Inspired by the white bag thread, it just got me curious. I’m not a journo! Although, I suppose that’s what a journalist would say.. Grin

Have you / do you take drugs? What did you take and why did you?

I’ll be honest and go first, I occassinally use MDMA and I do use coke on nights. But I don’t have kids and I’d stop as soon as I was having them

Spottybluepyjamas · 25/01/2021 19:29

I used to take coke most nights out when I was at uni and in my twenties, mdma at festivals mostly and have tried ket. Also did quite a bit of MCat when it first came over, but I wouldn't touch it now. I haven't actually taken anything in the last few years but would probably not rule out a bit of coke if it were offered.

bloodywhitecat · 25/01/2021 19:29

@Marley20

You're all a barrel of laughs 😀😀 god I miss the 90s, raves at uni, we all did hash, mdma and speed. It was great fun but am too old now. Would be horrified if my kids did what we did though!
Possibly but I was born addicted to a prescription drug and my whole childhood was torn apart by my mum's mental health and her addictions so I was too scared to try. Much in the same way I was too scared to take anti depressants when I needed them because of the damage prescription drugs did to me and my siblings.

@purrswhileheeats

E's and whizz in the 90s - that feeling of 'coming up' when you hit the dancefloor was like no other 😉 ♥️

Grange Hill ‘just say no’ worked its magic on me in the 80’s so no from me. I also think that drugs cause so much pain in society that it’s pretty crap to buy them.

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 25/01/2021 19:30

Never taken any illegal drugs. Never smoked either.

HelplessProcrastinator · 25/01/2021 19:31

Got stoned regularly and tried mushrooms, speed and ecstasy as a teen in a small Cornish town. I was desperate to fit in and it was so widespread and easy to get hold if it felt entirely normal. Out of my system by the time I started uni although I drank a lot and still enjoy drinking. I can dance for hours on a couple of ciders even at my old age.

ColourMeExhausted · 25/01/2021 19:31

Hash in my twenties. That's it. The Leah Betts warning left its mark on me. Drugs scare me, always preferred alcohol, at least you know where you're at with it! And whilst drunk people can be obnoxious, I find that coked up people take that to another level. I also agree that by buying drugs, you're indirectly contributing to criminal activity.

Dipi79 · 25/01/2021 19:31

I've tried every drug that I can think of in a desperate bid to find something to fill the void.
I've been clean and sober a year.

PotDaffodil · 25/01/2021 19:32

I never have, not illegal. I used to live near a drugs dealer and I know the type of people and practices I'd be encouraging. Most of the people I know who have taken illegal drugs are middle class people, because only they have the money to support these awful trades, and it helps cement my lack of respect for such.
I do feel for the kids and others who need cannabis for medical reasons, though - completely different thing.

Imapotato · 25/01/2021 19:33

Lots when I was younger, All sorts really, whatever was going. Mainly weed and speed though. I spent the vast majority of my teens stoned.

Not so much as an adult. Just occasionally (like once every 5 years or so) as an adult.

On reflection taking my GCSE’s stoned wasn’t my best life choice. But I have no long lasting effects and my mental health is pretty solid.

Whatflavourjellybabyisnice · 25/01/2021 19:33

Ahhh I forgot Mkat/meow meow!
It was my first 'hard drug' and I was in my first year at uni. I bloody loved it and my thirst for it made my provider friend flush the rest down the toilet.

murbblurb · 25/01/2021 19:33

purchase of illegal drugs supports knife crime, cuckooing, county lines and gang violence. Unless you grow your own in your own property you are responsible for all this. I don't know what the situation was a few years back, but there is no excuse now.

if you didn't know - now you do. If you still think it is a victimless crime - you are scum, and I wish you what you deserve.

and no, never seen the attraction - I find people out of their skulls on substances (including legal ones) to be tedious saddos and it never appealed.

Gncq · 25/01/2021 19:33

Unfortunately the marijuana you get now is a different drug entirely to the sort you'd get in the 80s early 90s, it's been modified to be stronger, harder, basically worse and more addictive.

Same with E. You used to be able to buy an E and know it was MDMA. Buy one now and it could have anything in it.

Kids these days take the weirdest shit, like weed killer packaged as a high, because it's cheap and widely available!

