Inspired by the white bag thread, it just got me curious. I’m not a journo! Although, I suppose that’s what a journalist would say.. Grin

Have you / do you take drugs? What did you take and why did you?

I’ll be honest and go first, I occassinally use MDMA and I do use coke on nights. But I don’t have kids and I’d stop as soon as I was having them

No never.

Hangingover · 25/01/2021 21:06

Used to take pills at uni and coke at parties. Got addicted to benzos for about a year - that shits dangerous!

Sparrowfeeder · 25/01/2021 21:07

Only smoked weed as a teenager, nothing since. Never saw the point, my brain is pretty trippy anyway (adhd, it turns out). Also my old hippy parents used to bang on about taking lsd in their youth etc so I always thought drugs were kind of lame tbh! A single malt whisky, now you are talking....

tobee · 25/01/2021 21:08

No. Too old for the 90s scene. Still alcohol (mostly) in my generation. Plus don't trust the provenance, or myself.

Prescribed both morphine and Valium medically and can totally see the appeal though.

Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst · 25/01/2021 21:08

Nothing ever
I was educated well enough not to be that stupid!

sleepyhead1980 · 25/01/2021 21:08

No. Don't want to kill myself and also don't want to support the horrendous drug trafficking that goes on.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/01/2021 21:09

Life’s for living very much so. I just don’t need to be intoxicated to live it
There’s the stereotype if you don’t imbibe or do drugs you’re crushingly dull with heehaw creativity or oomph
I’d say in my experience and observation getting wasted and or drunk doesn’t necessarily render folk great gregarious intellectual company

poppet31 · 25/01/2021 21:09

No, never. My uncle was a heroin addict. Seeing what that does to a family is enough to make you run a mile from any drug.

changingmine · 25/01/2021 21:09

No journalist would start a thread like this so I know you're not a journo.

Drugs, not since teens. A man I knew who gave me drugs and boasted about drug use went onto have two very seriously disabled children. Drugs fuck things up. I wanted healthy children.

CovidPostingName · 25/01/2021 21:09

Nothing except alcohol. Never have either, not even a cigarette. I even measure my drinks at home with a proper measurer.

Crabbypaddy · 25/01/2021 21:09

When I was younger we had some wild weekends and I can’t deny that narcotics would most definitely be involved...I think back and still laugh at some of the good times we’ve had! Wouldn’t touch them now though, not now I have kids and have worked with people who’s lives have been ruined by them. Russian roulette with your life really

79andnotout · 25/01/2021 21:09

Yes, in my twenties (mostly pills). I did love a rave. Gave up drugs when I turned 30 and gave up booze when I turned 40. I'm guessing it's gone with the sugar when I turn 50 :(

userxx · 25/01/2021 21:11

Yep, I spent my youth clubbing. Best times of my life, but I'm glad that chapter is over and done with.

1FootInTheRave · 25/01/2021 21:11

Was rather wild in my younger days.

Hangingover · 25/01/2021 21:11

Actually tried ket and speed once but they were grubby. So is coke really. Pills/mdma is really bloody good though Grin nothing on earth feels like that.

Royalbloo · 25/01/2021 21:11

No. Not now.

I have tried some and they are "great", but the whole point of them is that you don't need to know how "great" you can feel or you'd do it forever.

For example, I'm pretty sure crack is amazing if you'd steal from people you love, ruin your life and sleep on the streets.

My view has always been that I don't need to know how great they are. Like mayonnaise - don't eat it, don't love it, don't get fat. Crack, don't take it, don't love it, don't die.

Solid theory.

Pops042020 · 25/01/2021 21:11

I'm late 20's and I don't know anybody who hasn't tried coke or weed, apart from my own family who wouldn't dare.
I have tried coke and weed neither really did much to me on any of the times I have tried them. I don't have an addictive personality at all though.
I now have a baby and don't smoke I'm tee total and wouldn't touch a drug at all ever again now but I know soo many people who have families that think it's normal to put the kids to bed and have a kitchen session that's still going on at 6am which I find disgusting!!

Quaagars · 25/01/2021 21:11

Truthfully?
Never have.
Never wanted to.
Never even been tempted to.
Even when friends were doing it in college, me fuck no, seeing them chew the shit out of their tongue with eyes darting forwards and backwards - why would I want to do that to myself?!

Royalbloo · 25/01/2021 21:12

Out of interest 79andnotout why did you stop drinking at 40?

PeggyHill · 25/01/2021 21:13

DH and I used to sometimes, but that was well before DC. I couldn't be arsed with it now, it's overrated.

Staffy1 · 25/01/2021 21:13

No. Shared a joint twice in my teens, but it smelt of horse crap and didn't have any effect (as far as I could tell).

BiBabbles · 25/01/2021 21:14

PoletoPole Is there a better term than recreationally? I agree it's not the best term, especially for situations you're describing. I heard it since growing up in the States to separate it from medicinal drug use - so my grandmother took diazepam medicinally, my mother took it recreationally. Self-medicate is also used, but I'm not sure on that either for this.

Goatinthegarden · 25/01/2021 21:14

I took quite a few drugs in my 20s; mushrooms, coke, MDMA, cannabis, various legal highs. I don’t have an addictive personality and always made sure I had reasonable breaks between each session.

I stopped taking drugs when I started teacher training at 26. Obviously can’t risk a criminal record, or being spotted by a parent, but I became more aware of the cost put on others of me taking drugs - trafficking, gangs etc. Also became a bit more risk averse to putting unknown substances in my body.

I don’t crave drugs, but I do miss them - just a little break from the daily monotony of life. I’d love some ecstasy... DH and I fantasise that we’ll have a big MDMA blow out once we’re old and retired (we don’t plan on having kids).

NerrSnerr · 25/01/2021 21:14

Not much. A bit of cannabis, smoking and cakes. Cakes made me absolutely bonkers so didn't do it much. I used to do poppers when you could buy them in some night clubs (no idea if you still can)

PotDaffodil · 25/01/2021 21:15

The attitude to drug taking in western culture strikes me as bizarre when the brits are a nation who love a drink. Alcohol’s up there with the most damaging/addictive drugs.

I wouldn't like to be one of the youngsters I've worked with who've got psychosis from smoking weed. I don't know the medical research, but clearly the same drug that can help with epileptic conditions can have a very powerful effect on the brain long-term. Alcohol is predictable, usually short-term and controllable - the British problem with it isn't on the whole shared by our European cousins.
