Have you had a cold since March 2020?

Just that, really!

As a visiting teacher working in a petri dish schools, this is probably my longest period of not having a cold, thanks to covid and all the increased hygiene measures. It feels slightly odd not to have had days on the sofa surrounded by a sea of tissues.

What does this mean for the common cold? I'm hoping it won't be back with a vengeance!

YABU - I've had a cold since March 2020
YANBU - I've been cold-free since then!

I had a sore throat that lasted 1 day over the summer. I usually get 1 or 2 colds/coughs each Winter but that's it. I am not a money maker for GSK's products!

DH had a bit of a cold last week, but that's it (and he's very prone to man flu that sees him laid up and moaning for days).

DD1 has had 3 coughs (she's only ever sick with coughs). One in Summer, one was the 'back to school' cough, and another in early December. All tests were clear. This isn't far off what she'd usually get.

DD2 caught DD1's Summer cough, but that's it. She is usually permanently snotty Oct - March, so a huge improvement for her!

lobsterkiller · 27/01/2021 18:22

No, I had a very mild head cold at the end of January 2020 and absolutely nothing since.

Xmasbaby11 · 27/01/2021 18:24

I've had colds, loads of them but none bad. I even had 3 colds in the first, strictest lockdown. No idea how!

unmarkedbythat · 27/01/2021 18:27

Yes, but I have been at work (mental health hospital) throughout. Probably 4 or 5 in total? I could check and be sure tbh as every time I have had one I have had a mini panic that I'm the latest one at our work to get covid and written about it in my diary.

diamondsr4u · 27/01/2021 18:29

Thankfully I have not had a cold since March 2020, nor have my children and dh. We spoke about this and was saying it's actual better to keep away from humans, they clearly harbour germs lol. We usually all get very bad cold which seems to last forever! We all get sore throats, chesty coughs which last for months. However 2020 was the first year where we all have been healthy and well. Thank God.
I haven't done anything extra to ward off colds.

Coffeeandaride · 27/01/2021 18:31

I've only had 2 (which feels so much less)! I'm NHS face to face with people in work, so is my DH and 4 kids in school so most recent winters there is barely a week where someone is not recovering from one/starting to get one.

One thing to be happy about.

I voted YABU as I have had a cold since this all started - in September, following our son's return to school (he brings them home to pass on). However, I have had nowhere near the same number of colds as normal: possible Covid at the end of January, then nothing until September, and nothing again since.

HeronLanyon · 27/01/2021 18:35

YANBU
Not only no cold but no chest infection which for me can turn into bronchitis.

YoutubeZoom · 27/01/2021 18:48

I had lots of colds after DS went back to school and I went in to work for a few months. But no chest infection (maybe because I had the flu jab). Yippee!

EllaPaella · 27/01/2021 18:49

Not so much as even a mild sniffle and I am a nurse and have school age kids at home. They haven't had any illnesses either.

Pukkatea · 27/01/2021 18:49

Nope. Normally get 2 colds a year, last year just got 1 covid instead.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 27/01/2021 19:20

I had one last week. I have no idea how as I haven't been near anyone except DH and the DC and none of them had a cold. Sometimes it's hard to tell whether it's a cold or the start of tree-pollen hay fever, but last week was too early for tree pollen so I'm pretty sure it was a cold.

MustardMitt · 27/01/2021 19:22

I had a 48 hour cold, which is about normal for me. I’m rarely ill.

MissTeree · 27/01/2021 19:23

Yes, in September after the kids went back to school

52andblue · 27/01/2021 19:25

No 'normal' colds here no.
But dd (13) and I did have a weekend last March where we both felt very 'chesty'. I was superaware of my lungs and breathing. Only other time I've been that way was Bronchitis but that was slower. But NOTHING else - no temp, loss of smell anything. So, I thought NOT COVID but now I wonder?

52andblue · 27/01/2021 19:27

I agree that improved hygiene has helped.
I have two young teens with Autism.
Their hygiene is a constant battle.
I sat them down once it became clear C19 really serious (so, March last year) and explained consequences - gave them chapter and verse.
They've improved hugely!

TaxTheRatFarms · 27/01/2021 19:33

I’ve had a cold constantly since last March Grin Do you reckon there’s such a thing as a dormant cold, and it just pops up whenever it feels like it, or when you’re a bit run down? Because even when we’ve all been working from home/schools closed, we’re all still sneezing, runny noses and coughs on and off. Bonkers.

Sciurus83 · 27/01/2021 19:34

Yes, and norovirus. But I have a 2 year old at nursery.

Lozza70 · 27/01/2021 19:39

I had a hideous cold in September after the kids went back to school. Streaming, sore teeth/jaw, horrible cough, the lot. Not COVID thank god.

OwlWearingGlasses · 27/01/2021 19:40

I have had a couple but I work in a school so get all sorts of germs coughed over me!

FirstladyKirkman · 27/01/2021 19:44

I had covid end off November and then got a cold 3 weeks later.

Cold was awful and completely floored me..covid just made me tired and achy.

AliceAbsolum · 27/01/2021 19:45

Best thing about this whole bollocking thing. I love it! HATE being ill. I'd have had 3-4 by now.

Glitterblue · 27/01/2021 19:46

No but I couldn't tell you when I last had one, I rarely get them

CakeRequired · 27/01/2021 19:51

I agree that improved hygiene has helped.

Nah its just because we aren't mixing, that's all. People are still as dirty as ever.

Make a thread asking people to be honest and admit if they don't wash their hands after going to the toilet. The responses will shock you.

Solina · 27/01/2021 19:53

Had one in March and then I had a good streak without one until I got a cold back in October. Which is good going really as I had a cold every few months before covid due to the sheer exposure to other people on buses sniffing and coughing away as well as from people at work.
