Inspired by the white bag thread, it just got me curious. I’m not a journo! Although, I suppose that’s what a journalist would say.. Grin

Have you / do you take drugs? What did you take and why did you?

I’ll be honest and go first, I occassinally use MDMA and I do use coke on nights. But I don’t have kids and I’d stop as soon as I was having them

Yes with many regrets it was a given growing up. I wish I'd never tried any.

Royalbloo · 25/01/2021 21:15

My sister in law broke her arm and we were at the hospital.

A guy was next door and was making animalistic noises. Like a cow dying. I later walked past and his eyes were taped shut and he was intubated.

I asked the doctor what happened and he said, "Ecstasy." I asked, "Too much?" And he said, "Just enough - his family are coming to say goodbye."

Heartbreaking. I think of him and his family often.

Strokethefurrywall · 25/01/2021 21:19

Fuck tons when I was in my teens/20's/30's - had some of the best times of my life when I could sleep it off the following day.

Now with kids and a professional career, I have no interest in it really, nor alcohol.

2020hello · 25/01/2021 21:20

I'd like to know why people the drugs I will go back and read.

Mainly because my brother did cannabis, then coke (while in high flying sales job) then somehow got onto heroine and then his last injection was some kind or tranquilliser. Then he died.

He had a was force to give up at one point by a gf and then back on it , had a baby which still didn't make him stop, then on the medical stuff to stay clean as he was on some kind of order but as soon as the drugs tests stopped went back to injecting and died.
Why do people not see what they are doing to themselves and their families.

Lovemusic33 · 25/01/2021 21:20

As a teen... coke (once), cannabis (loads of times)

As an adult.. mainly prescription drugs like diazepam

Now....nothing and am t-total

I’m not against drugs, I work in mental health and have seen the bad side of drugs, the long lasting effects of taking drugs for a long period and even people that have experienced severe psychosis from doing it once. The other side is that I can see how some people feel drugs can make their life more bearable, more fun or block out what ever it is going on in their heads. I have met people who can hardly communicate due to anxiety/mental health but after taking coke they are able to communicate, not saying coke is a good thing but I can see why people may feel it makes them feel better. Cannabis has its plus points and its negative points but the cannabis sold now is much stronger than it was 20 years ago, I feel if it was legalised and the strength controlled people could benefit from it (I know people will disagree).

2020hello · 25/01/2021 21:20

*was forced

DenisetheMenace · 25/01/2021 21:21

No. Idea repulses me. You’re trusting someone else with your life.

newtb · 25/01/2021 21:22

No drugs ever although at school 60s-70s we all knew there was a stall on the old Birkenhead market where you could get them. There was a talk at the youth club about David Wilkerson who wrote the Cross and the Switchblade which talks about his work with heroin addicts in New York. Reading that really put me off in about 68-69. At uni I was a science student with 1hr and Wednesday afternoons free so was either too knackered or studying.
Not smoked since a holiday in a methodist guest house on Jersey when I was 17. Never drunk so much either since then.
Don't even drink caffeine now, since I had gastro from too strong coffee when I was 24.
The occasional glass of wine or spirits - the bottle of Glenturret I bought in 2019 is over half-full.
Really boring in my old age. XH is an extremely unpleasant violent alcoholic.

ChasingRainbows19 · 25/01/2021 21:22

Drugs have never interested me. My mum and dad were 60s kids so my dad went to festivals and tried all kinds.
Smoking killed my grandma and mum, now my dad is suffering. So that’s never been for me either.

I don’t judge others for experimenting in their youth tbh each to their own. But I’ve seen the bad side through my work roles over the years too. However I had a great time with alcohol when I was younger and didn’t get hangovers..... and that’s not a perfect ‘drug’ either.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 25/01/2021 21:24

No, don't now and didn't when I was younger, just alcohol. Dp is the same.
We've been constantly surrounded by people taking drugs growing up, and not just the odd pill or line of coke, but we've never felt the need. Even now so many people we know take drugs. My eldest child's biological father (not that he had anything to do with him) just died of an overdose.
DP never did because of his upbringing. Basically the whole immediate and extended family take/took drugs. Both his brothers are junkies, and he's lost a lot of family to drugs.
Seen too much damage done to people through addiction. We are extremely boring on a day to day basis. Go months without a drink. I'm pregnant atm but dp has only drank once the entire pregnancy and he was done for 8pm 😂. We do love a night out/in with people though.

