Inspired by the white bag thread, it just got me curious. I’m not a journo! Although, I suppose that’s what a journalist would say.. Grin

Have you / do you take drugs? What did you take and why did you?

I’ll be honest and go first, I occassinally use MDMA and I do use coke on nights. But I don’t have kids and I’d stop as soon as I was having them

@Waxonwaxoff0

I do find it strange that some people think that taking drugs like cocaine is seen as "a bit of fun" and but taking heroin is seen as disgusting.
Yes it does seem strange. Look down on one class A whilst taking another ...
ElectraBlue · 25/01/2021 20:28

Yes. Out of pure curiosity I wanted to experience taking drugs at least once. In the end tried MDMA and cannabis at a friend's flat. Someone I had known for a long time and who I knew would make the process as safe as possible. It was a really hilarious night and I don't regret doing it.

I simply did not want to go my grave without knowing what the fuss was about/what taking drugs would feel like.

rowmaccerd · 25/01/2021 20:29

Have tried pretty much everything apart from heroin.

Weed most days and coke about three times a week.

Less during lockdown as skint and supply has dried up.

Do doesn't but doesn't mind and the kids don't have clue

Crikeycroc · 25/01/2021 20:29

Yes, I’ve used recreational drugs regularly. I honestly don’t know anyone in my social circle who hasn’t so I find these threads full of people proclaiming they’ve never touched so much as a glass of sherry bizarre.

BrumBoo · 25/01/2021 20:30

Smoked weed a few times, but the last time made me feel like total shit. That's as 'illegal' as I went. I watched one of my siblings and their friends take everything they could get their hands on, especially coke every weekend like they were London bankers but without the wage or social life to back it up. We lived in a very small area, and the proportion of young people who had drug related deaths was unreal. Genuinely thought my sibling would be next, but they somehow pulled away from it. It was enough to put me off drugs for life.

I did drink too much in my early 20s though. A couple of blackouts and a dislocated thumb, I eventually learned my lesson. I still drink alcohol but I do know my limits. I had one 'blow out night a couple of years ago, and hated how rubbish I felt the next day. Really have no wish to ever have a hangover again, that's a young person's game. I live be '2 glasses of wine makes you feel fine, 3 or more has you on the floor' mentality. I'm such an old fart now Grin.

maddiemookins16mum · 25/01/2021 20:30

I smoked weed on a beach in Goa 25 years ago. It made me sick.

LizFlowers · 25/01/2021 20:30

I smoked weed when I was young for a while, nothing more than that.

carlaCox · 25/01/2021 20:31

I've never done either but it seems pretty obvious to me that sniffing something up your nose is not the same as jacking up.

Deelish75 · 25/01/2021 20:32

Smoked weed a few times but it always made me feel sick so stopped bothering. Even now 20+ yrs later I still feel sick when I can smell it.

Took a fair amount of E and speed in my 20’s whilst out clubbing but haven’t touched anything since a couple of years before having children.

Never tried cocaine - never appealed to me.

Now have a baileys hot chocolate on a Saturday night and the odd glass of wine from time to time.

BarryTheChopper · 25/01/2021 20:32

When I was at university and in my early to mid twenties I did a fair bit.

Weed, pills, speed, LSD, mushrooms, coke.

I haven’t touched anything for years now, it was all fun at the time but I lost interest. I do have the occasional pang but very rarely.

TollgateDebs · 25/01/2021 20:34

Never taken drugs, never smoked and don't drink. Drugs ruined my Brother's life, had an impact on all those around him, and ultimately led to his early and painful death and it all started with supposedly a safe puff of Cannabis. You take drugs, then you are part of the problem and the trade that destroys lives and communities.

About a decade of cannabis use from 16-mid 20's. Stopped when TTC, and once kids came along, I no longer have time to smoke (wouldn't with kids around) or energy to maintain connections with dealers. Outside of lockdown, if I ever have an overnight babysitter, and meet with friends who still smoke I would join in, so on some level I still use drugs, but there is literally years in between opportunities.

Itsokthanks · 25/01/2021 20:35

As a teenager I used to smoke weed, take acid and speed but was bored of it by early 20's. I don't even drink now.

Bence69 · 25/01/2021 20:35

I’ve had some of the best nights of my life on Ecstasy. I love a cheeky line or two of coke if I fancy it too. Life’s for living I say xx

IncyWincyGrownUp · 25/01/2021 20:35

No, never been interested really. Wasn’t a clubber or a raver, and didn’t hang with the relatively slower, easier-going weed crew.

Howmercurialislife · 25/01/2021 20:35

From 16 to 25 cannabis, acid, loads of speed, more ecstasy than I can count and big coke habit.

Had the best few years, had very well paid jobs in the city and loved it.

Stopped it all at 25 when I met DH and not done it since.

Catra · 25/01/2021 20:36

The 90s rave scene coincided with my late teens / early twenties and ecstasy was my drug of choice - I danced my socks off on it most weekends and had the time of my life. I also took acid, speed and coke to a lesser extent. I found they heightened my senses and helped me live in the moment, whereas alcohol would numb me and make me maudlin. I never really got the appeal of weed either, although it didn't stop me from partaking socially.

I'm a hedonist at heart and music is a huge part of my life. MDMA and parties/festivals went hand in hand for me right up until my late 30s when I became a mum. I didn't need drugs to feel confident or have a good time, they simply enhanced this.

These days the only drug I do is magic mushrooms, perhaps every 6 months with my husband on a child-free night. I was diagnosed with autism at the age of 42 which made so much sense and was an enormous relief for me. I've always had a brain that's worked overtime and completely relate to what a previous poster said about psychedelic drugs showing great promise in treating anxiety.

@rowmaccered taking coke 3 times a week is a habit. Not recreational at all.

I'd be nervous to have cocaine in the house while children were there too. Accidents happen everyday. Also, surely this must affect your sleep?

Unless you're lying about your usage to wind people up?

CatRamsey · 25/01/2021 20:38

Never. I'm only 25 but I honestly have no interest whatsoever. I do drink alcohol but very rarely on special occasions (although did drink a bit more when I was 18-20). I'm glad lots of people here have also said no, I often feel a bit lame saying I hate drugs, because other people around me have no issue with them. I guess I just need to own my choices.

whoamongstus · 25/01/2021 20:40

Coke, some MDMA very occasionally. Not often - I probably have a handful of big nights a year. I don't have kids, I don't think I'd carry on if I did. I do drink but very rarely.

I'm another one who's surprised by all the posters saying they don't know anyone who takes drugs etc etc. I move in reasonably naice circles and have a professional job and it's not unusual at all.

VetiverAndLavender · 25/01/2021 20:41

Never. Was taught that drugs were dangerous and simply never felt the desire. It's hard enough to stay healthy without adding unpredictable drugs to the mix.

Anystarinthesky · 25/01/2021 20:41

No, I've never tried drugs, or wanted too.

I've never smoked and don't drink either.

Topsyturveymam · 25/01/2021 20:41

In my 20’s...MDMA, speed, coke and weed.
I also took acid twice. Other than MDMA I didn’t really rate them.
I gave them up after a Friday night of partying where I started on speed and coke, then mdma for the club and weed to come down ....with vodka on top. Didn’t eat all weekend and had to miss work on the Monday as I was still in a mess. It made me take a long hard look at myself and my life. Suddenly it wasn’t fun anymore and I felt like a loser. So haven’t touched anything since. I don’t consider myself to have addictive personality though. A few of my friends weren’t so lucky.

All this was well before settling down and having kids. The thought of them doing what I did fills me with fear.
