Inspired by the white bag thread, it just got me curious. I’m not a journo! Although, I suppose that’s what a journalist would say.. Grin

Have you / do you take drugs? What did you take and why did you?

I’ll be honest and go first, I occassinally use MDMA and I do use coke on nights. But I don’t have kids and I’d stop as soon as I was having them

I need my daily fixes of English Breakfast Tea. Does that count? Grin

Carysmatthews · 25/01/2021 19:19

Never, not even smoked a cigarette. I worked many years in a job coming into contact with drug users and saw first hand the damage it does.

melononapear · 25/01/2021 19:20

Smoked weed occasionally when it's been brought out at parties but it's never really done anything for me, just makes me feel a bit dizzy, spaced out and tired. Eating it (in brownies etc) is much more fun and tasty but I've only done that twice 😆

Done coke once, again when offered at a party, it was actually really fun and I had a great night. Was going through quite a low point in my life at the time, probably not something I'll ever do again.

Used to drink quite a bit but I've stopped as of this year and have even cut down on caffeine. Never bought any illegal drugs and I wouldn't in the future either, I can't even afford the legal ones!

Itsyoouu · 25/01/2021 19:20

Ecstasy and coke in my teens to early 20s enjoyed it at the time and stopped when I didn't.

No. Never fancied it.

purrswhileheeats · 25/01/2021 19:20

E's and whizz in the 90s - that feeling of 'coming up' when you hit the dancefloor was like no other 😉 ♥️

Whatflavourjellybabyisnice · 25/01/2021 19:21

I have smoked weed in the past but stopped when I became addicted (thanks Buddhist teachings for helping me) and I have taken cocaine and MDMA in the past. Also speed and Ket on occasion.
I don't like cocaine because it only lasts half an hour so not worth bothering about to me.
I only took drugs on a small scale and on a few social occasions.
What made me stop?
My friend is a NHS mental health nurse and she said every time a person takes drugs, the drug grabs a bit of serotonin from your brain that you can never get back.
Also.... weed made me paranoid and that is the worst thing for me. I get paranoid anyway with my mental health and I said to myself that it isn't worth risking.
What else made me stop? I had friends from uni that got into drugs big time and they found it very hard to function due to this.
I know a person that gave himself chronic fatigue amongst other things by taking too much class As. He really struggles. I've heard they stopped for a while but began again.
Another reason that I sometimes forget about: the come down from speed was so horrific that I purposefully kept myself awake for 3 days because I fully believed that I was going to die in my sleep.
I didn't know what to do with myself that time. Was horrendous but I'm also glad it's a hazy memory.
If I was going to take any again, I'd say MDMA would be my choice. Lasts long and makes everything absolutely amazing although I was paranoid at the time. However that could have had a huge amount to do with my mental state. I have mental health issues that I am addressing.

Dabbled. Was part of rave generation. Coke LSD, Es and whizz! Wouk did never now. But glad I experienced it all.

pointythings · 25/01/2021 19:22

I've had cannabis tea, once. It made a nice tea and tasted pleasant, but the effects were nothing special.

I've also had very, very strong painkillers and that scared the shit out of me. I was so high and out of control and I didn't like it at all. So no drugs for me unless medically prescribed, ever.

ItsJustARide · 25/01/2021 19:22

Yes to weed, speed & E’s, in teens.
MDMA and coke in 20’s and 30’s. Purely recreational, occasional nights out/festivals/gigs etc.

It was all an absolute blast, too scared now in 40’s in case I dropped dead but know plenty that still dabble now and then.

bitheby · 25/01/2021 19:22

I've had magic mushrooms once. Took them to have a spiritual experience and was really disappointed. Didn't enjoy it at all and didn't learn anything about myself or life either.

ValidUser · 25/01/2021 19:24

Occasional codeine for severe pain. I like wine when I'm not pregnant. Love cigarettes but never smoked other than on a rare night out in my teens.

Nothing illegal.

