Inspired by the white bag thread, it just got me curious. I’m not a journo! Although, I suppose that’s what a journalist would say.. Grin

Have you / do you take drugs? What did you take and why did you?

I’ll be honest and go first, I occassinally use MDMA and I do use coke on nights. But I don’t have kids and I’d stop as soon as I was having them

Weed (but only the odd time) and poppers in my late teens, would still do poppers now if I didn't get migraines, and I used to be quite a big drinker. Now I am even more sedate.

I do though cringe when I hear of adults in their 30s or later who are still smoking weed/doing coke or other drugs regularly it makes me uncomfortable.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/01/2021 20:15

I do find it strange that some people think that taking drugs like cocaine is seen as "a bit of fun" and but taking heroin is seen as disgusting.

MiddleClassMother · 25/01/2021 20:16

Never, kids or no kids.

LunaNorth · 25/01/2021 20:16

Never until I was 43.

Then had a few spliffs on a weekend in Amsterdam with now-DH.

Very enjoyable.

Nothing since.

DaphneduWarrior · 25/01/2021 20:17

I drank a LOT in my 20s / 30s. No problem having a night / weekend off, but I felt awful the next day. Almost completely teetotal now (I'm 45).

Had several lines of coke in my 20s and 30s - none of them had any effect on me Confused

Tried MDMA, which just made me feel like I'd had a couple of G&Ts, and smoked weed a fair bit for a year or two, which just used to make me fall asleep. I never really understood how other people got high.

Nowadays my drugs of choice are caffeine and sugar.

ddl1 · 25/01/2021 20:18

No (unless you count caffeine and a bit of alcohol). When I was 12 or 13, I knew someone a bit older who had become seriously mentally ill from taking LSD: he would do things like trying to get out of a car going at 60 mph, because his perception was totally messed up and he didn't realize that it was moving. That really scared me off ever taking drugs; also I suppose I'm a bit of a control freak about myself

joystir59 · 25/01/2021 20:19

No. Cannabis and speed when I was in my 20s and 30s. In my 60s now.

RosesAndHellebores · 25/01/2021 20:19

Nope. Had my first cigarette at 14 and unlike everyone else I enjoyed it. It meant by 18 I knew I was an addictive personality.

I enjoy wine very much but limit to two glasses a night. Because, you know I learnt early I was addictive.

DC are 22 and 26 and I was zero tolerance.

sage46 · 25/01/2021 20:20

Not since my early 20's (early fifties now) I smoked cannabis and found it overwhelming and didn't like it at all and wasn't attracted to the 'stoner' lifestyle I saw some friends having. Had a great laugh on Magic Mushroom and loved the buzz from 'speed', but hated the comedown. Stopped it all when i had my son . Still like a drink sometimes though but I never give the rest of it a thought.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 25/01/2021 20:21

Yep, best nights of my life on MDMA! Coke, weed, tried ket but it didn’t agree with me. And had the most incredible summer weekend with friends taking mushrooms and wild swimming.

I too get twinges of longing when I see wild nights out portrayed on film.

I’m far more aware of the negative human impact now (trafficking etc) but I’m also in favour of some legalisation. I agree that it’s another life experience and tbh would love to try more hallucinogenics. It’s fascinating that LSD is being used in micro doses to treat depressive disorders.

The attitude to drug taking in western culture strikes me as bizarre when the brits are a nation who love a drink. Alcohol’s up there with the most damaging/addictive drugs.

YepCuntyIsTaken · 25/01/2021 20:21

I've smoked Cannabis since I was about 16. I'm now in 50's and still like it. I like how it slows me down and makes me feel relaxed. I would love for it to be decriminalised.

Had cocaine a few times - all nighters. but I really don't like it and I don't like being around people taking it. Plus I would always get a sinus infection after taking it.

I've had lots of fun on MDMA (mainly raving/clubbing) but not for many years. I've also had mushrooms, & lsd and likened both but never made a regular habit of it. Again not for years.

Never tried heroin (expect once at a party when i was about 18 and someone passed me a laced joint. I was very ill). Never been interested in pills, ketamine or heroin at all.

I've had a few friends get into dreadful addiction with heroin. Really is a very miserable addiction.

I drink alcohol occasionally but I don't really like being drunk or around drunk people. When I was younger I drank a lot more that I do now.

MrsKoala · 25/01/2021 20:22

@MrsExpo

Absolutely nothing here .... I struggle to take paracetamol!!!

Enjoy a glass of wine now and then. Really can’t see the point of “recreational” drugs. Are they really that much fun?

Yes.

