Inspired by the white bag thread, it just got me curious. I’m not a journo! Although, I suppose that’s what a journalist would say.. Grin

Have you / do you take drugs? What did you take and why did you?

I’ll be honest and go first, I occassinally use MDMA and I do use coke on nights. But I don’t have kids and I’d stop as soon as I was having them

Nothing ever
I was educated well enough not to be that stupid!

But not educated well enough to understand drug use. Or the fact that very intelligent people use drugs.🤔

m00Ma · 26/01/2021 03:14

Yes. Tried most things, really enjoyed LSD in a mind expanding & also aesthetic-appreciation way. Didn't think much of cannabis. Or anything else, really. Alcohol is a particularly horrible drug.
Now, just cigarettes.

Backbee · 26/01/2021 03:19

No, but growing up in a house with a heroine addict will do that to you. A lot of my friends did (not so much now anyone can go out) on nights out though. Each to their own, I can think of better things to spend my money on and put in my body that don't fund criminal activity though.

georgarina · 26/01/2021 03:27

Not for years and years. Cannabis at school, until one time gave me a very bad reaction (hallucinations, etc) when I was around 15. Cocaine a few times - last time was when I was in uni. Took a pill of what I thought was MDMA on my birthday when I was a teenager and it turned out to be something else, had a very scary experience (I wasn't at home and had to take a plane the next morning by myself still under the effects), the effects lasted around a month and the whole experience gave me PTSD.

Wouldn't ever touch any of it again!

waltzingparrot · 26/01/2021 05:02

Two puffs on a joint and one magic mushroom, although to be honest, nothing magic happened, so I suspect it was just a mushroom.

DifficultDifficultLemonDifficu · 26/01/2021 05:28

I partake. I don't have kids and have a full time job where I get drug tested daily. I work one week on and one week off. On my week off I may partake in smoking some weed and maybe taking a few more pain killers than usual (I have bulging discs).

I stay at home while I'm inebriated and just watch dumb tv.

Education doesn't prevent stupidity.

MacDuffsMuff · 26/01/2021 07:50

Its on this thread too, the "bet you were fun as a teenager" hmm. Ffs, dont teens and young adults have enough pressure on them without thinking they will be ostracized or a killjoy if they dont take illegal drugs? Without supporting an awful oppressive industry? Can we not just stop this bullshit of you are boring if you don`t take drugs?

I agree @PoleToPole it's kind of an odd attitude that exists on MN I think. Maybe it's guilt at funding the lifestyles of the dealers who normally wouldn't touch the stuff themselves. If people make those kind of 'yeah it's a great laugh, all my friends do it and we're all professionals' remarks maybe it makes it easier to ignore the kids who are stuck in county lines gangs to get them their drug of choice. That these kids are often abused doesn't seem to matter. It's all a jolly old jape, right?

Uncomfortablynumbed · 26/01/2021 07:50

I used to take MDMA and smoke weed. I’m a boring mum now though.

Why did I take them? Because they are fucking amazing. The feeling you get on MDMA is like nothing on earth for me. The total feeling of peace, euphoria and oneness with everything is just indescribable.

God I miss drugsSad

FuckOffBorisYouTwat · 26/01/2021 07:58

Oh quite a few MDMA, dope, cocaine, acid, mushrooms, Ket, speed, alcohol, speed.
I used to love raving and dancing.
Enjoyed myself but definitely caused some issues. I'm bipolar (as are lots of family members who didn't take drugs) so this might be why I was attracted to drugs. Interestingly out of my friends now I possibly have the best mental health on a day to day basis than many of the ones that never did any drugs. No anxiety or depression.
I still occasionally smoke dope and every year have a night on MDMA. Lots of fun. Would never do coke (turns you into a boring wanker), ket (dull), speed (evil come down and annoying person). MDMA is lovely (though annoying if someone is on it and you are not). I feel like it re-sets me mentally and physically. I also have a chronic pain condition that it sorts out.

