest period of not having a cold, thanks to covid and all the increased hygiene measures. It feels slightly odd not to have had days on the sofa surrounded by a sea of tissues.

What does this mean for the common cold? I'm hoping it won't be back with a vengeance!

YABU - I've had a cold since March 2020
YANBU - I've been cold-free since then!

I've had two. I blamed going back to school for both.

Love51 · 27/01/2021 16:09

I used to work from different sites, hotdesking at each one. I now WFH so much fewer colds. Not none, I have children in primary school, but fewer and much milder.

DJattheendoftheworld · 27/01/2021 16:11

Yes and weirdly it started at the end of the Christmas holidays when I hadn't been anywhere except out for walks for 2 weeks!
I had a high temp, headache, sore throat, horrible cough but negative covid test.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/01/2021 16:22

I had 3 or 4 cycles of increasingly mild colds Sept-Oct. Itchy throat, sinuses. Strangely, no cough (phew). Two DCs at primary school, but it started before they went back before going anywhere indoors.

When I did supply teaching, I'd inevitably get a new cold within a couple of weeks of joining a new school, then be fine once I adjusted to the local brew.

I not-so-eagerly anticipate the return of hayfever season in March to keep me busy until August. That was a bit milder last year, probably with the reduced air pollution mixed in.

I'll have the colds back as a part of normal life.

@Turnedouttoes

It does strike me as crazy now that pre-COVID we all used to think nothing of going into the office with all kinds of germs. That’s definitely where I’ve picked up colds in the past, from other team members
Why crazy? Are colds really so serious to warrant not going In to the office for fear of spreading?
Turnedouttoes · 27/01/2021 16:56

No of course not but as my whole office has now been working from home for almost a year with increased efficiency and no problems I’d rather people with a cold work from home for a couple of days instead of spreading it round the office!

Lolly49 · 27/01/2021 17:02

@AndcalloffChristmas

Had a couple of quite rotten ones - COVID negative both times though
This one in September and one just before Christmas no school age kids. Hardly ever step outside apart from to do the bins.

If increased efficiency, it makes sense to make the entire company always working from home!
Godimabitch · 27/01/2021 17:08

Nope! No kids, changed to working from home, DH works outside. But most importantly, no contact with PILs and they haven't had contact with others. They are super spreaders, catch every version of flu throughout winter and are sure to pass it on. They haven't had s much as a cold either. Loved it, really struggled seeing them at Christmas, had gotten so used to not being coughed on.

lljkk · 27/01/2021 17:08

me: the very slight odd sniffle ...
DS brought home a definite cold gave it to little DS who gave it to DH. I never caught that one at all.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 27/01/2021 17:09

I had one in Sept after schools went back and a horrible one at start of Jan. only place I’d been was supermarket so must have been from there. (I was masked obviously but it was really busy). DH and DD didn’t get it from me.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/01/2021 17:10

Nope

Hardly been out, touched nothing, wear gloves all the time.

Susie477 · 27/01/2021 17:10

Nope. Not so much as a sniffle.

Which is hardly surprising since I’m WFH and being ultra cautious because I’m asthmatic. I will keep on using sanitiser after the pandemic to reduce my risk of catching viruses.

RatherLostPenguins · 27/01/2021 17:11

Not me but everyone else in the family has. I normally catch everything going so I have no idea how I didn't fall ill myself. DC have been much better at hand washing recently though so that has probably helped.

CarolEffingBaskin · 27/01/2021 17:11

I had a cold last week. It was not Covid. I had a blocked nose, slightly sore throat, was a bit tired. No temperature, no cough, no loss of smell or taste. I also did not get a test because why the fuck would I? I have strong suspicions that the PCR tests are picking up all colds as Covid when they’re not...

Eve · 27/01/2021 17:13

none - and I get 3-4 regular colds during the year.

Last time I had anything like a cold was a cough that lasted for months when I came back from Madrid where I was working for a week last February.

Chanandlerbong01 · 27/01/2021 17:18

I’ve had 1! I normally have one every other week

Beaniecats · 27/01/2021 17:19

No usually had 2 or 3 by now

Yep you are right
Thecrashingwaves · 27/01/2021 17:20

I can't even remember the last time I had a cold it's so long ago. DS had a cold about a month ago but I still didn't catch it.

bakereld · 27/01/2021 17:21

Last time I 'caught' something was back in March 2020 - I caught tonsillitus. Since WFH i've had absolutely nothing Grin

Biscoffaddict · 27/01/2021 17:21

Yes. A ‘cold’ back in March which I now suspect may have been Covid as I had several of the main symptoms. But there was no testing at the time.

BlueTimes · 27/01/2021 17:23

I’ve had several colds in the last year. Several young children are probably largely the cause though!

Notnowokay · 27/01/2021 17:26

One last month that was passed on via kids. To be fair to dc, dh bought covid in earlier this month. And they had two while at school.

CallmeIT · 27/01/2021 18:06

I had a rotten one when the DC went back to school in September but not before or since, which is unusual for me.