DumplingsAndStew · 25/01/2021 19:24

MDMA and a lot of E from around 16-20 yo.
Smoked a lot of weed between about 14 and 20.

Stopped at 20 when I fell pregnant. Have smoked the odd joint, mostly for pain relief since then, now mid-30s.

Whatnext2018 · 25/01/2021 19:24

God, loads in my ‘Youth’
I was a teen in the suburbs of Manchester in the 90’s 🤷🏻‍♀️everyone I knew did.
I had an amazing time at amazing clubs..speed, E’s, weed, acid, coke (only a couple of times-hated it!) everything really. I don’t regret those days one bit and so wish I could be in a club dancing until 6 in the morning dancing to amazing tunes without a care in the world, coming out to the sunset.
Now I’m 43, haven’t drank in almost a year and haven’t smoked since around 5 years ago, in all honesty I miss it, but wouldn’t do it now, different time, different person now (although that fun girl is in there somewhere, deep down)

xanthian · 25/01/2021 19:25

I used to do a lot of drugs. Haven't touched anything in three years though.

Whatflavourjellybabyisnice · 25/01/2021 19:26

I forgot that I did a 'synthetic cannabinoid' once by smoking it with a friend and my shaky research suggested it could have been spice Confused
It was horrendous and it gave me arm trails and made me question previous events in life like my Grandma dying.
That definitely reminds me not to do that again. Really fucking scared me.

GreenSlide · 25/01/2021 19:26

I tried E once as a youngster and I smoked weed at uni because everyone else was but tbh it didn't really do much for me.

I wouldn't do it now I have kids, pills and powders make people too unpredictable and it's a waste of money. Also I don't even like the TV licence man coming to the door so I wouldn't fancy having drug dealers popping round Blush

BillyAndTheSillies · 25/01/2021 19:27

Started smoking weed at uni but quickly realised it didn't agree with me, I was slowly losing the plot.

Took cocaine and ecstasy (pills and MDMA) for a long time socially. Haven't touched anything illegal since DS1 was born five years ago.

Was a 20 a day smoker until last October when I had weight loss surgery. Haven't touched a drink since either.

WotAComplete · 25/01/2021 19:27

I did take drugs, yes.
Smoked weed and took a lot of ecstasy in my teens (90s raver). Tried acid and speed at that time.
Did a fair amount of coke in my 20s at parties and clubs.
After having kids I pretty much stopped (took coke a handful of times, but didn’t enjoy it any more).
In my 40s and haven’t touched drugs for years.

I’m a sober recovering alcoholic, by the way. Of all the drugs I’ve taken, alcohol was the sneakiest, most destructive, most devastating one. It’s the one that almost got me.

Hardbackwriter · 25/01/2021 19:28

A fair amount of weed and coke a couple of times in my late teens/early twenties. Not since. The health visitor asked me on my antenatal call the other day whether I had 'ever misused illegal drugs' and I felt very comfortable saying no both because they surely don't actually care about what I did a decade ago and also because I didn't misuse them anyway - what else are they for?!

VestaTilley · 25/01/2021 19:28

No. Never.

I think drug taking is pathetic.

BlowDryRat · 25/01/2021 19:28

I've never taken recreational drugs. When I was younger it was because I was scared of what was in them and what they'd do to me. One of my earliest memories is seeing the news reports of Leah Betts in hospital. Now it's that and because I understand how they're intrinsic to violent crime, modern slavery, fragile states, terrorism, human trafficking and just about every other form of human misery. No thanks.

Cam2020 · 25/01/2021 19:28

I've never really been interested in drugs - always too worried about what was in it and I think drug dealers are absolute scumbags, so I'd never want to line their pockets. If they were legal and standardised, I'm sure I would have tried them when I was younger. I certainly drank way too much in my 20s and got onto some terrible states that terrify me, looking back!

Suzi888 · 25/01/2021 19:29

I had a puff on a regular cigarette and a spliff. Didn’t like either!