AudTheDeepAndCrispAndEven · 25/01/2021 21:25

Have never taken an illegal substance of any sort, not even cannabis. Do drink very occasionally and have smoked the odd cigarette as a yoof. I'm really boring.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 25/01/2021 21:27

Plenty over the years before I was old and sensible.
Cannabis, ecstasy, amphetamines, acid, MDMA, cocaine. Some of the best nights I've had have been drug fuelled!

ComtesseDeSpair · 25/01/2021 21:27

I take MDMA two or three times a month usually. Less so since March as fewer parties. Have done so for about a decade. I don’t see it as any different to having a few drinks at the weekend; and all the evidence actually points to it being healthier and safer provided it’s used carefully i.e. not mixed with other drugs or a lot of alcohol, not over-hydrating or dehydrating.

Have never really gotten into anything else. Take acid and mushrooms once a year or so at festivals. Never particularly found ket or coke a hugely pleasurable or interesting experience so don’t bother any more. Tried marijuana once as a teenager and it made me terribly terribly paranoid for several hours, haven’t touched it since.

britinnyc · 25/01/2021 21:28

The only drug I have done is weed. It is legal where I live so I take edibles sometimes. There are many varieties, I like the ones that make me relaxed and help me sleep good. I would not classify myself as high when I take them. A glass of wine had a bigger impact! I have seen no negatives from having it be legal here (California)

Thehop · 25/01/2021 21:29

Same as @HandyBendySandy

Robbybobtail · 25/01/2021 21:30

Cannabis, speed and ecstasy as a teen. So stupid. The stories on here scare me to death as I have teens too. You think you’re invincible when you’re young.

That’s so sad - what a waste.

capricorn12 · 25/01/2021 21:31

I'm 47 and if you had picked me up and shook me at any point in the early to mid 90's I would have rattled. They were the happiest days of my life and I would do it all again in a heartbeat given the chance (so would most of my friends). Since getting married and having kids I haven't really dabbled but never say never . Never much like cocaine though.

Mrsmadevans · 25/01/2021 21:32

No & l don't know anyone who does

RealHousewifesHouse · 25/01/2021 21:33

No. Never tried drugs except for red wine. I have no time for it having seen the havoc it wreaks.

SixesAndEights · 25/01/2021 21:33

Acid, mushrooms, weed, alcohol, nicotine when I was younger

Can't even have caffeine now!

Lostinspace23 · 25/01/2021 21:35

Drugs were ever-present when I grew up. It was hardly the ghetto - think very nice Home Counties commuter belt with London price houses. By the time I was 13 I’d smoked weed and done acid. Speed was around too. Dabbled here and there in my teens then really got into clubbing at university. Pills, mdma, ketamine etc. then on to coke living in London. All my friends were upper middle class and much more into it than I was. I never really had the cash to go too wild, being from a working class background and then having to work part time to fund my education when most of my friends were bankrolled by their parents. In all honesty, I loved the thrill and the vibe but now I’m older and a parent I wouldn’t touch anything, I hardly even drink. I shudder in horror at the thought of the damage I may have done to my body.

mummytolittledragons · 25/01/2021 21:36

No

JellyBabiesFan · 25/01/2021 21:37

Never had any inclination whatsoever to take pills or powder. I admit I never had the opportunity due to the groups I moved in, though even if I did I would never have been interested.

Was offered weed a few times and never fancied it.

Alcohol and caffeine are all that I have.

Icantrememebrtheartist · 25/01/2021 21:37

From 18-21 I was part of the rave scene. Many nights spent in warehouses, fields and some fantastic London clubs (realised just the other day that all the clubs I used to go to have been gone a number of years which makes me feel very old) Had many great nights with friends and everyone on mainly ecstasy but also LSD or speed. That was when I was 18-21!!

Now....the thought of doing drugs horrifies me! Honestly! I can’t imagine taking the risk and life seems so valuable why would you risk losing it?

Youth! Chasing excitement whilst believing you’re indestructible!

SixesAndEights · 25/01/2021 21:38

The attitude to drug taking in western culture strikes me as bizarre when the brits are a nation who love a drink. Alcohol’s up there with the most damaging/addictive drugs.

Exactly this! The reaction during the pandemic to public alcohol restrictions has been ridiculous, it's as if most of the country have some sort of drink problem.

Also those who say they have zero tolerance to drugs yet drink alcohol... LOL What??