I'd definitely make sure my kids avoid the drug scene purely because drugs are crap now.

FWIW I "did drugs" for a bit in the early 90s.

TyroTerf · 25/01/2021 19:33

What did you take

Whatever was available, in my younger and less psychologically stable days. Weed and pills mainly, occasionally acid or mushrooms, coke if someone else was offering. Never smack or crack though, except for when it transpired the brown speckled mitzis achieved that look by containing heroin.

and why did you?

Because it was normal amongst my social circle (in much the same way shitloads of people drink alcohol because that's normal for theirs). Also because I was really quite spectacularly failing to cope with the aftermath of csa and seeking obliteration as a coping device.

ColourMeExhausted · 25/01/2021 19:35

Although I will admit...I've never felt so totally hilarious, witty and amazing as I did during a few hash brownie parties I attended. It really was a high like no other, but once or twice it got out of control and that was majorly freaky. Memory of my flatmate walking me home literally tethering me down because I was convinced my head was a balloon about to float off...

YetAnotherWalk · 25/01/2021 19:37

No no and no, not even a cigarette ever after watching my granny die from emphysema... but I'm also a very goody two shoes in general.

Meowchickameowmeow · 25/01/2021 19:38

No, I used to drink but don't really enjoy being in an altered state. I don't think people who are on drugs realise what boring arse holes they are either.

jewel1968 · 25/01/2021 19:38

I take the following:
Alcohol
Caffeine (gives me a real buzz)
Lots of different types of painkillers e.g. ibuprofen, paracetamol, sometimes very strong painkillers GP gives me
Valium ( or similar for fear of flying)

AlternativePerspective · 25/01/2021 19:39

No, never have, never will. People who take drugs are pathetic who are happy to fund human trafficking, the illegal porn industry, violent crime, and I have no respect for anyone who does.

Any drugs, ever, would be a deal-breaker for me in a relationship, even if he’d been 16 it would be game over.

And I wouldn’t associate with anyone who thought that drugs were cool or fantastic.

I wonder how many of the people who rave about the good drugs they took are against the porn industry?

Letsbekindplease · 25/01/2021 19:39

I took speed to lose weight for a couple of weeks. It didn't really work although made me a lot more confident at work.
Had cocaine a few times on nights out.
Had that drug they call plant food or something like that. It made me feel completely out of my head. I hated it. Was a big mistake. I always regretted taking the above. Seemed more out of peer pressure apart from the speed. I've also smoked a joint a few times and it never agrees with me. I'm always sick. Wouldn't touch anything now as I'm a mum and the thought of my son growing up and taking something terrifies me.

MorganKitten · 25/01/2021 19:39

When I lived in LA cocaine was everywhere and as I was in the industrial it was good quality and not cut with crap. Pretty much everyone has a medical marijuana card - skywalker is amazing.
Diazepam to sleep.

Frenchdressing · 25/01/2021 19:40

I don’t think anyone suggested it was a victimless crime did they?

Puffalicious · 25/01/2021 19:41

Whatnext2018 I could have written your post. I was a pure clubber and lived for weekends coming up on E on the dance floor. Coke didn't agree with me, or hash/ grass/ whizz. I had the time of my life- sometimes wild, always fun. Clubbed all over the world whilst travelling/ working abroad and if I could click my fingers for one night only back in the day without risks I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Stopped it all once trying for DS1, over 17 years ago. I've never been a drinker and haven't touched any alcohol since having the kids. I also don't do caffeine or meat- but I've always been a bit of a hippy.

I don't regret a minute of it- had a great crowd who took care of each other. My best mate never touched a thing, so we were a very mixed crowd. I only have happy, warm memories of the 90s.

I'm a teacher and if my children asked me I'd tell them exactly my experiences.

unmarkedbythat · 25/01/2021 19:41

I have, a wide ish variety. I enjoyed them. That sort of fun isn't compatible with my life now though. No dc and a different job and I happily still would if I felt like it. I think regulation is always safe than prohibition so even drugs I would always stay well away from and persobally fear, I would prefer legalised and regulated on harm reduction grounds

WeAreShiningStars · 25/01/2021 19:43

No, never. Have never even tried a cigarette.