I have tried; weed/skunk, speed, E, MDMA, ketamine, acid, coke, benzos and jellies. Of those the ones I did most/regularly were speed, E and coke. I stopped doing any drugs regularly when I was 21 and then only a few times again up till 30. I didn’t have kids till I was 35 so I’d long stopped by then. But I enjoyed it a lot while it lasted.

BritWifeinUSA · 25/01/2021 20:23

I live in a state where marijuana is legal for recreational use. So I do enjoy an occasional edible.

Husband was a drug addict for many years. He did heroin, meth, cocaine, acid, anything he could get his hands on. He ended up getting hepatitis from shared needles and a prison sentence too. Hard drugs have no appeal to me. I’ve seen the horrible side of it way too much.

Pippapotomus · 25/01/2021 20:24

Yes. Late teens I was able to smoke a staggering amount of cannabis. I tried to cut down on cigarettes so would roll a joint of pure skunk and no tabacco, and smoke it on the way to school.

My friends were into extasy most weekends. I tried it a few times but found the come down absolutely awful.

I tried magic mushrooms once and it was wild. I spent all day on the underground going on different trains as I was trapped and couldn't find my way out of any stations.

I've tried cocaine. Fortunately funds wouldn't allow it to become a habit.

I often spot my old friends mentioned in the local paper having stolen meat from the Co op to fund a heroin habit. I use Cbd oil, I would prefer to smoke, but the following munchies would undo all of my slimming world plan.

Taylrse · 25/01/2021 20:24

I've actually never taken drugs or even smoked a cigarette! I don't feel like I'm missing out though

FanciedanewnameAnne · 25/01/2021 20:24

No, I don't feel the need.

Morgan12 · 25/01/2021 20:25

Yeah coke mostly. Tried E and didn't really like it.

fitflopqueen · 25/01/2021 20:25

Always been a non smoker so haven't been interested or taking any pills etc, but have been to the states and had legal CBD jellies whilst there, got a slight lift from them but wouldnt be bothered about trying again.
Occasional glass of wine and a beer or Gin & Tonic but tolerance seems to reduce massively as you get older so not worth the sleepless night and feeling tired next day.

HibernatingTill2030 · 25/01/2021 20:25

I did smoke a joint or two when I was 18 or 19. Did nothing for me.
Past 20+ years, nope.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 25/01/2021 20:26

Tried weed, speed, E (shows age), coke, mushrooms in late teens/early 20s, not much and not often. Quite a strong self-preservation streak.

Never smoked fags, basically teetotal now.

Know plenty of people who are still partial to a spot of coke and/or cannabis. One who cannot, consequently get off his arse and support his family due to years of misuse. TBH I think it's a bit cringe per se, and tbh just scummy to take recreational drugs once you are old enough to have an awareness of how this stuff is peddled.

CoronaIsWatching · 25/01/2021 20:26

When I was in my early 20s at uni and travelling, the odd spliff and took something in a club once that was terrifying, not touched them since. Well, apart from alcohol.

shas19 · 25/01/2021 20:26

Coke, ketamine, pills, weed and balloons. E joy them all tbh

BiBabbles · 25/01/2021 20:27

Recreationally, I've had a handful of alcoholic drinks between the ages 30-33. It was okay, nothing I ever really enjoyed so I stopped bothering testing that out.

And technically, when I was 14, my mother put a joint in my face and wouldn't let me go until I had a puff, though I consider that more self-defense that recreational, and some adults I grew up with found it funny to spike kids drinks so who knows there...

I've seen a lot of recreational drugs be taken, but they haven't really appealed other than tobacco, I get very odd cravings for it now and then even though I hate the smell and got headaches being around it as a kid. I've read that this happens sometimes to those raised around it with the thinking that either secondhand in enough quantities also reduces stress or seeing it reduce adults stress is enough to make an association. Very weird.

HibernatingTill2030 · 25/01/2021 20:27

That said, I was scared to try anything stronger. Addictions run in my family, and while I doubt I would have gotten addicted to speed or weed (which was mainly what people around me were doing) I didn't take the risk. Thank God.

MakeWorkYourNewFavourite · 25/01/2021 20:27

Weed, fags, booze, E, whizz, poppers, ketamin, temazapan, coke. More weed and booze than anything else. It took me 22 years to get off the fags. Starting that was a big mistake. I don't feel like the other drugs had any sort of detrimental effect on my life, education, career. I do remember times when I was far FAR too drunk though. I put my body through a lot of binge drinking.

Don't do any of that now... but I'd have a drink and a spilff if I could. I live in the middle of nowhere now. I daren't even have a drink as a single mother. I like to be alert and able to drive if I had to. I can live without all of it. I did enjoy the epidural when I gave birth and the Tramadol after my c-section. If I had no responsibilities, I'd probably abuse painkillers or smoke weed.