Ducksarenotmyfriends · 26/01/2021 08:00

*I have undiagnosed autism and was a HORRIFICALLY anxious and depressed child (masked the entire time, I was a complete wreck).

At uni, I was persuaded by an ex to try MDMA on a night out and, honestly, it was like someone had switched a light on.

I only did it a few times but it changed me. I don't get anxious anymore and am very happy go lucky*

Same. Mdma saved my life tbh. I probably went a bit too far with it and took most drugs apart from really hardcore stuff like heroin/crack. And I started far too young and did far too much. But I stopped it all in my late 20s and 10 years on I'm fine, happy, healthy, confident, social, fully functioning member of society. I feel a bit sad for teenage me sometimes, that I couldn't have found a healthier way to deal with mental health issues and wonder how my life might be different now (although I'm very happy with my life, well educated, good job, lovely family and friends).

I have dc now and would feel sad if they went down the same path. But we talk about feelings a lot and I try and nurture their confidence and happiness as much as possible as that's what I was so lacking.

FuckOffBorisYouTwat · 26/01/2021 08:01

@MacDuffsMuff the gang culture associated with drugs is one of the main reasons drugs should be legalised

Londonnight · 26/01/2021 08:02

No illegal drugs ever. Never smoked either.

Ducksarenotmyfriends · 26/01/2021 08:02

Mushrooms were the best though. They were the only drug that left me feeling super happy and energised for a week or 2 after.

MacDuffsMuff · 26/01/2021 08:05

Yes, but it's not. And while it's not, these kids and others who suffer similarly, seem to be viewed as some kind of collateral damage.

HeronLanyon · 26/01/2021 08:09

Cannabis at university and once in my late twenties. Possibly 10 times in total.
That’s it.
Do use alcohol.
Quite a few friends/acquaintances use cocaine, and one or two are daily users of cannabis.
I’ve no interest, quite a bit of fear of addiction, would lose my career immediately, loathe a lot that surrounds the drug trade (much of which would be avoided by different political approach).

Frenchdressing · 26/01/2021 08:10

Which is why many people do t take drugs as adults. Must ex drug users on here are talking about what they did in their youth. As an 18 year old I never really thought about where the drugs were from but obviously as an adult now I am aware.

Redrose8701 · 26/01/2021 08:21

My husband and I take mushrooms and ecstasy one weekend a month.
It has helped our relationship if I am honest

MacDuffsMuff · 26/01/2021 08:29

@Frenchdressing Maybe a very long time ago people were more unaware of where they were coming from. But certainly growing up in the 80s and 90s we were under no illusions about where it was coming from and how to get them (I don't know how old you are, maybe you are talking about way way back in your own case I don't know). County lines is a relatively new way to get drugs out to certain places but kids and vulnerable people have always been used, that's nothing new and it certainly wasn't a secret when I was in my teens. It bothered some people enough and not others. Some people just didn't/don't care. As long as they get what they want they can conveniently forget about the 'unpleasant' part of their fun.

Certainly, you just need to look at this thread and the one that inspired it to see that there are plenty of older people still quite happily doing drugs, without caring about the process which brought them to their door.

bungaloid · 26/01/2021 08:30

Anyone interested in a good documentary on drug use should check out the Brass Eye episode "Drugs".

TroysMammy · 26/01/2021 08:37

No. Wouldn't even know what cannabis smells like.

Absolutely, I came here to recommend the same thing! I learned so much from it. It should be mandatory viewing in schools.
namechangefail2020 · 26/01/2021 08:39

Did coke on nights out til I had kids 3 years ago. Probably would of went on a girls weekend away without the kids but nothing side as opportunity hasn't arisen

MalorieSnooty · 26/01/2021 09:03

I was the poster who has undiagnosed autism, and MDMA helped me combat anxiety.

Just wanted to let the 'I'm too well educated to do drugs' crew know that I was actually studying at Oxford when I did this.

Not touched anything for decades.

rebeccachoc · 26/01/2021 09:03

I take prescription painkillers but never tried anything illegal/recreational. Don't even drink or smoke.
